President Barack Obama’s first full day of office begins today. Whether we thought he was the right pick for the job, we need to put our country first. We need to make sure that he has the respect of the American people. While we may not like some of the things he’s said or done, he has not soiled the office of the President. Thusly, we need to make sure that he has the opportunity to do a good job and make us proud.

He needs our compassion, as he is taking the most difficult job in the world. He will be faced with decisions that could kill thousands, and needs to know that we will not badger him for no reason. Even if he is a great President, there will be times that we will disagree with him. We can’t let little things get in the way.
This nation will face hard times over the next four years. Foreign crises and the economy could cause havoc. This is why the new President needs to focus and do his best. He can’t have griping on his mind. We’ve seen the effects of unnecessary assholery. We can’t suffer it again. The Republicans did it in the 1990s, when President Clinton should have been focusing on Iraq and bin Laden. Instead, he was mired in impeachment hearings. President Bush was called every name under the book, mainly by those who would believe their IQs so grand that they could decode the genome, while they could not even get through three semesters at college.
So we need to be civil, if nothing else. Even if you believe that President Obama doesn’t deserve it, America does.

If you mean we should be civil. I agree. There is such a thing as civil disagreement and it is a method of argument that we should practice. Even though we were never given the same courtesy from his (your?) side…..

Putting our country first
sickofitall Thursday, January 22nd at 2:51PM EST (link)means opposing him at every turn and fighting every initiative. The worst thing for America is a second term. As for soiling the office, he did that the second he stepped into the race and running like a beauty queen rather than a candidate. The Office of the President is indeed the most difficult, and important job in the world, it’s not a f’n trophy to put on your mantle. Lastly I have to agree with Finrod- Clinton brought it all on himself and every and all responses to that were completely merited. I’m only sad that we didn’t have the votes to toss him out on his *ss. Then we could have seen a year of Gore’s failed Presidency as well and we wouldn’t have to tolerate his unending sanctimony.

Next93 (Diary) Thursday, January 22nd at 8:52PM EST (link)In case you hadn’t noticed, the new president has a majority in both houses of congress. They’ve taken control during an economic crisis that *they* caused (can you say “Reichstag Fire”?), they’ve already used that crisis to nationalize the banking and auto industries, and they have the health care and energy industries in their sights. The new president is on record as saying that the Warren court failed because it didn’t ignore the constitution and institute redistribution of property, that the constitution itself is flawed because it doesn’t enumerate entitlements, and that we need a new Declaration of Independence. He wants to create a “domestic security force” for unstated reasons. He’s pledged to halt all weapons development, surrender in a war that we’re winning, provide foreign terrorists with Miranda rights, and negotiate with people who believe God will reward them in the next life for killing us. In a few weeks he’s hoping to sign a bill that will give corrupt unions free reign to intimidate workers, and another that will take away the rights of health care providers to refuse to perform abortions.
In the midst of this, the press has been acting like a 12 year-old girl at a Hanna Montana concert, the one person who asked the candidate a difficult question was investigated by several government agencies, and there’s a cult of personality that would make the “president” of North Korea blush.
And now you have the nerve to tell the “loyal opposition” that WE are the ones who are a danger to the country?
Screw that. There’s not a single policy this president has that I want to see succeed. If I have my way come 2012, the only presidential accomplishment he’ll be able to claim will be that he’s never been seen in public with mismatched socks. But even that will be a boost to his resume; it’s the longest he’ll have ever held a job.
Obama was The One in 2008.
He’ll be a BIGGER one in 2012.

Obama is doubting his own benefit
izoneguy (Diary) Thursday, January 22nd at 10:13PM EST (link)In the course of two days the true Obama has shown his self to world. This is the Obama I doubted 18 months ago and I was right. Obama is in retreat and is ready for defeat. What purpose does closing Gitmo accomplish? All he is doing is rewarding his leftist base with goodies. Closing Gitmo will be a HUGE mistake. Of course Obama will never admit it will be a mistake if even 20,000 or 200,000 Americans ge killed because of it. He is rewarding bad behavior and has a flawed decision making process that will make America a poorer and more dangerous place to live.
The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.
