Attacking Bobby Jindal

A good compendium of counterattack links is found here. But if that isn’t enough, we also have Warner Todd Huston explaining why Jindal is so important and why the other side feels so compelled to take him down.

One can also watch the 60 Minutes piece on the Governor to realize the significance of Bobby Jindal. His political opponents realize that whatever the effect of one speech, the Governor will be a force to be reckoned with for decades to come and that his rise represents a threat against the established Democratic (note the absence of a small “d”) order. Thus the desperate attacks, launched at a fever pitch, to try to take the Governor down. It’s not working, of course, but that may not necessarily stop the Governor’s political opponents; as far as they are concerned, facts only get in the way when it comes to smearing and sliming Republicans.

Though I am sure that he doesn’t like it, and while the wording of his post tries to keep up a smidgen of controversy about the matter, even Kevin Drum is forced to admit that there’s not that much there there when it comes to attempting to manufacture a Jindal scandal. I would be even less generous, but at least, Drum makes it clear that there pretty much is nothing to the manufactured scandal.

Too bad his is a lonely voice on the other side of the partisan divide. But then, that is what happens when the overwhelming majority of people on the other side of the partisan divide simply choose not to be honest concerning this issue.

Awwww...

progressivetokyo Monday, March 2nd at 2:28AM EST (link)

Poor Bobby Jindal is being criticized for his awful(in delivery) speech. I mean the guy sounded like he was talking to a third grade class!

If that is the best the Right can do, the Right is really in trouble.

I say a grass roots movement to run Rush for President!!! Let him lead you out of the wilderness and back into the light. I mean seriously, Regan was a former actor. Why not??

The issue wasn't the criticism RE: delivery

JoeG Monday, March 2nd at 2:39AM EST (link)

The issue brought up here is the manufactured scandal about “75 miles”.

Go ahead and dismiss Jindal on the one speech you’ve watched. He botched this one delivery, but watch any of his others and you’ll see that this isn’t his style.

“talking to third graders” Well, maybe some liberals did understand him after all.

Don't need advice from smarta@@ lefty punks. nt

This is the same cr*p you guys pulled with Palin

civil truth (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 4:19AM EST (link)

Jindal made no errors in what he said, and so your side manufactures a scandal out of thin air – and you complain about style and delivery, as though a less than perfect speech in 2008 somehow eternally disqualifies Jindal for federal office.

But of course when your guy do misstate and lie, then it’s just deny and complain about the politics of destruction.

But we know your gamebook, and we’re going to fight back. The American people in the end will decide – and neither of us can speak for them. But I can call bs on your tactics.

The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

Nice bait from a left wing troll

DaMav Monday, March 2nd at 4:52AM EST (link)

Somewhere in the fever swamps of the left the “run Limbaugh” bait was born. I know you guys think you are cute trolling conservative sites. We like Limbaugh but not in that way.

So...

progressivetokyo Monday, March 2nd at 6:58AM EST (link)

So because I dare to debate you I am a troll? Because I bring up counter arguements to yours I am a troll?

I am also a member of Daily Kos (Actually Markos and Eric Cantor have worked together on some bi-partisian things like net neutrality) and I decided to join over here and hear your point of view. See if I could engage in respectful debate (as we do with many of the social liberal/fiscal conservatives we have over there).

Would you rather have an echo chamber with no disenting opinions?? Or hear the counter arguments, and come up with a strong factual based argument, and who knows maybe convert some people to your side (thereby increasing your voter base).

Just a thought.

a couple of points

streiff (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 7:13AM EST (link)

1. since you’ve shown you don’t understand the issue it is pretty hard for you to debate.

2. We don’t have time to talk about your issues. Any time we spend listening to your jabbering takes away from talking about our issues.

3. This isn’t “net neutrality”, this is about an egregious slander of a good man by a bunch of pinheads

I was just heading off to bed.

Why don’t you disassemble and reassemble the alternator in your car. And I just noticed what a great word for you dis-ass-emble is.

Go waste their time over at Kos. You can get away with pretending to be either cute or smart there, they can’t tell the difference.

Wait a minute!!!

kyle8 (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 7:31AM EST (link)

you are trying to tell me that the Daily Kos has respectful debate with non left wingers!?!?!?!

So you attack the messenger and not the message?

progressivetokyo Monday, March 2nd at 3:12AM EST (link)

Did you think his speech was good? Quantify that.

And can you follow the rules?
Be respectful, or be banned. No Profanity
While I may have differing opinions on certain things, I am certainly not a “lefty punk” and if you think that is how you are going to be coming out of the electoral wilderness, by attacking anyone who dares question you, then the Right will be in the wilderness for a long long time.

Not to be a smart ass

scarlos (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 3:27AM EST (link)

but your original post was “attacking the messenger and not the message”, so i find it funny your accusing us of doing the same.

