There Are Days That I Wish The Internet Had Never Been Invented

Matters are quite simple:

  1. The fact that Sarah Palin’s daughter is pregnant and will carry the baby to term while marrying the soon-to-be father is the business of no one but the Palin family.
  2. The bottom-feeding that is going on in various portions of the Blogosphere concerning this story is nothing short of appalling–which thankfully, some people are beginning to recognize:

Some conservative bloggers were dismissive of the way the rumors spread. On Townhall.com, Amanda Carpenter wrote that the Daily Kos contributor was “disgustingly inspecting Bristol’s midriff with all the fervor of L.A. paparazzi examining J-Lo’s or Jennifer Aniston’s washboard stomachs for evidence of a ‘bump.’ “

Glenn Reynolds, a University of Tennessee law professor who writes the conservative blog Instapundit, refused to link to the Kos posting. “I certainly wouldn’t have gone with this,” Reynolds says. “It just seemed so ridiculous. I don’t see how this story adds up to a vindication of the Kos diarist.”

But blogger Andrew Sullivan, a right-leaning former New Republic editor who supports Barack Obama, pushed the story about the baby, who was born with Down syndrome. Citing unresolved questions and the campaign’s refusal to release the medical records involved, he writes: “The circumstantial evidence for weirdness around this pregnancy is so great that legitimate questions arise — questions anyone with common sense would ask. . . . After all, this baby was a centerpiece of the public case for Palin made by the Republicans.”

Karl Rove, the former Bush White House adviser, says the McCain camp had planned to publicize Bristol Palin’s pregnancy all along. “They have to. . . . By election day she’ll be seven months pregnant,” Rove says. With Hurricane Gustav dominating the news, he adds, Monday “was a reasonably good day to do it.”

The controversy erupted as a debate was taking shape over whether some media criticism of Palin’s limited government experience has been sexist. Liberal radio host Ed Schultz was telling listeners Monday that Palin was an “empty pantsuit” who had set off a “bimbo alert.” Shortly afterward, the pregnancy statement was released and, without missing a beat, Schultz said her daughter’s situation was relevant because the governor is a champion of moral values.

But a liberal reader posting on Salon under the name Redstocking Grandma denounced the pregnancy allegations: “This is just creepy; it feels stalkerish.” What some Democratic supporters were doing, she said, is “revolting.”

Particularly disappointing is Sullivan’s performance. A blogger who once had bravely and eloquently written about some of the most important and pressing issues in our national and international political life, he is now reduced to incessant speculation about whether little Trig Palin really is Sarah Palin’s baby, or whether Governor Palin faked the pregnancy to cover up for the pregnancy of one of her daughters.

I know that passions get excited during the course of a Presidential campaign. But this is as absurd as it is disgusting. There is no reason and no evidence to doubt the identity of Trig Palin’s mother and yet, people like Sullivan are attracted to the story like flies are attracted to . . . well, you know. By all rights, people like Sullivan should have no credibility left after this sordid business. Whatever doubts one might have about Sarah Palin’s candidacy, it hardly justifies or excuses this kind of behavior.

Don't Like the Internet?

Then blame Al Gore.

The Internet

RedFox84 Wednesday, September 3rd at 1:21AM EST (link)

Is the reason we have the ability to combat these smears and accusations. If this was the old days, the MSM would push this story and not a peep of dissent would be effectively communicated across the nation.

This is all just great....

Because it shows just how desparate and pathetic the left has become.

Just wait for Palin’s speech tomorrow. She’s going to hit it out of the park.

Fred Thompson and Lieberman were great tonight.

Thursday will be THE day.

Overplayed

Jonbontx Wednesday, September 3rd at 1:53AM EST (link)

Maybe it’s just me, but I have a feeling that the MSM and Dems are going to overplay this and end up turning more people off to them in the process.

For some disgusting ghoulishness...

Lefties attack Palin’s family

Here’s one example:

Kudos to Dr. Laura. I can’t stand her show but I’m happy she’s taken a solid position on this point. But there needs to be more conservatives than Dr. Laura and Gay Gary calling into question the efficacy of nominating the parent of a lascivious slut. Absent that this nomination will proceed full steam. Republicans actually interested in what’s best for the party – not what’s best for the McCain candidacy – will be well served to start raising a rucous and raising it loudly. (I stopped caring about the well-being of that party 3 years ago but I know most conservatives have not.)

Truly disgusting these leftist pigs. I like how they make assumption about Palin’s daughter. Nobody but them knows the truth, which means that it’s NONE OF OUR FUCKING BUSINESS!!!

For Gay Gary, sorry.

Because no matter how you try in your current ways, God will never bless you a child of your own.

A teenager getting pregnant and have her God blessings in her early life… your eyes are furiously envy. Aren’t you Gay Gary?

When will Sullivan stop being considered "right leaning"? nt

It's not just you

KeyWestConservative (Diary) Wednesday, September 3rd at 5:45AM EST (link)

Of course the Libs will overplay this. That’s what they do. They pushed Barack’s overseas trip so far that by the time he came home people were sick of him. The more they degrade themselves by attacking Palin and her daughter the more people will see them for the lowlife scum that they are. But, as I said, they can’t help themselves. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder can be an ugly thing.

Never.

The media loves these types. They like to think they’re reasonable and sensible. They can point to a right-leaning media source to say they agree to give support for their idea and defend against the partisan tag.

The media is

mikefisk (Diary) Wednesday, September 3rd at 7:29AM EST (link)

The media is absolutely the last place I would go for an accurate description of somebody on a left-right spectrum. I know that, according to the media narrative, somebody like me would probably be considered extreme right-wing (possibly even past Hannity and Limbaugh!), yet I would consider myself a moderate, even possibly center-left (as a libertarian supporter of the GOP, I have no problems calling myself a liberal, and actually get upset with people like Obama being called one even though he’s egregiously opposed to individual liberties unless they involve the same sorts of lascivious acts his press enablers are now decrying).

Besides, the drive-by types need a useful idiot, and Sullivan seems more than happy to oblige, as he can be both in equal proportion (although lately more “idiot” than “useful”).

Sullivan had any credibility left before this?

skey (Diary) Wednesday, September 3rd at 7:31AM EST (link)

Only to those not paying attention. But the Atlantic, now, their credibility has taken a huge hit, and will probably continue to do so.

Voting Litmus Test.

I don’t even have to pay attention to politics any more. All I have to do to make myself comfortable with who I am voting for is to vote for the person who pisses off MSNBC the most.

seems reasonable to me.

randy streu (Diary) Wednesday, September 3rd at 8:23AM EST (link)

If Olbermann starts foaming at the mouth in an uncomfortably ecstatic way, and Chris Matthews starts talking about “tingles,” you should vote for the other guy.

Straightforward.

Okay, that peeves me off.

Moriah (Diary) Wednesday, September 3rd at 10:26AM EST (link)

First, as a woman I really resent the implications of the word “slut”. Men who have sex in a promiscuous manner are generally called “ladies men” and it’s not an insult. It’s only when a woman chooses to have sex that her moral character is attacked with words like “slut” and “whore”.

Second, are teens who don’t get pregnant because they used birth control not “sluts”? Or is it only when a woman gets pregnant out of wedlock that people decide to assume that they were promiscuous? A woman can get pregnant the very first time they have sex — pregnancy does not equate with promiscuity.

As for the sexual orientation of the person who said this, the only thing I am going to say is that the person may wish to be more careful when making moral judgments about others and their sexuality. I doubt he likes it when others make moral judgments about his sexuality.

Blessings,

Moriah
