Forever Young

Those of us who were teenagers and young adults during the Eighties have been described as shallow, narcissistic, and youth-obsessed. All of this is true.

As a member of the Baby Boomer-Generation X crowd, I can see how such criticism is warranted. I’m in my forties now, and in the midst of my mid-life crisis. I look back on a life of shallow endeavors, the quest for instant gratification, and the wish for eternal youth. Mine has been a pointless life. And, that’s the point I want to make.

In no way am I excusing my generation for being such a disappointment to our Greatest Generation. We are. Even to ourselves. I am simply sharing an epiphany.

As I was listlessly scouring the Internet for any new information about the Health Care bill being savaged on the American people, I found myself on YouTube. While clicking on various links, I stopped short. Along the side, there was a thumbnail of a German music video from the Eighties. I recognized the name of the song and felt a very deep sadness. It is called, “Forever Young” by Alphaville.

This song was my absolute favorite song in the years following my graduation from high school in 1982. It was financially a very difficult time for my family. I hadn’t applied myself in high school and found myself searching for direction and purpose. “Forever Young” reflected my angst in a way I couldn’t quite figure out at the time. But, tonight, twenty-four years after I first heard it, the song’s lyrics and mood have made me better understand myself and my social peers.

It is in the song’s first few verses that I now understand just why my generation has been so self-centered; even nihilistic:

Let’s dance in style, lets dance for a while
Heaven can wait we’re only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever
We don’t have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip

The music’s for the sad men
Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders we’re getting in tune
The music’s played by the madman

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever forever
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever young

I had never listened to the lyrics when I would dance to this song at my fraternity. Frankly, the lyrics sung by the accented English were hard to discern. Looking at them now, I see that it was an anthem for young people the world over who had grown up terrified by the eventuality of nuclear war. The song had at once a defeatist tone while still projecting a defiant sense of hope. The kind of freedom and joy one experiences when living in the moment.

Throughout the years since, I have felt a sense of urgency, as if time was running out. I felt that I had already squandered my best years living in anxiety. In fact, for as long as I can remember, I have always feel “old.” By that I mean, I felt as if life had passed me by, and it was too late for me; I was always playing catch up. Even when I was 23 and transferred to UCLA, I felt uncomfortably “old” around my peers. A part of me no longer felt the wonderful, glorious vitality of youth, and the sense of wonder it engenders. Consequently, I formed no lasting relationships save the one with my college sweetheart, Claire.

So, for the past twenty-four years, I have lived in time indeterminate. I haven’t wanted to live in the past, but I haven’t been able to live in the moment. I was always busy trying to do what I thought I needed to do to prepare for the future. I didn’t have time to lose, I thought. Consequently, I have, in fact, squandered my youth. I will always regret this.

I have to wonder who I might have been and how I might have lived had I not been under the constant fear of annihilation. I will never know. I can only learn to seize the day from now on, and appreciate what’s left of my time on Earth.

Which brings me to wonder the following: Is our current generation of young people being assaulted by terrifying messages the adults of today are propagating?

Just as throughout the Seventies and Eighties, we were bombarded with movies about natural catastrophes and airplane crashes and nuclear plant meltdowns, so too, are the children of today being inundated with panic. Global Warming! Global Warming! We only have five years to save the world!!

I resent Progressives for many reasons. This is one of them. It has been their incessant mewling and whining about Evil America and how it’s people are destroying the world that contributed to the theft of my innocence. Today, the Progressives are doing it again. Only this time, they are spiritually and intellectually destroying the innocence of our children.

We CANNOT allow them to continue to do so. We must reevaluate ourselves, and see the good and nobility that we as Americans possess. Our culture used to be a culture of LIFE. The sheer excitement of discovery and challenge and faith and hope. The word hope has been bandied around like a slogan this past three years. But, I have never felt as hopeless as I do now. Thanks to the radical Progressives in our government and media, hopeless abounds.

