if I had to guess who it was that posted it, it would have been a moderator... or some random during all the "VP talk" as soon as Romney folded.

I'm suprised that Eric Cantor and Rob Portman are being vetted but no news about the same for Christopher Cox. My cousin got to know him about in So Cal 20 years ago and has been going on about him being picked as VP ever since. As much as I love the idea of Governor Sarah Palin as VP, I fear that she could be compared negatively to Biden (think the Bush Sr vs. Ferraro debate in '84). I do not believe the Biden choice prompts McCain to tap Romney. Too much baggage from the primaries and frankly Romney just does not sit well with a lot of social conservatives (Huckabee supporters). Plus the story line the Democrats would love to have stick of the two rich white guys out of touch and flip-flopping, etc..I beg of Senator McCain to step outside the proverbial box and give serious consideration to someone such as Ch. Chris Cox.

I do not recall any blogs in April here at RedState that were written about SEC Chairman Chris Cox. Now there could have been one written about a John Cox who was running for President. John Cox is an entirely different kettle of fish whose resume of elected or appointed positions in the US is non-existent.

Someone made this case back in April... I have to admit I hadn't heard of Cox but the article was so convincing then that I did my own research and have to say that being a HUGE supporter in the primary for Romney... I'd rather see Cox picked...

There's just not enough horse sense even in the republican base to understand why Cox is the perfect VP...

Given the choice between Cox/Romney for presidential nominee I'd have to support Cox.

I still am impressed with Romney, and I think his personality will contrast Biden so well that Biden will look like a rookie removing any "avenue/experience cred"(street cred just doesn't describe obama/biden) that Biden lends to Obama.

That said... looking to 2011 should the worst happen... I hope we don't have to see Nominee Mud Wrestling for a year between Huckster and Romney... I wish the conservative community would put the word out on Cox and push him onto the stage.

Neil

VP to "Mean Bob Dole", who was nobody's idea of a good guy to run against Clinton, but hey someone had to do it.

Monicagate had not happened yet and Newt and his merry men and women were busy with other stuff.

I saw his appearance on Hannity and Colmes recently. I wasn't too impressed with him.

And gee, what good was he as a VP nominee? Let me think.

He wasn't an inspired choice, but not a bad one.

The MSM simply decided to do a hatchet job on him, and they were very powerful then.

I guess in your universe, Ross Perot and Read My Lips never happened.

Sure, blame it on the culture warrior. Blame it all on him because he dared speak out against the radical feminism of the time.

Ross Perot cost Bush the election...but Perot got traction because of Bush's "Read my Lips" statement.

I remember it well.

The VPs, Dan Quayle, Al Gore, and Admiral Stockdale had nothing to do with the outcome of the 1992 election.

Don't you remember the 'Read My Lips' pledge that Bush the elder broke? Don't you remember a third party Ross Perot who took a lot of votes from the Rs and allowed Bill Clinton to win with under 50% in a 3-way race? I remember.

Jack Kemp and others did not care for Skippy ether. On top of that, Neil were you actually voting back then?

Thanks to Skippy, or rather Bush I's stubborn loyalty, we ended up with Bush loosing to Clinton. A strong attack dog VP in that race would have hit Clinton over the head time and time again over his morals, as it was, Skippy was too lightweight to do so.

And lost the next cycle to Clinton, which some would say was also due to Bush Sr. not dumping an ineffective, Deer in the headlights Dan "Skippy" Quayle.

Sorry, Skippy was a terrible candidate, a terrible VP and has disappeared from the landscape. If you're comparing Cox to him, you are making a mistake, or you weren't paying attention back in the late 80's early 90's.

Yikes....Siting Skippy and your guy in the same posting is not what I'd call a good thing.

Bush the elder made a huge mistake nominating Dan Quayle, who was destroyed, neigh gutted like a fish in the VP debate by Lloyd Bentsen.

All I can say is YIKES!

He looks good from what you've written.

I especially like that he's been at the forefront of enforcing SEC laws. This would take a huge talking point away from the dems. Fiscons will love him, and socons would too, based on his record.

I think you might be onto something here. He's a relative unknown, which means the dems would have to do a lot of digging. Like Adam, I doubt he's been vetted, so I don't know if there's enough time.

I'd be perfectly happy with Cox. I still like Romney's fundraising abilities since that's a real weakness of his, but as always I worry about the negatives Romney brings, even though I think the impact now would be far less than a couple of months ago.
