at the writing from the context of today’s world. The need for strong, principled and proactive people is what the conservative movement is about. The fight against Socialism/Communism has to come from these types of individuals.

When I was writing this, the scene of his crossing the Delaware in horrible weather conditions came into my mind. So many times this valiant and courageous man stepped up to the task; he was fortified by his belief in God and all it conveyed to him.
You’re right, I see now how Hubbard left faith out. He is asking for a strong man, but IMO, man is strengthened by his faith in a Higher Power, God. Would we have individuals like that today.

If we do not turn the tide of this Socialism/Communism, we will be paying a very dear price for whatever beverage we drink. It will be bitter. Thank you for your input, I learned a lot from your writing on the essay as well.

When I read the “Message to Garcia” I immediately thought of those words. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it had been written in 1981 and not 1881! Whenever we sing that hymn I feel the call, and perhaps now more than ever, it is applicable to our cause. Certainly these times are sounding the alert to action, and RedState is helping many of us to respond.

Thank you again for your appreciation. There have been numerous days of discouraging news for our side, but I take heart being among strongly principled friends and do indeed feel strengthened by the power of God.

You placed things on a firm foundation with your Scriptural reference. In doing so, you put your finger precisely on what was wrong with Hubbard’s essay. Elbert Hubbard depended entirely on human effort. Good thing George Washington didn’t depend on just his own effort, but looked to a higher source of power, or we’d be spelling the word “check” cheque and taking tea breaks instead of coffee breaks.

I also greatly appreciate and applaud the ending to your diary. “Here I Am Lord” is a beautiful and wise hymn. It is a reminder that true agents of summum bonum (the greatest good) are those who are genuinely instruments in God’s hands, for He is the real power . . . omnipotent as a matter of fact. With God all things are possible. Thank you for reminding us of this.

As I have learned more about what happened to Robert Bork, and put it into context with understanding the Leftists today, I do want to know his take. It is probably not a very cheerful read, but it will be a realistic and honest one.