The spirit of America has been sapped from us. We have been weakened as a people. The Communists in our midsts have succeeded in their long-term goal: to rid America of God, the Family, and Self-respect. We are on the verge of giving up. Should we do so, our nation dies, and freedom may never again exist in the looming one-world government the Progressives seek to create.

So, we must fight. Fight the despair and hopelessness foisted upon us. We must pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and reclaim our national heritage. As Glenn Beck often says, “Freedom is in the American DNA.” And, he is right. Americans cannot thrive when enslaved.

We must fight the Progressives with every weapon we can devise; for this is a fight for survival. Let’s not let our children down. Let’s recognize the evil that relentlessly leeches hope from our way of life, and save our children from the same indeterminate nihilism caused by the Cold War and the Sixties Revolution. Let us pray to God for the strength to say, “No. We will not give up. We will not surrender. We will be free once more.”

Let us save ourselves and our America. May God bless us all.

No Utopias for Me, I’m an American!

I am an American; a birthright I am very proud to declare at every opportunity.

As an American, I want to be free to live in the random world God has created for us. I don’t want it to be free of chaos or danger or injury or failure. That’s what makes the world what it is. And, I’m accepting of that frenetic state of affairs.

President Obama, as with every other Utopian, would rob us of the travails necessary for the betterment of our human condition. It is the Utopian fallacy of the Progressive Movement that is the single greatest threat to not only our lives, but to the continued existence of the United States of America.

I do not want to live in a risk-free world. I do not want to be protected from the world or from myself. I am just fine. Life, to me, is about learning all I can about the world, others, and myself. By doing so, I will return to my Creator all the richer for having lived.

I believe that God gave us Free Will, and that it is an extraordinary demonstration of His love for us. With free will, we have the power to decide for ourselves if we want to believe in and serve God, or not. We aren’t forced to believe in God. It is all up to us.

Along with free will, God provided us with a chaotic universe created expressly to teach us. It is designed to allow us to succeed and to fail. Failure, as any wise person knows, is the single greatest learning experience there is. If we are diligent pupils, we will accept failure and learn from it. Should we choose to do so, we not only come to understand why certain behaviors or endeavors are not good for us or for the world, but we also become wiser.

Americans must uniformly reject the Progressive philosophy. Its proponents hate the chaotic nature of the world, and, by extension, they hate God. By their very nature, Progressives feel ill-equipped to handle adversity. To them, the freedom God granted us is a curse. That is why they seek to control every aspect of life that they can. That is why they seek to control others.

There is a self-deluding comfort afforded a Progressive when he or she is in a position of control. With the rapaciousness of a glutton intent on eating himself into a state of oblivion, the Progressive hungers for more and more control. However, the level of fear in him only increases as time passes, because injury and infirmity reminds him that mortality looms. Godless and existential, and dissatisfied with the whatever level of control he has managed to achieve, the Progressive seeks solace in the attainment of even more control. How does he achieve this? Through the attainment of absolute power.

The more power a Progressive attains, the more convinced he is that he can control the uncontrollable. Attempting to do so assuages the racking torment he experiences in his narcissistic soul. But, again, not for long. For he inevitably feels the very same undeniable fear we all experience: that when we die, we will cease to exist; we will no longer have awareness and we will no longer matter. For those of us who choose to believe in God, however, we at least have Hope. It is the promise that if we choose to follow Christ and live His words, we will be given ever-lasting life after death.

Death, to the Progressive, not only means nihilism, but also that the world he sought so desperately to control and reshape in his own image while he was alive will not be any more orderly than it was when he first came to awareness. To the Progressive Narcissist, this is the ultimate tragedy of death.

What is most sad about this mentality is that the Progressive completely misses the point. To paraphrase Dr. Michael Savage, adherence to the Progressive Movement is a mental disorder; precisely because it is the willful disregard for free will in his own life that results in his inability to learn from his mistakes.

Subsequently, out of a perennial state of subconscious fear, the Progressive seeks to establish an Utopian oasis within the chaos of the universe. “This time,” he says to himself, “I will succeed where others have failed. In my hands,” he rationalizes, “things will be orderly and controlled. Equality of outcomes will be achieved.”

