Time For Roland Burris To Go

Link.

We’re really not going to entertain serious arguments that Burris was being honest in answering the questions asked of him concerning his dealings with Rod Blagojevich, right? I mean, everyone has the right to a defense but that doesn’t mean that all defenses are equally credible, does it?

Agree -- Burris should resign

jeburke242 (Diary) Wednesday, February 18th at 2:30AM EST (link)

If he doesn’t, the Illinois legislature should consider perjury charges and the Senate should beging weighing his expulsion.

Yah, sure

Considering that both Houses of the Illinois and US legislatures are currently Democrat, do you really expect a “better” result?

Why would he go voluntarily?

Adjoran (Diary) Wednesday, February 18th at 2:35AM EST (link)

He’s a Democrat, for crying out loud. William Jefferson was only finally reassigned from his senior committee seat after pressure, but the Party never walked away from him until he lost reelection.

Charles Rangel has cheated on taxes and never explained how he managed to get FOUR rent-controlled apartments for his campaign offices. Chris Dodd promised to provide the loan documents on his sweetheart Countrywide deals over 200 days ago – hear those crickets chirp?

John Murtha . . . a crook from the beginning who only avoided prosecution for corruption in ABSCAM by turning state’s evidence. The remarkable thing isn’t what is now coming out about him, but that it is coming out at all.

Alan B. Mollohan managed to increase his personal net worth from less than $500,000 to more than $4,000,000 in a few years, with his income outside Congress coming primarily from firms and organizations owned or sponsored by his campaign donors, and to which he had steered millions in earmarks. Nary a peep.

Now, with Fitzgerald still on the job it is possible Burris may yet be indicted in the Blago scandal before it’s all over and, since a trial would be hanging over his head when the seat is up in 2010, could face heavy pressure from within the Party to resign or at least not run again. BUT – that would come NOT because he is a lying crook, but because he might lose a seat for them.

Snakes have higher ethical standards than Democrats.

Not to claim Republicans are exemplars of purity by any stretch of imagination, of course – but witness the way the GOP threw the likes of Cunningham, Ney, and Stevens under the bus when evidence of their corruption came out. Faster than Obama ditched his Grandma and Jeremiah Wright and Susan (“I’m BAAAAACK!”) Rice.

Clinton showed Democrats how, now that their base has contracted to the most fervently loyal groups – like unions, leftists, blacks, and feminists, they can survive scandals which would have been, only a few years ago, career ending. By simply “toughing it out,” Democrats allow their media minions to move the story to “old news” and “move on” from it as the public tires of the gruesome details of their iniquities.

Hell, no!

HELL NO!!!!!!I BURRIS SHOULD STAY!

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Wednesday, February 18th at 4:22AM EST (link)

Pejman, not my Chuckie doll please!

What? You want Burris go while Obama stays at WH? I DISAGREE!

Stay away from my Burris! He’s a pester but he’s a constant reminder of CHICAGO CORRUPTION.

Almost every Democrat in Washington is corrupt anyway… with or without Burris.

So, Let him stay!

A better "constant reminder"

Justin_Case (Diary) Wednesday, February 18th at 5:52AM EST (link)

would be if a Republican wins the seat in a special election.

My money is on Mark Kirk, Illinois 10.

Now, now

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Wednesday, February 18th at 6:03AM EST (link)

This is the kind of alternative I want to see.

A Republican winning a new seat in the time of Obama? ….. and specially in Illinois?

Now, that’s a real reminder indeed!

Ok! I relent.

Kirk represents

Justin_Case (Diary) Wednesday, February 18th at 6:11AM EST (link)

the northeast part of the state, which includes part of Cook County.

While it is true that the GOP in Illinois is in a shambles, it has not been that long since a Republican held one of the senate seats. Add to the equation the latest disgrace to the Illinois image, in the form of yet another Democrat, and there can be seen a real possibility for someone like Kirk to carry the day.

I’m no fan of Roland Burris, but I don’t see any corrupt Illinois Republicans being any better.

I’m sorry … please name me an Illinois politician (and I know a few) of either Party that is squeaky clean.

href=”http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/clout_st/2009/02/speaker-madigan-turns-over-roland-burris-impeachment-testimony-to-prosecutors.html”>Says someone:

The speaker’s [Michael Madigan, D] move [turning over testimony transcripts] comes on the heels of comments by his daughter, Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan who Monday night said the local prosecutor in Springfield should look more closely into Burris’ testimony and other affidavits filed under oath. [emphasis added]

I would like to make a bigger scandal of it, but the fact is: Burris answered a question under testimony, then added to the same testimony in a voluntarily-submitted addendum.

I spent many years in Illinois, but I moved to Texas because it’s more honest (and doesn’t have income taxes). Y’all need to know that Burris ain’t so bad, and adherance to party politics is going to end up in a partisan rat-hole. Let the Democrats fuss with this .. they’ve a Lt (now) Governor, Sec State, AG, and politicians without number that that would just LOVE to be a US Senator. None (not even Jesse Jackson Jr.) could BUY the slot, because Blagojevich has to protect his derrierre from an [un-indicted] case of Federal prosecution.

I enjoy the conflict, but it’s not news … it’s politics … and much as I might want another Republican from Illinois, it’s not going to happen this year.

There are a number of clean politicians downstate.

Brian Hibbert (Diary) Wednesday, February 18th at 7:35AM EST (link)

My new IL-18 rep, Aaron Schock, has no serious corruption complaints though during the election, Dems claimed that he once notarized a document for his father when he shouldn’t have (yes that was the most serious thing they could find).

State Senators Dan Rutherford and Bill Brady are both squeaky clean and either would be a good choice to run for Burris’s Senate seat. I think Brady is eying the governor’s job instead so think Rutherford.

Ray LaHood had no taint during his time in congress, though he seems to have had a lobotomy as a prerequisite to his new job. He’s always been a bit of a squish, but no one has ever questioned his honesty.

And those are just some of the locals or name. There are others in local positions and I’m sure the other downstate areas also have clean politicians. The whole state isn’t Chicago.

It’s not like the new governor would replace him with somebody good. We would still be stuck with a Democrat and they are all greasy liars and snakes, so we may as well have one that is right out in the open than one that we have to research again.

Probably not going anywhere in the short term

mallcopsaysno Wednesday, February 18th at 11:24AM EST (link)

But I expect he’ll face a primary challenger in two years. And hopefully they’ll be a decent Rep. in the general.

Burris was a joke from the start.

It's Obama's doing and he should resign.

sickofitall Wednesday, February 18th at 1:30PM EST (link)

Obama and his staff put the pressure on Reid and the Senate Dems to stop complaining and accept the nomination. It’s obvious that Blago, Burris and the rest of the scum in the Illinois Democrat party have dirt on him and that he’s running scared. It’s just a shame that the weasel Pat Fitzgerald didn’t have the balls to indict him before he signed the execution order for America’s economy in the form of that hideous stimulus bill. Barack should and hopefully will be in prison before his first (stolen) term comes to an end.
