The are supposed to be the top 25 movies according to the American Film Institute. If the PM was a movie buff and didn’t have the majority of the movies, it might be a thoughtful gift. Cheap but marginally thoughtful. But these films were not personal favorites of PM Gordon, or even Obama. Absolutely no thought went into this gift!
Why would you give a legally blind man a set of movies to watch? It is like giving CDs to someone who is deaf or a racing bike to someone confined to a wheelchair. To give a blind man DVDs that are the wrong region (PM Gordon would have to buy an expensive DVD player that reads different regions to even hear the DVDs!) is beyond tacky, classless and insulting! I don’t know that there is a word for how disrespectful and offensive the gift is. Obama would have been better off not giving Gordon anything than to give those DVDs.
But sadly, none of this is out of character for Obama. It is merely standard behavior for him.