But, this is a Sisyphean endeavor. This is to completely disregard human nature. There will always be war and strife as long as we are who we are: in a fallen state. As long as there are some born who want more than they deserve or are willing to earn, there will be war. As long as there are those who seek to control others, there will be chaos.

God cast out Adam and Eve from the Garden – the one and only paradise on Earth. In life, there is no going back, for any of us. That is our fate. Just as Adam and Eve were cast out of comfort and order to learn, so too, are we intended to live, learn, and die.

So, no thanks, Obama. No thanks, Progressives. I do not want Utopia. I am an American. I was born to be free to live my life, to use my gifts, to attain skills, and to WORK HARD for what I earn. I want to help make the world a better place for as long as I can and for as long as it will remain so. But I will not give up my God-given freedoms, as bestowed through His gift of free will, just so you can feel better about yourselves. Yours is a fool’s quest.

In Search of Bob Basso

For months I have been Twittering, asking what had happened to Mr. Bob Basso (of Thomas Paine, Common Sense videos).

No one knew anything about what supposedly transpired in April of 2009, when he was purportedly summoned to the White House by President Obama; to discuss “the disturbing nature of the videos.” Well, I e-mailed Mr. Basso last night and asked if he would clarify the situation. He has not yet responded, but, as I searched for more information about him today, I happened upon this May 2009 VIDEO that shows the rumors to be false.

It is because of Mr. Basso’s passion and common sense words that I have become an activist for America and for its Constitution. He, more than anyone else, except Sarah Palin, has renewed my pride as a Conservative, and my love for my country.

It is my hope that I can convince Mr. Basso to travel to San Diego, that we could hold a Constitutional Faire. In it, we would disseminate information about our nation’s politics, how our system of government works, and perhaps even have patriotic music played by a live band. The event would be geared to both adults and children. There would be costumed performers, food, and above all, fellowship for all who call themselves Patriotic Americans.

If you or your organization would be interested in coordinating efforts, please feel free to let me know in the Comments section!

If I Were King of the Foreeeest!

Does running a country with over 300 million citizens really need to be so complicated?

It seems to me that if every capable adult was responsible for his or herself, and if every community was responsible for itself, and if every city were responsible for its citizens, then every state in our union should have no difficulty running its affairs. In such a case, running the country would be fairly easy.

Instead, we have CHILDREN running things. We have petty squabbling and envious backstabbing, and power mad manipulation. And this from our LEADERS! The folks we are supposed to look up to and respect for their wisdom. And, a great number of these “leaders” are actively dumbing down the populace and instilling in their constituents a sense of helplessness, entitlement, and irresponsibility.

I’m just a simple man (Literally. I have the attention span of a gnat, so my wife can only tell me to do one thing at a time, or I will get distracted along the way and forg- SQUIRREL!). But, even with my overcharged mind and moderate education, I now believe even I could run this country. And, I could run it better than any blue-blooded Harvard graduate with Bilderburger connections. I mean, seriously, look at Obama. He is absolutely awful. ANYONE could do a better job.

So, what would I do? Glad you asked. If I were President, the very first thing I’d do is to always speak honestly and directly. I’d throw in a metaphor every once in a while, but I’d make sure that anything I had to say was worth taking the time to listen to.

Also, Political Correctness be damned. Responsible people want to hear the truth. They don’t want leaders who dance around their answers to questions or who are afraid to speak their minds. Pandering to race baiters and grievance mongers who will whine about anything and everything anyway is condescending and just a waste of time.

Soon after taking office, I would support the introduction of bills in the House that would abolish the IRS, the NEA, and the DoE. I would seek to implement a national Flat Tax where citizens are taxed 10% across the board; with no deductions (the working poor would be granted tax credits). Incentives for transitioning from poverty to a livable state would be offered in the form of job training education.

As a matter of course, I’d require every lobbyist who came to Washington and met with ANY politician, aide, or staffer to first sign in with a Congressional clerk. Those records would immediately be made available to the public. Within one week, that information would be displayed via the Congressional web site.

