My Faith In The Republic Is Strengthened

To wit:

Caroline Kennedy’s second act as a Senate hopeful didn’t get much better reviews from New York’s press than her first.

A New York Daily News columnist said “the wheels of the bandwagon are coming off.” New York Post State Editor Fred Dicker already put her on his list of 2008 losers. And The New York Times said “she seemed less like a candidate than an idea of one: eloquent but vague, largely undefined and seemingly determined to remain that way.”

Last Friday after weeks of silence, Kennedy agreed to sit down for interviews with The Associated Press and New York City cable TV’s NY1. Over the weekend, she scheduled another round of interviews with other news organizations from The New York Times to the Buffalo News. The New York Daily News noted she frequently used the phrase “you know” and “ums” during the interview, which was skewered in political blogs Monday.

“There has been some very rough comments,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College poll, following the series of interviews she provided over the weekend. “I have been surprised,” he said. “The welcome mat has not been out from everybody.”

Don't be so sure

Warner Todd Huston (Diary) Wednesday, December 31st at 2:27AM EST (link)

Don’t be so sure… I give you the voters in Cook County (Chicago), Illinois as evidence that things are not in good shape.

Be sure and Visit my Home blog Publius’ Forum. It’s what’s happening NOW!

re we really sure that Cook County IS still part of the Republic, Warner?

Since they don’t seem to follow most of the rules that the rest of the republic does… hmmm…guess you can Minnesota to that, too.

The NYT describes this as eloquence?

You know, I think, really, um, this is sort of a unique moment, both in our, you know, in our country’s history and in, you know, my own life, and, um, you know, we are facing, you know, unbelievable challenges.

Why does that not surprise me?

“I have been surprised,” he said. “The welcome mat has not been out from everybody.”

He’s surprised that everyone didn’t roll out the welcome mat for his queen?

I can understand his frustration—-those unwashed colonials can be so unpredictable…not to mention downright disrespectful!

These are the people who gather at the cocktail parties in the silk stocking district of Manhattan and look down their nose at all of the rest of us.

That believe we are inferior to them. They are morons propped up by their names and their money.

What A Disgrace

What chutzpah for this woman to even think all she had to do was convey her interest and the name Kennedy would take her on her magic carpet ride into the Senate. What is it, about this family, that gives them the sense that because a father and an uncle were taken long before their time, every offspring is assumed to be of equal competence. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg chose to remain in the background her entire life; I’ve maybe heard her speak once or twice. She’s ignored her party’s candidates until The One appeared; she’s barely shown anything to the public except to present the Profiles in Courage Awards; her family’s wealth is a secret, we have no clear sense how she accumulate approximately $100 million dollars; no one can name her three children, if asked; and we’ll never be privy to her tax returns as it’s none of our busiess. Well, with any luck, NYers have awakened; they see this for what it is, a Kennedy entitlement gone awry, and ensure their accidental governor gets the message – NO!!!!!! When you sit back and assess the arrogance of this family, bolstered by the fawning bestowed upon all of them because of a name, you realize how dumb we, as an electorate, have become.

Uhh uhh uhh umm uhh umm

didn’t hurt Obama all through his campaign, and his name wasn’t Kennedy. Maybe the Libs now think that’s a sign of thinking before you speak.

For a Kennedy, she's pretty well qualified.

After all, she hasn’t driven a car off a bridge while drunk and killed someone or smashed a car while on a self-prescribed sleeping pill/booze cocktail in D.C., or have overt connections to the mob, or…nevermind

And I’ve been surprised a LOT lately when it comes to politics.

“…she seemed less like a candidate than an idea of one: eloquent but vague, largely undefined and seemingly determined to remain that way.”

Didn’t our country just elect such as person president?

Is not NY the land of the carpet-bagger?

This:

describes Obama well.

Precisely the quote I was referring to [nt]

Seems like they know they can only sneak one like this by us per election cycle.
It’s really funny seeing the media scramble to try to regain some credibility.

This is a joke!

The idea of appointing her was ridiculous. She has no credentials or experience and thinks that she answers to no one.
Democratic politicians are wisely trying to preserve the Kennedy dynasty. It is still a very popular and somewhat powerful brand in politics. However they did a bad job executing it. As Bob Beckel recently said, they should have appointed her quickly in the dead of night. Sure there would be some initial outrage, but it would be dominated in the media (and public conciseness) by Blago and the economy until Obama took office, and then it would fade out of the public eye entirely.

I don’t think she can get it any more. Public support, which was never strong [1], must have dropped due to her now well publicized lack of credentials and her poor performance with the media. In fact “Mayor Bloomberg’s top political aide is pulling back on his lobbying campaign to propel Caroline Kennedy into the U.S. Senate because ‘it wasn’t working,’ according to sources” [2]. I don’t know why the MSM has suddenly decided they don’t like a Kennedy, but it looks like they have dealt her some deadly blows.
