A Plea For Civilized Discourse

While I am new to this site, I have been strongly conservative for many years.  Now that I am retired from urban law enforcement, I can freely express myself, without a fear of censure.  Yes everyone,  try being a conservative in an urban environment sometimes wrought with crime.  You know, where everyone points the finger at someone or something else when something goes wrong.

Now to the point.  I do not believe everyone who posts here is a true conservative.  If you were, you wouldn’t shout in your posts to be heard above one another.  If you were, you would not resort to profanity nor would you respond to it.  There is no way to confront ignorance, other than to rise above it, ignore it when identified, and try to change it by not participating in it.

As 2010 approaches, we are on the precipice of something quite astonishingly great, or if we fail to behave as true conservatives, something tremendously tragic.  The choice is in all of our hands, and keyboards.  Let us all resolve to have our discourse, and our disagreement in the ways we want our conservatism to be viewed, and that is as a role model to be admired and emulated.

And to those who need to resort to crude language and sometimes profanity….to those who seemingly have to shout your point above the others……….and to those who are unable to admit a mistake here and there………I will choose not to be one of you.  You all know of those posts I am referring to.  The reason I don’t even identify them here is I am withholding what they truly desire.  My attention.

Umm, huh?

Yeah, some of the folk who post here have a limited vocabulary with which to express their outrage. That does not mean they are not pissed, it means they need an edumacation.

Beyond that, if you hold conservative ideals, you don’t need to say it, it should be apparent. Your post, though, isn’t conservative – it seeks to limit the debate to those who speak in a polite, urbane fashion.

Is that really what you meant to do?

What I referred to is the profanity some have employed. Vigorous debate is the lifeblood and needs encouragement, not discouragement. My intention is to encourage spirited debate. I was merely referring to those who would rather insult than consult. I apologize if you took it the wrong way.

Your assignment: watch an episode of "Jersey Shore"

They can vote, y’know.

How do you propose to talk to them without obscenity or profanity? It is their mother tongue.

I am not condoning their abuse of the language, of of my ears (or eyes – web board and all that) but rather asking how, if we are to have a dialog with everybody, we do so without excluding them and without offending those who, as my elders put it, love the King’s English….

If you are truly free of potential censure...

why would you wish to limit free and open debate here. Politics is bloodsport for the not fain of heart. Than you for your service to the community, but keep your wishes for peace and harmony reserved for Earth Day.

“Not One Red Dime for the NRSC or NRCC till they stop trying to elect liberals”

You misunderstand

I will say I agree with you entirely excepting your cute snippet about Earth Day. I prefer consult to insult but I do not shrink from, nor do I wish to limit debate. Political discourse need not degrade itself with profane language was the only point I tried to make and profanity seems to be limited, but it is still annoying. Trust when I say I will never be accused of being fain of heart, but the word “bloodsport” may diminish the importance of our politic. I know you used the term to indicate its seriousness. I applaud your position as to the NRSC and NRCC which I have also adopted and have added the RPOF (FL)
