Gross Pay

The president says he’s creating jobs. I’m skeptical. I guess there are some things government can do to ensure that jobs get created, out there in the bill-paying, profit-making world. But these do not include spending trillions of borrowed money.

And neither do they include simply giving more money to state and local governments.

The truth about Obama’s much-ballyhooed job creation is that more than half of his alleged new jobs turn out to be government jobs.

Government jobs don’t count, Mr. President.

Remember, many things governments do actually drain us. Jobs in the marketplace, on the other hand, serve real consumer demand, make us all better off. They also help pay the taxes for those government jobs. Employing more people in government means needing more real jobs to pay for the government ones.

And how much work do politicians cause us to engage in just to unbury ourselves from their silly, wealth-extracting regulations? I know, I know: Every time they add on some new complication to the tax code, jobs emerge in the accounting and tax-consulting industry. But this doesn’t exactly make us better off, does it? Not on net.

This lesson applies generally. Here’s the bottom line. Government can borrow and tax to spend to create “gross jobs.” Sure. But on net, after balancing the collective books, we’re not better off.

This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

Government jobs don't count

I’m tired of paying for BS jobs like “social worker” – if my neighbor wants to beat the crap out of his kid, it’s not my job to police him. Speaking of police, that’s another wasteful job, if everyone could carry guns we wouldn’t need them. Or a military.

We don't need nuts or mobies either. nt

Agreed

There are too many nuts on gov’t payroll, like the entire EPA.

opoconservative, you're either a nut or a moby. Your posts

Achance (Diary) Thursday, November 19th at 4:23PM EST (link)

range from stupid to inciting and none have added value to the discussion. The one on white kids not getting scholarships was close to outright racist. I’m thinking you won’t make it to your second day here.

It's a moby, quoting itself to Media Matters and the like. nt

Can you please tell me the meaning of "moby?"

Thanks!

Fortitudine vincimus – By endurance we conquer

A poster who takes fake conservative, often extreme, positions

Achance (Diary) Thursday, November 19th at 4:44PM EST (link)

to try to get others to join in and agree or even be more extreme. The worst of them if successful in getting a thread agreeing wiht their inciting comment will then go link the thread to one of the nuthouses like Kos or HuffPo to either show how crazy or how stupid the right can be.

Usually, the only thing they get here is insulted for a while before the blam but a few good, subtle ones have had fairly long runs before their true colors show.

Here is the handy dandy definition...

mschmitt (Diary) Thursday, November 19th at 4:45PM EST (link)

That I lifted from Little Green Footballs a while back (sorry, can’t find a link to the definition page at the moment):

moby – An insidious and specialized type of left-wing troll who visits blogs and impersonates a conservative for the purpose of either spreading false rumors intended to sow dissension among conservative voters, or who purposely posts inflammatory and offensive comments for the purpose of discrediting the blog in question. The term is derived from the name of the liberal musician Moby, who famously suggested in February of 2004 that left-wing activists engage in this type of subterfuge: “For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you’re an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion. Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, ‘What’s all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?’” The strategy has been frequently attempted on LGF and elsewhere, but has not been nearly as effective as Moby envisioned, since false rumors are easily debunked by fact-checking minions, and cartoonishly extreme commenters often get immediately identified as mobys and banned from LGF.

Mom2 left you the answer previously.

Here is the link to her answer. Basically, if you come to this site in disguise, not stating honestly your beliefs and are disingenuous in your dialogue, it will become apparent. When that it revealed, the outcome is not good for the deceitful soul.

Yes, I saw this but I was needing more info to understand.

I wanted to get a total grasp of moby because I knew it wasn’t just a troll. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Muffin, I just wanted to give credit to Mom2.

Absolutely no offense taken. I thought you had missed it. And now checking back, I see that you acknowledged it in a separate comment. Just happened to remember that you had asked, and she had answered. All info is useful here. :)
