I agree with Paul Krugman. We are doomed… and many, many Americans feel the same way. And, like Mr. Krugman, even those who once supported Barack Obama and bought into the “Hope/Change” words are now sqirming ’neath a bristly blanket of voter’s remorse. Even more dramatic are the growing number of former supporters who are turning against The One. Far too many times, the “words” of Obama do not reflect his actions and the prosperity he continues to claim to have given us through his actions are fiercely contradicted by the increasing strains, lived and felt daily, by every citizen across this great country.
While addressing his supporters at a DSCC/DCCC Fundraiser in Miami, Florida back in October of 2009, Obama said, “We were facing the worst economic crisis we’d seen since the Great Depression. Losing 700,000 jobs a month. Our financial system on the brink of collapse. Economists were worried that we were going to slip into a depression,” and he explained, ”That’s why we acted swiftly and boldly and we passed a Recovery Act that’s made the difference in the lives all across Florida and all across America.”
Well, I’m not sure how spending $350,000 in federal stimulus money to reward parents of children with disabilities with an i-pod for filling out a 10-minute online survey makes a “difference in Polk County, Florida… And, according to the Bay News poll, 89% (including me) are against the idea. But, hey… I’m just a “teabagger”. What do I know?
At the Fundraiser in Miami, Obama also encouraged his supporters to help him pass his (expensive/freedom crushing) HealthCare bill. “You’ve got to make it happen. You’ve got to push.” (Applause). And he told them, “I promise you, members of Congress listen to you a lot more than they listen to me.” (Laughter)
Yeah… That line made me laugh too.
Still, we cannot deny that Obama’s ”Recovery Act” has “made a difference in the lives of all”… He said it himself:
“Too many people are out there looking for work. Too many people are seeing their hours cut. Too many Americans subject to the whims of insurance companies and are losing their health insurance or can’t afford health insurance at all. Too many good people are worried about whether they’re going to be able to retire. A lot of seniors having to go back to work. Too many people losing their homes.”
Yet he continues to tell us, against all of the suffering caused by his actions, that it was his actions that saved us from the very “brink of collapse” upon which we now stand. And now, as we teeter on the ledge of his salvation, he tells us:
The new economic forecast revealed Thursday by the White House insists that the US economy is set to start producing job growth this year at a rate of 95,000 per month. But at the same time, while Obama’s annual economic report to Congress assures us that the economy is “on the verge of pulling out of a period of steep job losses”, we are also warned against any notion that the words, “pulling out of a period of steep job losses”, means more people will “actually” find work. In fact, we are told that the unemployment rate will remain high and might “actually” increase.
“For growth to be truly sustainable — for our prosperity to be truly shared and our living standards to actually rise — we need to move beyond an economy that is fueled by budget deficits and consumer demand.”
“… actually rise”… A curious choice of words, no?
Obama also said:
“In other words, in order to create jobs and raise incomes for the middle class over the long run, we need to export more and borrow less from around the world, and we need to save more money and take on less debt here at home.”
Democrats, Liberals, Progressives (…or whatever they call themselves today to avoid the negatives associated with their last chosen moniker), have always seen the rest of us a stupid. They tell us the world is going to burn up due to man-made global warming. Then, while much of the country is shoveling out from beneath record breaking snowfalls, they tell us, with a straight face, that the record cold is “actually” CAUSED by global warming. They tell us how they have saved us from economic collapse while increasing our national debt. As thousands continue to loose their jobs, they tell us of the thousands of jobs they have “actually” ”created/saved” and that while thousands of jobs will be created by the NEW Stimulous Jobs Bill, unemployment might “actually” go up…
It all “actually” seems quite ridiculous to the rest of us… But, I guess it all depends on what the definition of “actually”, actually… is…
