I agree that parents should have the choice..what I worry about though is the uneducated parent….I taught in the Chicago Public School System for 4 years…in the roughest of neighborhoods….the children were not the problem, it was the parents…the best kids, the best teachers, the best schools….will not mean anything if that child is spending 18 hrs a day without any close parental supervision…

very funny clip….

Of course the parents are the problem.

If they had any consideration, they would have got their kids out of government schools long ago.

About the time government applied for the job of Daddy, it was appointed Nanny as well.

As the skit’s DES-type spluttered, of course HIS parents could make good choices, but you can’t expect ORDINARY parents to do so. Perhaps we should ask Sarah Palin about her experiences on and with the PTA and school board.

The parents.

I agree that lack of parental supervision is a root problem, but what is the solution? The government cannot make parents care, and the government ought not raise the children.

Perhaps a bit more hand-holding can be offered to those parents who are not involved. You know, a kind of guidance councilor to help parents decide, but the responsibility ought to be laid at their feet.

School choice is vital for a strong school system, as you know. Capitalism has a way of weeding out the weak. Let schools compete for students, and place the parents in the seat of responsibility.

Some will take the bull by the horns, some will rise to that challenge with help, and there will be some who couldn’t care less. But that is human nature and fate.

There will always be bad parents no matter what the system. But at least give good parents the option and means to succeed.

…But, in any case, we home school our kids. So, you know… there y’go.
