Effigy at the University of Kentucky

This morning, at the University of Kentucky not far away from the library and the VA hospital, students and faculty found an effigy of Barack Obama hanging from a tree. And I mean literally, rope-noose kind of ‘hanging’.

No videos of the news-stories yet, but I expect I’ll find some by tomorrow.

More below the fold.

This is all over the local news. Faculty, the President of UK, select students, and even Governor Steve Bashear are condemning it. They’re calling it ‘bigoted’, ‘racist’, ‘offensive’, ‘despicable’, ‘poor judgement’, and (in the words of our Governor) “This is not political speech. This is pure hate.”

Nobody yet knows who did it, but the UK cops are investigating this and the FBI and Secret Service have been contacted. Some say they could be facing federal charges, hate crimes charges, disorderly conduct… if they’re even charged at all, even /if/ they’re caught.

The mannequin–wearing khaki jeans, a white-collared shirt, a blue sweater/blazer, and a Barack Obama Halloween mask–was strung up on a very tall tree with the rope tied around multiple branches. It took police using a cherry-picker in order to cut it down.

To WLEX-18′s credit in their 6 o’clock news-story, they also added the story of the Sarah Palin effigy in California as contrast afterwards. The owners of /that/ Californian home say that it’s ‘no big deal’, and the city of Los Angeles say that they can’t do anything because “even though it may be tasteless, it isn’t illegal”.

So it’s OK for Palin to be lynched from the side of a house, but it’s not OK for Obama to get the same treatment?

It’s all true, even in as red of a state as Kentucky is. You cannot claim ‘Freedom of Speech’ if you say or do something in protest of That One. Though personally, I’m not sure what I think about this one… other than it took a lot of guts.

By the way, read the comments after WKYT-27′s story. As you can see, most people are outraged alright–outraged that this is seen as a ‘hate-crime’ but the Californian Palin effigy is ‘freedom of speech’. It gives me hope that Fayette County isn’t completely lost to the left yet, even with UK.

Berg vs. Obama/DNC

This is a short post, mainly because I don’t have a lot of time today, unfortunately.

Today, I received a printed e-mail from my grandmother, who lives in Ohio and is closely monitoring this presidential race. She’s well into her golden-years, but she has a sharp mind and an even sharper tongue. Fortunately, even though she was raised a Democrat (but NOT a liberal), she considers herself ‘Unaffiliated’ and is enthusiastically voting for McCain/Palin.

But I digress.

This e-mail is sent from ObamaCrimes, which appears to be a press-release from Philip J. Berg concerning his case. This announcement was sent out on Tuesday, 21 October 2008 at 11:05 (and I’m assuming that’s AM), and it claims that Obama and the DNC admit (due to “Failure to timely respond to Requests for Admissions) to all allegations in his federal lawsuit: Berg v. Obama. Apparently this means that all questions have been “Admitted” as true–such as “I was born in Kenya” and other such things.

However, my problem is that I’ve seen claims that the case has been dismissed outright, or is still sitting on the judge’s desk. Or the various other possibilities running around the Internet, for that matter. I’m afraid I’m just a veteran, not a lawyer.

Can someone clarify for me just what’s going on here, please?

Lunsford versus McConnell

I admit, this is my first post here and I’m quite nervous. I’ve lurked around here ever since Palin was nominated as McCain’s VP, and I guess you could say I finally worked up the nerve to actually sign up.

I am proud to say that I am a Republican Kentuckian who has kept a close watch on the races and polls–but especially for our Senator race. So far, I’ve heard that Bruce Lunsford and Mitch McConnell are in a statistical dead-heat, the votes pretty evenly split. However, though this is quite possibly the greatest challenge McConnell has faced in a long while in his political career… does this necessarily mean that McConnell is in real trouble?

I’m honestly not so sure.

I will first disclose that I have no polls to back any of this up, nothing much other than my own observations and my gut instinct. You see, for the past month or two, the political ads have been heavily Lunsford-created or at least Anti-McConnell. Roughly about a 3 to 1 discrepancy, if not worse. While this honestly doesn’t surprise me, due to the media bias and Lunsford’s wealth, there is a new Lunsford ad that has made me proverbially raise an eyebrow.

I will secondly disclose that I am an avid listener of Rush Limbaugh and Shawn Hannedy (please forgive me if I misspelled their names). Something Rush said today struck me as odd. Apparently, Obama is starting to pull the old “Scare the Elderly” trick by claiming that McCain would cut Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid–the same playbook tactics that Democrats always claim, along with class warfare and ‘punishing big companies’. Now, what is interesting is that Lunsford is doing the /exact same thing/.

This ties back to my original point. Rush made the point that /if/ Obama is truly as far ahead as the Mainstream Media claims, then why is his attacks on McCain getting more and more predictable and, dare I say, desperate? Would his supporters be acting like screaming banshees and roaring brutes, decrying each honest question with “That’s RACIST, you redneck!” (And yes, I’m fully aware of Murtha’s comments about his constituents up in Pennsylvania, but I’m a Kentuckian. It’s normal to be called a “Redneck” by anyone else who doesn’t live around here, normally.)

With that in mind, if Lunsford is truly doing as well as all of his attack ads and polls show, then why is he stooping to the same tactics as Obama? Contrary to popular belief, Kentuckians aren’t stupid inbred hillbillies. We actually do complete research and clearly see the matter of a man (or lack thereof) by his actions. That’s why Obama pulled his ads from Kentucky airwaves after only a week, or why McCain hasn’t played an ad here for a few months now–though I pity our cities that are on the banks of the Ohio River from far more important states (like Ohio).

A good majority of us see that Obama is a fake and cannot be trusted. We also see that Lunsford is regurgitating Democrat/Obama talking points 30 years old or more, and is sounding more and more like an Obama-cultist. A connection from Lunsford to Obama, if only in ideology and plans, just might be what McConnell needs to keep his seat. Now if only he could get that message out to all Kentuckians with the time he has left.
