The Tom Daschle Affair has come to what should have been its expected end. My comments can be found in my latest New Ledger column, in which I invoke the Muse of Cosell. Excerpt:
Slowly but surely, the scales are falling from our eyes when it comes to taking the measure of the Obama Administration. We realize that its members are not ten feet tall. And along with that, we realize that its policies have not been handed down from Sinai. The Obama Administration’s missteps have reminded us that the President and his minions are human. Human beings make mistakes. Sometimes, those mistakes are found in the policies an Administration tries to implement. And that means that however charming the President, however tough and ruthless the staff and Cabinet around him, we ought to question those policies, argue against what we find to be wrong, and feel liberated to offer policy alternatives of our own.
When he got chosen to be the HHS Secretary and the White House’s health czar, Tom Daschle must have felt empowered to implement his vision of health care reform. By his withdrawal, and by what that withdrawal has signified about the Obama Administration, perhaps he has empowered us, after being on the political defensive for so long, to advance our views on what health care reform ought to look like.
Tom Daschle’s defenders argued that he was and is a great public servant. By his example, he may have accidentally proven them right.

He's Daschled again?!
Kudzu (Diary) Wednesday, February 4th at 7:12AM EST (link)But I thought PBHO stood behind his choice of Tom Turbo Tax II Daschle? The undercarriage of that bus he’s driving must be getting crowded.
So now that Dashcle has been Daschled again can we work on Reid?

Competence Anyone?
VanishingNYRep (Diary) Wednesday, February 4th at 8:46AM EST (link)For the last 8 years and even more intensely since Hurricane Katrina, the Dem-libs and their propoganda arm known as the mainstream media and Hollywood, have yelled that the Bush Administration is incompetent. Even the irrelevant, less popular and unfunny Steve Martin made a comment on SNL last week that he couldn’t beleive we had a competent President after 8 years.
Well let’s count this new administration’s record so far:
One nominee withdrawn because of a federal criminal investigation
Two nominees withdrawn because of failure to pay taxes
One nominee confirmed to enforece the tax laws that he violated
One nominee totally ensnared and conflicted with the group she will be regulating. Length of term of office doubtful
One nominee to conduct foreign affairs while her husband takes millions from the nations she will be negotiation with. Length of term of office doubtful.
One nominee who voated to abolish the department he will be in charge of and who is diametrically opposed to the Adm’s economic plan.
One major piece of legislation loaded with pork that is losing more popular support everyday as the public learns what is in it.
And they say Bush was incompetent and Obama is competent? Don’t make me laugh!
Projection
MikeO Wednesday, February 4th at 10:00AM EST (link)“Projection” is one pop-psychology term that applies pretty well to the left.
They called President Bush stupid and incompetent because they know themselves and their celebrity candidates to be stupid and incompetent.
They call us racists because they know their power flows from the balkanization byproduct of the systemic racism they impose.
They call us greedy and corrupt because their venality knows no bounds.
They accuse us of voter intimidation because they openly cheat at elections.
They call us liars because they haven’t even a passing familiarity with the truth.
They say we are mean-spirited because we do not endorse and support the bread-and-circuses programs that they know perpetuate and enlarge an underclass that reliably votes left.
They call us warmongers because their unworkable kumbaya fantasies guarantee conflict and large-scale suffering in the world.
They call us evil because their version of the law protects, promotes, and funds with our involuntary taxes the slaughter of innocent babies in their mothers’ wombs–and outside their mothers’ wombs, in the case of a particular state senator who was recently elevated to POTUS.
And, should they ever achieve their goals of suppressing the individual in favor of the collective, they, like their ideological forbears, Pol Pot, Che, Mao, Stalin, and Hitler, will deal with us, their enemies, through re-education, mass executions, intentional starvation, GULAGs, concentration camps, and genocide. They do this because they know, deep down in that cavity where their hearts would be if they were human, that they themselves are irredeemable animals who need to be wiped from the face of the earth.

Time to find a new “ethical” CEO
The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.
