If the American people don't step in, then our enemies abroad will take that role in a most punitive manner, and they'll be hell to pay as a result (and quite possibly literally). History is replete with prosperous nations that abandon adulthood and are swept away, sometimes even in a single night (c.f. Daniel 5:30-31).
