The Failed Bailout Bill

We have now seen that the American public and its elected Representatives in Congress are against socializing loss in the business community. Despite all of the artificial spin that this bill needed Republican votes to pass, it could have passed if a mere 10 Democrats changed their votes. Instead, nearly 100 decided to vote down the bailout.

It says something about the weakness of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker that she could not whip her members in line to support a bill that expands government and socializes a significant portion of the economy. I would have thought that this was a Democratic dream come true. And it was. And yet, Pelosi did not have the muscle to get the votes passed.

If the House leadership really wants to get this bill passed, they could steal a page from the playbook of former House Speaker Jim Wright, adjourn for the day, reconvene and call a new legislative day. Then they could try to pass the bill again and twist arms until it is done.

Dollars to donuts says, however, that this is not going to happen. Instead, House Democrats will try to blame Republicans for this bill failing when in fact, House Democrats have the majority and could pass the bill with a mere switch of 10 votes.

If House Democrats can’t govern, they should get out of the way and let House Republicans do it. Nancy Pelosi and her caucus just can’t do the job.

Let the broke go broke....

Best vote of the 110th so far IMO.

We all know what's going to happen now

Shaggy_Dog (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 2:19PM EST (link)

MSM is going to tag this on the House Repubs and say that John McCain failed to deliver with his leadership.

What a depressing day. President Barack H. Obama. Get used to the sound of that.

94 House Democrats Said No

Jeffrey Malbis (malbis) (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 2:31PM EST (link)

The important point to continue talking about here is that 94 House Democrats voted against Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.

94 House Democrat members felt that they could not survive politically if they voted for a wildly unpopular Bill. They believed that a vote for the Bailout would probably end their political careers as voters in their home districts would turn them out of office.

So…this was a failure by Republicans? Nice spin, Nancy.

This is just one more example of how Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama all represent a “throw lots of money at a problem” mentality that doesn’t sit well with the average voter.

Let's be honest. This vote represents

asleep06 (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 2:31PM EST (link)

the total loss of confidence the American people have in the federal government.

McCain was a fool not to oppose this bailout. With that decision, he deserves to lose this election as much as Obama never deserved to win it.

How unfortunate for the US that McCain had to side with the Bush administration and Democratic Congressional leaders instead of picking this time to be a Maverick.

Small is beautiful.

Good luck with that

Shaggy_Dog (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 2:48PM EST (link)

Here’s the MSM spin:

The bailout plan was announced by the Bush administration last week. In the end, Republican House members voted against it by a more than 2-to-1 margin. A majority of Democrats voted in favor.

The narrative is written. Game over.

94 Dems vote AGAINST the bill

Fernman Monday, September 29th at 5:33PM EST (link)

How can anyone say that McCain failed to deliver the Republicans to pass this bill?
If anything McCain made it so the pitiful Democrats only had to come up with 11 or 10 Dems out of the 94 Dems that voted against it. If Nancy Pelosi cannot come up with 11 Democratic congressmen when she has the majority, she is an ineffective leader. End of story.

Why are Senate Republicans scared of Obama?

Pelosi could not whip her members in line

After listening to her venom I could easily picture Komrade Pelosi wielding a whip.

Republicans to blame

olsmithie (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 5:49PM EST (link)

Please entertain the thought that failing to pass the bill was Komrade Pelosi’s intent from the beginning.

She has absolute assurance that the LibMedia will paint anyone else except the Demoncrats to blame.

Like this AG firing investigations, this may be one more “October Surprise” to sway the electorate.

You may well be right.

Please entertain the thought that failing to pass the bill was Komrade Pelosi’s intent from the beginning.

She seemed to be doing her best to kill the bill. As you say, the SCUM are giving her cover.

Nothing makes sense anymore. How can BO even be viable as a candidate, let alone win? Yet he is, and may do so.

(My apologies if this posts twice. I have no idea what its status is.)

The only reason the bai out failed is because

of what or what wasn’t in the bill. Plus the heat of the american people that are against this bail out.

It was a fantastic opportunity for him.

Flagstaff (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 6:16PM EST (link)

I think it would have been win-win for him, considering how unpopular the bill was.

Why is nobody talking about OTHER SOLUTIONS?

Actually, John Fund on the Glenn Beck Show is talking about it right now, along with Stephen Moore of the WSJ.

MrSandman (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 6:26PM EST (link)

It didn’t get passed.

That’s a good thing.

If you are a true free marketer you should know that.

“Americans can no longer trust the economic information they are getting from this Administration.”

— Republican Senator Jim DeMint

That's a good thing.

olsmithie (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 6:34PM EST (link)

No one in this administration has ever heard of Friedman, Reagan or Ramsey.

The next few weeks will be tough without this bill.

The next few decades will be tough with this bill.

(BTW noticed your quote.

Where can we find some more Jim DeMints?)

Sad To Be Republican Today

dld1717 (Diary) Monday, September 29th at 6:52PM EST (link)

I feel sick in my stomach that Republicans could care less about all those suffering and just look at DOW today as proof this country is headed for a dark period

Having the mentality people deserve this is disgusting

Agreed
