Way To Go, Andrew

Andrew Sullivan is livid. He is livid because there is a possibility–perhaps even a strong one–that John Brennan could become the new Director of Central Intelligence. Sullivan objects to this because he thinks that Brennan bought into “politicized” intelligence in the run-up to the war in Iraq and that Brennan may have been involved in war crimes. And of course, in situations like this one, it is entirely to be expected that Sullivan would lapse into pretentiousness:

The least we know is that Brennan is ambivalent about this. Ambivalence on this matter is unacceptable. We haven’t fought for decency and reform and a return to American values for so long to be turned back now. We didn’t work our butts off to elect Obama only to get Bush another four years at CIA. If Brennan emerges as the pick, those of us against the continuation of war crimes and the prosecution of war criminals will have to oppose him strenuously in the nomination process. We will, in fact, have to go to war with Obama before he even takes office.

And if Obama doubts our seriousness, I have three words for him. Yes we can.

Oh, good grief. I really haven’t done that much work into Brennan’s background and to be sure, if Brennan authorized torture, that would not sit well with me. But raise your hands if you saw it coming that Sullivan would eventually turn on the President-to-be he supported so rapturously. This should come as no surprise; Sullivan turned on Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, after all. Obama is only the latest to disappoint him.

Speaking of disappointments, Obama’s choice for Attorney General should likely strike Sullivan as objectionable too, eh?

Of course, I’d say that there is at least a 50-50 chance that Sullivan goes back to thinking that the identity of Trig Palin’s mother is the most pressing public policy issue out there. After all, it isn’t like Sullivan can keep an important thought in his head for too long.

Pick the day that Andrew Sullivan finally turns against the Obama administration.

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?

Why who knew that this was going to be so much fun...

By then it’ll be clear that DoMA’s repeal is well and truly off of the table.

OK, so those of us who saw Obama as a Marxist and opposed his election were racists, but those who see Obama as not Maxist enough and oppose his presidency are… well, WHAT, exactly?

Obama was The One in 2008.
He’ll be a BIGGER one in 2012.

Ooooh! Sullivan's gonna get maaad!!!

Pardon my being so naive; I understand that I am surrounded by those who know a great deal more on this matter than myself. I am not a proponent for overstepping the bounds of the rule of law on torture; albeit I have not read the law at length. The unequivocal security that we possess in our country is afforded us by the men and women that perform tasks that most of us do not wish to know anything about. Actions such as interrogations were always done behind closed doors, out of public the eye to prevent people from seeing the horrors of war or the prevention thereof. “What is the definition of torture?” Without looking at a dictionary, can anyone put it into their own words as to what the true definition actually is? Mine would be – A form or method of obtaining information that, if not learned, would prohibit the protection of the Liberty and Freedoms of the citizens within a country whose security is threatened by a hostile nation or organization, or groups thereof, that seek to destroy, or devour said security of targeted nation.
Andrew Sullivan is saying that he wants to further embolden our enemies by placing someone as director of the CIA that may not do what may become necessary to obtain the information required to protect our country because some public poll doesn’t approve of it. The images that we saw on the news about the torture from Abu Garabe was, I would think, outside the bounds of law. I do not think that this served to do little more than to amuse the soldiers seen in the pictures, and for such acts there should be legal action taken against the torturer. So the question becomes – Are we safer with someone such as Brennan, that I’m sure our enemies know well, or someone such as Michael Moore, which I’m sure our enemies would approve of, as Director of the CIA?

What about Powell?

He is mentioned prominently as a potential cabinet pick and he DELIVERED the supposed faulty intelligence data.

If we would call it torture if applied to one of our soldiers, it’s probably torture.

If, when it was applied to our soldiers in the past, it was called torture, it’s probably torture.

P.S.: “Look at me, look at me! Dammit, someone look at me! I’m a conservative! A true conservative! Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin…baby…baby..baby….Look at me!”

The strangest aspect of this blog is that someone would quote Sullivan seriously on anything any longer. I understand his books on conservatism can be purchased at any liquidator for a buck or less now.
