Biden's Pick to Head the ATF Has Posted Some Really Nutty Things

During his announcement about his gun control executive orders today in the Rose Garden, Joe Biden also announced his choice for the head of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, David Chipman.

As I wrote earlier, Biden had a little trouble with the name of the agency, calling it “alcoball” and then referring to it as the “AFT” twice while naming Chipman.

As we noted, the AFT is the American Federation of Teachers. It’s headed by Randi Weingarten who has been holding the Biden folks over a barrel on schools.

But the Chipman appointment may have been one of the worst things about the announcements that Biden made today. Chipman’s nomination should alarm us all.

While he’s a former ATF agent, he’s also been a gun control advocate for years and he’s also been a senior advisor to an anti-gun group.

Gun groups called out his choice.

Dudley Brown, president of the National Association for Gun Rights, noted Chipman’s role as a case agent for ATF in the Branch Davidian trial while he was based at the Waco, Texas, field office.

“David Chipman has been on the leading edge of ATF scandals for decades, all the way back to Waco – and now he shills for gun confiscation with Gun Control Inc.,” Brown said. “Chipman has embraced every hair-brained gun control scheme proposed, so of course Biden and Harris chose him – he’ll fit right in with their corrupt administration

That sounds like we need to hear a lot more of his involvement.

Gun Owners of America also issued a statement, “David Chipman’s anti-constitutional lobbying career clearly disqualifies him from holding public office.”

But that’s not all. He isn’t just bad because he’s a gun control advocate, that might be bad enough. He’s bad because he’s got some very crazy ideas.

Chipman falsely claimed in an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit that the Branch Davidians in Waco used two .50 caliber Barretts to shoot down two Texas Air National Guard helicopters. He was claiming that to push more gun control.

“At Waco, cult members used 2 .50 caliber Barretts to shoot down two Texas Air National Guard helicopters. Point, it is true we are fortunate they are not used in crime more often. The victims of drug lords in Mexico are not so lucky. America plays a role in fueling the violence south of the border.”

It never happened, helicopters were never shot down in the incident. So either he’s delusional or he’s falsely claiming it to make a political point. The greater takeaway should be that a lot of people died in a mess that the ATF handled very badly.

Either way, it’s a pretty nutty claim which doesn’t portend well. And he thinks we’re “fueling violence” in Mexico? The only time we “fueled violence in Mexico” was under Obama/Biden during the “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal.

Chipman also revealed, just like Joe Biden, he doesn’t appear to know a lot about guns, claiming that “assault weapons like the semiautomatic AR-15 … are identical to those used by the military.”

During House Judiciary Committee testimony in 2019, Chipman made clear that he thought that the 90s assault weapons ban hadn’t gone far enough, that “assault weapons” should be banned and that any exiting assault weapons should be registered and taxed.

Chipman has also thinks gun sales should be restricted only to licensed gun stores

Sounds like this guy is a real problem. So naturally, Biden picked him.