As President, I’d propose and later sign House- and Senate-approved bills that would do the following:

During election campaigns, any television, Internet, or radio commercial that disseminates lies and misrepresentations of fact to the American people would subject candidates to significant fines. The offending candidate would need to immediately apologize to the American public for attempting to defraud them.

Make it against the Constitution for congressmen and women to vote on any bill they haven’t read. An affidavit would need to be signed by each of those who intend to vote yes on the bill. During a vote, absolutely no vote buying and undue influence negotiations would be allowed. All members would be required to remain silent until it is their turn to cast a vote. No last minute speeches would be allowed.

Any proposed bills would need to be focused on a single issue only; with absolutely no pork or unrelated amendments allowable. Only amendments that modify procedure and implementation of the bill would be allowable; as long as they are relevant. The names of the politicians who attach amendments would immediately become public knowledge.

The language of all bills introduced and passed would need to be written so that the average American with at least a high school level education could understand it. Legalese could be attached as appendices, as long as the language in the main body of the bill is clear to begin with.

Any bills introduced in the House would be required to be available for public review for no less than one month before it could be voted on. The same for the Senate.

No one party could manipulate the House and Senate rules to grant themselves an advantage by denying the opposing party members reasonable opportunities to debate issues and to represent their constituents.

During session, any Majority or Minority Speaker who knowingly misinforms or lies to the American public, in contravention of documented fact, would be stripped of their position, and would be subject to criminal prosecution for breaking their oath to uphold the Constitution.

Absolutely NO national business could occur behind closed door sessions, unless national security depended on it. In the event that national security issues are leaked and reported by the media, the person(s) responsible for the leak would be subject to criminal prosecution for treason.

All representatives and senators would be required to maintain a Washington-based web site that allows constituents to post comments about issues and votes, and to ask questions. A reasonable number of questions must be answered by the Congressperson (or by designated aides responding on his or her behalf) within a month of their posting. Should any sitting Congressperson fail to maintain their site and respond consistently with their constituents, this information will be made public both in Washington and in the politician’s home state.

ALL agencies and departments of the federal government would have six months to prepare their operational budgets for auditing. Those found to be operating inefficiently would be given six months to comply with written goals, or face restaffing. Agencies and departments found to be unnecessary or obsolete would be immediately disbanded. The results of all audits and actions taken would be made available to the public, except when doing so would harm national security.

Three words, people: Rule. of. Law. Federal immigration laws would immediately be enforced. Absolutely no Amnesty. If corrupt politicians in Mexico who are beholden to drug lords and Reconquista organizations get upset, I don’t care. As President, I would uphold my Constitutional vow. I would back up our military, border patrol, and national guard; as any good Commander in Chief should do.

As far as foreign policy is concerned, I would publicly denounce any actions perpetrated by a world leader or regime against their citizens. I would not recognize illegitimate governments, nor would I ever allocate tax payer monies to bribe, assuage, or aid them. I would push for immediate dismantling of the United Nations on American soil. We would quit membership and immediately cease any and all funding for that organization.

I most certainly would NEVER denigrate or weaken the image of this nation, and I would powerfully defend its honor and safety against false claims or threats by our enemies.

I’d advocate reassertion of States’ Rights. I would assist in weakening central government by relinquishing responsibility for governing those things that are the purview of State Government; as outlined in the Constitution, and as intended by our Framers (based on their writings).

Finally, I’d promote a national program, in conjunction with state agencies, to educate our citizens about our national history and heritage, our system of government, and their civil rights. I would treat adult citizens like adults, and I would personally lead by example the character traits that I would like our children to develop.

So, if you’re still with me, THAT’S what I would do if I were President, and THAT is what I wish the next Conservative President of the United States would strive to accomplish.

Rules for Radicalized Conservatives

In response to Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, I came up with twelve rules I think we should all adhere to in order to actively fight the liberal-socialist scum who are attempting to take control of every aspect of our lives:

Rules for Cons #1: Be informed and use irrefutable facts. Understand that liberals employ false logic (anti-American arguments are the only good arguments, while pro-American arguments are always bad arguments). Therefore, it is not worth your time or energy to “debate” a liberal. If you decide to engage one, be armed with well-documented facts that will destroy their fallacies. Liberals are hypocrites and liars. They are also poor losers. Expect ridicule and insane viewpoints from them.

