…and I Now Resent You for Talking Me out of My Never-Cast-My-Vote-for-McCain Position

(Title references Ntrepid diary from nearly one year ago “…and I Reject Your Shallow Analysis of My Never-Cast-My-Vote-for-McCain Position” (1))

Before I go on, I’d like to invite (in a way that may be easily mistaken for urging strongly) the honorable John McCain to indefinitely suspend his Senate career in order to resume his 2008 general election presidential campaign.  The overly handled, mildly humble yet confident, genuine American hero nominee is far more tolerable than the arrogant Senator who seems to thrive on poking me in the eye.

“I think we ought to let Senator Clinton, who is obviously qualified and obviously will serve, get to work immediately,” (2)

The complete arrogance in both content and tone of the above statement to the press regarding Secretary of State designate Hillary Clinton after virtually nothing that could be confused with serious deliberations with the intent of providing a thorough vetting towards valuable “advise and consent” (i.e. doing his job) seems to come from some complex logic that most of us commoners simply cannot comprehend.  Something like:

“I’m a Senator and I know that I am obviously qualified.  Therefore, all Senators are obviously qualified.”

I’m sorry but being an unremarkable lawyer, a governor’s wife, a first lady, and being handed the senate seat from New Your designated to be whored out to Democrat Party royalty in no way qualifies one in an obvious manner any more than being listed as an attorney on any one of 88 pages of them in my local phone book.  Ironically, several decades of dealing with a lying, cheating spouse would be excellent qualifying experience for leading similar types  buried in the various levels of entrenched bureaucracy within the Department of State…if she was Republican.

Like a broken record (see also (3)), I’ll submit some of my favorite “obvious qualifications”.  For instance, the raving evaluation of her talents as a lawyer in the service of her government that stresses that she was not suitable for “any future position of public or private trust” (4) with some added detail:

“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.” (5)

More recently she further demonstrated her respect for the law and authority while testifying in the Travelgate investigation where her statements, under oath, were patently false (6).

I’m sure all of these demonstrated “obvious qualifications” will be very helpful when it comes to the oversight responsibilities of a Senate that takes all of their other duties so seriously.  She will surely give them the respect they deserve.

Thanks Senator.

We were all fooled by the Maverick

Probably much like you, Ntrepid, I knew back in the beginning of 2008 that McCain was my very last pick for Republican nominee, after every single other one, even after Ron Paul. And as a primarily national security Republican at the time, that’s a big deal. I knew that McCain was decent on national security, but he seemed to be reliably and predictably wrong on every single domestic and international issue that didn’t have to do with war. Something is wrong with a candidate who so reliably clashes with his own party. Now we know the problem is his bipartisanship, which means his Democrat-lite beliefs, which comes from his desire to be popular with the cool (liberal) kids.

Anyway, while Mack was wrong on every issue other than war, and Paul was wrong on the war, I couldn’t support either of them because I needed a complete candidate. There had to be a candidate who had a decent economic plan, aggressive, charismatic, smart, and well-spoken, who would continue to take the war to the terrorists’ lairs. I thought Romney would have been the best of the imperfect bunch. Unfortunately he was beaten and dropped out before I even had a chance to vote for him in the primaries.

I ended up voting the Operation Chaos ticket, which was OK I guess. But I would have rather been voting for a candidate I actually liked, and by that time the only candidate left was McCain. We have to make sure we have real, conservative Republican choices in all future elections, and not just the presidential elections for that matter.

We’re all pretty much in the same boat. My 18 year old son did a MUCH better job of researching the candidates before the primary (even back then, he’s identified Obama as a socialist). He and my husband voted for Romney, I voted for Huckabee, none of us had a real candidate to vote for in the main election. We all voted for McCain because it was important to try to stop Obama. Reminded me of an election in the early 90s in Louisiana – the motto was “vote for the crook [Edwin Edwards] – it’s important” (he was running against David Duke – Mr. KKK). So, we did the best we could with what we had – it wasn’t good enough but maybe we’ve all gotten the proverbial “kick in the pants” and I pray we can regain some of the ground we are sure to lose between now and 2010.

No!!!11!1!!1!1! The Bilderbergers are coming

I'm not beating myself up, just sad

I don’t even think I could have voted for McCain if he hadn’t picked someone like Palin. And I know for sure my wife would have stuck with the Dems and voted Obama if Palin hadn’t been in the race. As it is, this is the first time in her life she voted for a Republican ticket. Hopefully the Republicans can keep it together enough to keep voters like her on their side.

Your wife votes Democrat?

I must be lucky, I have brain-washed mine; however, she wasn’t fired up about the election until Palin came on to the seen.

She understands a lot more about the conservative side than she used to. It’s part of maturing I guess. Happens to the best of us, sooner or later.

Starting to homeschool the kids and realizing the uselessness of public schools was probably another piece of the puzzle.

Feel like I just wasted the most important right that I possess. My vote… carelessly spent on Senator MaCabre.

Could not have been wasted more… than if I had thrown my vote up a wild goat’s butt. (<— sorry Erick)

Shameful… I feel dirty… but I have vowed to fix my indiscretion. That’s why I am here to support Erick and his band of patriots. This forum… is my only lifeline to sanity. At first I was sad… but here… I HAVE HOPE.
