Trouble at the RPV

Finance chairman Walter Curt resigns…and kicks over the trash can on his way out the door:

“Unfortunately the problems of structure, power projection, consultant interference, interpersonal difficulties, years of internal malaise, luddite attitude, leadership, and unity of purpose stand in the way of any hope of success,” Curt wrote.

Describing the state GOP as “dysfunctional,” Curt credited Frederick with attempting to end the party’s reverses.

“Your leadership style obviously needs polish,” Curt said in his “Dear Jeff” letter. “But given the tremendous headwinds you are trying to move against it is amazing what you have accomplished.”

This is in direct contrast to the “happy party” depicted in the Weekly Standard. Which one is more accurate? I leave it to Tolstoy:

“Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”

I am a resident of VA. I can tell you first hand that NOVA (Northern Virginia) rules Virginia, if for no other reason than because they are some of the most populated areas in VA. It is a very Blue and Liberal bastion. They could have alone voted in Obama, and did. There are still many conservative areas in Va, but, because they are not as heavily populated as northern virginia, they can’t beat the more populated areas in number of votes. In central virginia, particluarly in the Charlottesville and surrounding areas, there are many many retirees from the Yankee States, NY, NJ and some New England states, that retired here, brought their children here for lower taxes and better living, and unfortunately brought their Liberal views and votes with them.

Mr. Frederick was on the line with remaining the GOP Chair in VA, I’m not sure how he remained in the position. I personally asked him why the Republicans, and particularly Bob McDonnell weren’t out front with promoting McDonnells candidacy, and why he/we were not getting out in front of the Dems, particularly since McAuliffe had already campaigned in most of the state. Mr. Frederick’s response to me- “It’s not necessarily my job to make sure that everyone and anyone knows what we are up to (in fact, in some cases, we don’t want folks to know the details of our activities). There you have it folks!

a complete shitbird for the thirteen-plus years I’ve known of him. I remember in 1996, on the eve of the Harrisonburg City Council elections, he mailed a letter to almost everyone in the city trashing one of the Republican incumbents. She lost, and the city was left with only one GOPer on the city council. Then he went apeshit over George Tederick’s loss to Mark Obenshain in 2003, and did a similar number when Emmet Hanger beat Scott Sayre four years later. He made personal enemies with anyone who supported GOP primary opponents he opposed.

He’s good at raising money, and has done well in his own business, but as a person, he sucks.