Rules for Cons #2: Dismiss Political Correctness for the Marxist cultural doctrine that it is. It was designed by radicals to weaken and then destroy Western Civilization. If someone calls you a racist, recognize they are losing the debate. When they play the race card, toss it away and don’t play their game. All they will do when they are losing is change the rules.

Rules for Cons #3: Recognize and treat liberals for what they are: Anti-American. No matter what a liberal claims, unless he understands and believes in our Constitution, genuinely respects our historical and religious heritage, and actively supports the rights of ALL Americans, and not just of “Progressives,” he is irrefutably anti-American (and therefore, a member of the enemy within). View and treat him as such.

Rules for Cons #4: Expose and refute liberal media bias and disinformation. The Media is not a dispassionate Fourth Estate whose purpose is to counter political excesses and overreaching in our government (if it ever was). It is now solely a propaganda machine for the Fifth Column. A nation cannot be free without a free, unbiased media. We are not free.

Rules for Cons #5: Disobey and legally fight unconstitutional laws. Because Congress has for decades been derelict in its duty to steward our tax monies efficiently and wisely, we must now band together and NOT pay federal taxes. As long as Congress ceases to represent We the People, we must not provide them with OUR money. Imprisonment and fines may be levied. But we must not let our government treat us as cash cows to milk for their own purposes.

Rules for Cons #6: ALWAYS stand up for and uphold the Constitution. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. WE have the true power in this nation, as documented in our Constitution. READ it and study it. Educate yourself on all available documents written by our Founders and Framers. Be proud of who you are and just how remarkable our Constitution really is!

Rules for Cons #7: Respect and remember the sacrifices made by our countrymen and women. NEVER forget the price they paid in blood and limb, and in lost dreams and potential. They chose to fight for this country, and in too many cases, ceased to exist so that our country could continue. They enabled you to enjoy the freedoms you have, and now, you must do the same for our future generations.

Rules for Cons #8: Preserve the spirit and principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution at all costs; and never forget our religious roots. Teach your children about American Exceptionalism. Establish educational programs and foundations to drown out the stream of liberal indoctrination that is demoralizing and perverting our youth, and turning them into dependent, weak-willed parasites on society. Instill in our youth a solid sense of self-reliance, self-determination, faith, respect, and courage. And, never allow our nation’s sovereignty to be diminished or to be subject to control by corrupt agencies, such as the United Nations.

Rules for Cons #9: Be willing to fight against governmental tyranny, as our forefathers instructed. Know that GOD, not our government, made us free. If our government attempts to take away our rights, it is no longer legitimate. It’s your choice to live free or to be enslaved.

Rules for Cons #10: Exemplify moral values in your everyday lives. Loyalty is a crucial American character trait. Despite powerful temptations, be ever faithful to your family, your country, and to our Creator. Only Jesus was perfect. If you do fail to uphold your values, do right by the aggrieved and make restitution. Resign immediately from any post of leadership until such time as others believe you are truly contrite and have proven it.

Rules for Cons #11: Organize and support your fellow Conservative; especially when it is inconvenient to do so. Never leave a patriot behind. Be “an American.” Also, encourage, support, and fight for others in need, or anyone who is being oppressed. Liberty is a universal right. Always be courageous in the face of evil arrogance. Act and do what is right. Indecision and ambivalence leads to moral equivalence, and that allows evil to flourish.

Rules for Cons #12: Recognize, name, and then fight the enemies of this land. We are in the midst of a culture war. It is not a genteel discussion that follows Robert’s Rules. It is a gutter fight. Expect to get bruised. Be willing to parry, thrust, and coupe de grace. Investigate, analyze, and expose the enemy. Make no mistake: Progressives have been at war with Americans for decades. Either fight, or they will succeed in turning this country from a representative republic into a despotic oligarchy where the individual has no rights.
