The Obama Rosetta Stone

What better way to see in to the mind of a madman then through his writings

Daniel Henninger of the Wall Street Journal brings us this insightful idea of understanding Obama. Of course we already know Obama, and this is just reinforcement, but more proof is always a better argument.

Let me introduce his third, a book that will touch everyone’s life: "A New Era of Responsibility: Renewing America’s Promise. The President’s Budget and Fiscal Preview" (Government Printing Office, 141 pages, $26; free on the Web). This is the U.S. budget for laymen, and it’s a must read. Turn immediately to page 11. There sits a chart called Figure 9. This is the Rosetta Stone to the presidential mind of Barack Obama. Memorize Figure 9, and you will never be confused.

The one on page 11 is attributed to "Piketty and Saez."

Either you know instantly what "Piketty and Saez" means, or you don’t. If you do, you spent the past two years working to get Barack Obama into the White House. If you don’t, their posse has a six-week head start on you.

Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez, French economists, are rock stars of the intellectual left. Their specialty is "earnings inequality" and "wealth concentration."

Thanks to Pej, we are now well aware of the Laffer Curve as it is an economic argument for lowering tax rates for everyone. Piketty-Saez is a moral argument for raising taxes on the rich.

It’s important to understand who Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez are. They are economists, of course but they are, in reviewing their positions, pure socialists.

Piketty has written such wonderful position papers titled: Social mobility and redistributive politics; Can fiscal redistribution undo skill-biased technical progress; Income inequality in the United States, 1913-1998; there’s more, but you get the picture.

Not to be left out Saez has also written many papers with the focus on income and wealth concentration (read stealing from the poor). But one stands out as even more devious; "The Elasticity of Taxable Income with Respect to Marginal Tax Rates: A Critical Review" with Joel Slemrod and Seth Giertz, preliminary draft February 2009, in preparation for the Journal of Economics Literature. Elasticity is about how much you can charge for a product before consumer demand drops so Saez is implying that the government should raise taxes as high as possible until there is essentially revolt.

These are the people our president has chosen to include into the budget as reinforcement of the reasoning to raise taxes.

The "top 1%" isn’t just going to pay for these policies. Many of them would assent to that. The rancorous language used to describe these taxpayers makes it clear that as a matter of public policy they will be made to "pay for" the fact of their wealth — no matter how many of them worked honestly and honorably to produce it. No Democratic president in 60 years has been this explicit.

The White House says its goal is simple "fairness." That may be, as they understand fairness. But Figure 9 makes it clear that for the top earners, there will be blood. This presidency is going to be an act of retribution. In the words of the third book from Mr. Obama, "it is our duty to change it."

Taxation for one, taxation for all. Even people I know who are pro-Obama are opening their eyes to the anti-success, anti-business Obama policies coming out now. And they are scared just like I am.

Someone needs to get out there with the message:

Many hands make light work. My grandma said that many, many, many times and there is a great deal of wisdom in it.

And the campaigns know it as well. If you have millions of people donating $10 or $50, you’ll have more money than if you have thousands people maxing out their contributions.

Proper grammar saves lives.

Let’s eat Grandma.

No one will care. Economics is boring.

Hence the lack of traction on this topic. Referencing Piketty and Saez is equivalent to using Marx or Hegel as a position qualifier. Heck, you can use this picture in place of Fig 9 and get the same result.

recommended. hard times can make economics less boring

The statement from French economist strikes me as equal to Karl Marx calling for the Permanent Revolution.

The fed reserve has free materials for kids. The cartoon books are very good.

Search Under:
Education Level: All Levels
Media: Comic Book

and when the results show order those. It’s not that in depth but they get an understanding of basic terms and theories behind things.

The currency site is interesting too:

Please no bashing me, these are good materials even if they come from the fed reserve, kids will at least understand things like inflation and scarcity.

A (now) funny caveat. My younger brother was only 13 months younger

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Saturday, March 14th at 6:34PM EST (link)

and as a consequence he would often grow faster than I and be taller most times and eventually. I have learned that when boys are born so close together that the younger is often bigger due to the still stretched womb of the mother.

As a consequence, in order to maintain control and power, i would have to work myself into a frenzy and scare him to death in order to beat him up as kid! He was also a much better boxer and fighter

but I never let him win!

As more people who have either been bamboozled by Obama or just plain oblivious become aware things suck, the tide will turn.

I was speaking with a State of CA business atty last week about the registration of my franchise in that state. She, an obvious democrat, was oblivious to what was going on with the economy. We discussed the problem with having “free money” right now to post a surety bond. On the follow-up call she voiced concern that her (State of CA managed) 401k was at 50% the value she thought it was.

She was certain Obama would fix this, but the seed of concern was planted. This is happening all over. I’ll have a post up tonite about this.

Where do people get this someone else will fix it mentality from?

I have several friends who are longterm bureaucrats in DC. They are just elated over Obama, but not because he’s a Dem but because he’s stated that taking care of them, expanding their opportunity and providing work place security.

If you have never had to “cover payroll” or take less pay because it’s been a slow week then knowing how the real world works is as foreign a concept as trying to decipher Mayan heiroglyphics. Advanced degree or long term employment does not make one intelligent.

I am reading Atlast Shrugged for the first time and it has enthralled me. Many people have said that we are approaching the moment when our atlast is gonna shrug and I propose we are a lot closer than anyone could possibly think. Many of the points of Directive 10-289 are already in place if not as law then as close to law as possible. For example, one of the points of the directive prevents businesses from relocating under penalty of jail. They did this because all the sucessful companies where moving to colorado where the government actually acted how it was supposed to act. Now already today we have tax policies in place that would make it very hard for a company to completely pull out of the US, but think about what would happen if say Microsoft decided to base its operations in some foreign country. There would be such public outrage and indignation at the action that it may as well be illegal and quite frankly if some large company does leave I am sure they wont be completely off shore before laws are being drafted to prevent further the fleeing of the sinking ship and to punish those who do leave.

I am a young person being only 24 years old but my reading of Rands epic has made me begin to think that while I was born here I may not die here, because unlike in her novel there is no Galt’s Gulch for the productive to flee to.

on the economy twice in the election. Once when he said, it doesn’t matter if lower taxes increase revenue to the gov’t. What matters is that it is “fair.”

The 2nd time was the Joe the plumber incident.

Now suddenly people are going to open their quarterly statements and “get it.”

Rahm saying not to waste a crisis may have it wrong. Didn’t Churchill say we as a people have a knack for snapping to attention when enemy attacks us directly? The attack on wealth is in full force, folks.
