The latest meme appears to be something along the lines of “Vote Against John McCain Because He Is Short And Doesn’t Dress Like A GQ Model!”
Really, some people could not possibly be more ridiculous. If I am wrong about that, I am deeply afraid.
Of course, it is entirely possible that the latest potshots from the political cheap seats stem from fear:
John McCain and the Republican National Committee started August with a hefty $96 million, financially flush and strongly positioned to compete with prolific fundraiser Barack Obama and the Democrats.
Republicans have been trying to even out the financial playing field after trailing Democrats in overall fundraising for most of the election cycle.
McCain has been a subpar fundraiser and has lagged the much-more adept Obama in monthly campaign tallies. But the RNC, with big-draw President Bush helping, has trounced its Democratic counterpart in collections. That has helped McCain and the GOP stay competitive financially with Obama and the Democratic National Committee.
The July numbers reflect how far McCain and the Republicans have come.
McCain raised $27 million in July, his largest one-month fundraising haul since clinching the GOP presidential nomination, and had $21 million available to spend, while the RNC brought in nearly $26 million, and had $75 million on hand to compete with the Democrats.
Expect more tedious anti-McCain writings soon. It’s all the Huffington Post appears to be good for these days.

At least McCain isn’t parading around in spandex bodysuits, unlike his “good friend” John Kerry last election cycle.

DNC Numbers
Yil Saturday, August 16th at 3:29PM EST (link)DNC raised 27.7M. That’s close to 2M more than the RNC raised last month. I’m not sure that’s sustainable, but Obama is clearly directing large contributors to write bigger checks to the DNC.
Of course Obama himself raised 51M which is more than the RNC and McCain raised combined. The only thing making this close is the huge 75M COH the RNC built up over the last 2 years. Obama’s COH was just reported as 66M so RNC+McCain and DNC+Obama are about tied at the moment.
Projecting out contributions and limits and it’s clear the D’s are going to have way more money though. I think you’re suggestion of “fear” is pretty unfounded since D’s clearly trounced R’s if you include the Senate and House numbers and won every individual matchup last month.
That one really bothered you, didn't it.

It's not all about the money
Adjoran (Diary) Saturday, August 16th at 3:55PM EST (link)Obama has a serious spending problem. His “burn rate” of monies raised is very high – look how little he has left of the hundreds of millions he collected. He outspent Hillary everywhere, although he had a virual lock on the nomination shortly after Super Tuesday, yet lost 6 of the last 9 primaries.
He spends like a lottery winner: lavishly, but not wisely.