But as a measure of a “good” speech, I define it as how much information is conveyed in a manner that is understandable. Jindal’s speech had much more information in it than Obama’s bloviating, even if Obama’s made people feel warmer on the inside.

Socialism is Oligarchy in disguise

To that assertation..

progressivetokyo Monday, March 2nd at 3:34AM EST (link)

I completely disagree. By that measure John Kerry would have been a good speaker, as his speeches were always “wonky” and filled with info, yet bored people to death (I was not a Kerry supporter)

The measure of a good speech is this: Lots of good info delivered inspirationally so that it inspires people to act on that info, and believe it in their hearts, and in that measure Jindal failed.

I was not attacking Jindal as an individual, I was criticizing his delivery.

Rush on the other hand IS a good speaker. And he is a “true believer”. Great combo. So why not start a grass roots movement to draft him?

Limbaugh/Palin 2012!

Allow me to clarify

scarlos (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 4:02AM EST (link)

For ME a good speech is one that delivers information in an understandable way. I understand that this is not the case for a significant majority of Americans (hence why Obama is considered a good speaker).

Socialism is Oligarchy in disguise

That is certainly..

progressivetokyo Monday, March 2nd at 4:09AM EST (link)

Fair enough, but it you want to make the Republican party once again a viable National Party you will have to influence and inspire much more than the denizens of Red State. And I don’t think Jindal is the man to do it.

Why on Earth would we care what you think?

Achance (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 4:12AM EST (link)

I’m only answering at all so that you don’t delude yourself into thinking nobody had a reply for you. I wouldn’t condescent to reply subtantively; pearls before swine and all that, but it is sometimes fun to call you people names.

I’d rather have a candidate who knows what they’re talking about and has actually looked at the issues in a deeper way than what is necessary to read off a teleprompter, than someone whose lone qualification for high office is having a good writer and speaking coach.

But I’m done feeding this troll and I apologize for drawing it out this far.

"Assertation"?

Jeff Emanuel (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 7:30AM EST (link)

Are you one of those third graders Gov Jindal was supposedly directing his speech toward?

By the way, describing Kos in the way you do above shows you to be unconcerned — at very least — about accuracy. Ergo, I don’t have any more time to waste on you.

They say once you resort to attack, you have lost your argument. However I sincerely doubt you had a comprehend able argument to begin with.

No, punk, Anne Coulter was wrong; you don't talk to liberals.

I only recognize your existence because you’re here spreading your crap and I happen to be up because of the time zone difference. Normally, I wouldn’t piss on your head if your brain were on fire.

Heh. So, what you’re saying is that you guys lost the argument about GW Bush from day one.

Very instructive and you can leave now.

I'm not worried about his presentation

scarlos (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 3:23AM EST (link)

If I’ve learned anything from my 4 years of theater experience, it’s that with some practice anyone can go from nervous wreck to magnificent orator with some practice. He is very smart, and his ideas were solid, so with a little bit of work he’ll make a fine speaker.

On the issue of Lefties attacking him on such flimsy evidence, all I can say is that there is potential here for his net gain. It’s a good way to ward off future mudslinging if you can say “The last time the Left said i was lying, they were clutching at straws to try to discredit my actions during hurricane Katrina. It seems they hasn’t changed a bit”

They're like birds pooping on cars.

Uma Richie (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 8:49AM EST (link)

Pres. Bush just kept driving. He got pretty far, but his car is still covered in the stuff.

Gov. Palin got out of the car to clean the poop, giving other Republicans the chance to feed the birds Ex-Lax.

Now they are pooping on Gov. Jindal’s car.

All I can do is stand along the motorcade route and help throw (figurative) rocks at the birds every time a RSer calls to light a smear attempt.

If anyone can figure out a way to give them the Sullenberger treatment without destroying our own engines, please let us all know.

You know, I was starting to buy into all this "awful speech" stuff

liandro (Diary) Monday, March 2nd at 12:45PM EST (link)

until I finally went and watched Bobby’s speech on youtube. I then realized, again, what a waste of time it is for me to put much faith in media and web portrayals and opinions w/o actually reviewing the source material. While the speech wasn’t amazing in delivery and inspiration factor, it was solid in content. If it were possible to have a good-faith discussion with the other side, it would have been a MORE then ample speech.

I can only conclude that there IS an organized attack of sorts, and that it is certainly nothing close to a good-faith “discussion” or argument. As a Paul 08 supporter it is a familiar frustration for me.

I do think Bobby will study the speech, the reaction, and learn a few things, as well. He has, or should have, a long career ahead of him, and if this serves to toughen him, prepare him, prod him to be a better speaker, and better enable him to fend off attacks—good!
