Jim Powell points out what we should already know; an Obamaian stimulus package will do nothing to give the economy an actual shot in the arm and that across-the-board tax cuts will do wonders by contrast. Of course, dollars to donuts says that this idea will get no attention from the incoming Obama Administration and/or Democrats in Congress, thus ensuring that we will waste hundreds of billions of dollars for little to no effect on the economy whatsoever.

The economy’s in a funk. He thinks he has an electoral mandate. He’s going to make sure the money gets into the appropriate hands, the po’ folks, Jesse, Acorn…. Mostly Acorn though.
He won’t have to tweak the Constitution one bit for this one, yet, and he’s probably thinking that he dares the white honkey Republicans to try to stop him.
If you thought Chris Dodd (D-Ct) was brazen by writing Acorn into thirty per cent of the proceeds of the bank bail out bill, watch what this arrogant seasucker tries to pull.

The ghost of McCain...
birdmojo (Diary) Saturday, December 27th at 10:06AM EST (link)Given that the Republican Nominee suspended his campaign to support the original $700B bailout, the Republican Party lost an inch or two of moral high ground when it comes to complaining about hundreds of billions of dollars being wasted.
McCain’s defenders argued that those opposed to McCain (AND OUR PRESIDENT!) couldn’t prove that the bailout didn’t help… so I rather expect to see the argument given that you can’t *PROVE* that Obama’s stimulus won’t help. And, of course, when it doesn’t help, you won’t be able to *PROVE* that it wouldn’t have been a lot worse without Obama’s package.
For their own sake, I hope that the Republicans start polling the whole “Conservativism” thing again… this time with more questions on the poll than just social issues and national security. I think they’ll find that “Conservativism” polls better than “if you don’t like them, there’s always us!”
All that to say: Keep fighting the good fight, Pej. If the Republicans had more like you, the House/Senate/Governor’s Mansions would have more Conservatives… which, after a political generation or two turns into more Conservatives in the White House which means more Conservative judicial appointments which means more Conservative Supreme Court appointments. When vision is lost of what it means to be “Conservative”, one may think that “Republican” is close enough for jazz. The last 8 years have taught what “close enough for jazz” really provides.
