There are certain things that everyone just understands about elections.

One of those things is that you really shouldn’t be campaigning/electioneering near a polling place.

But apparently either no one ever told Kamala Harris or she just didn’t care about the optics of it.

Here she is outside the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, with an amplified microphone talking to the the voters in line to vote.

“Thank you for voting and voting early,” Harris said to the line of voters. “Your vote is your voice, your voice is your vote. There is so much at stake. Don’t let anyone ever take your power. The power of your voice is so important. You are going to make the difference. You are going to make the decision about your future, about your family’s future. It is through the voice of your vote. And you have the power, the power is with the people. And you know that. That’s why you’re standing in this line today, and I just came to say thank you.”

Now, give that they seem to be having trouble having anyone come out for their rallies, Harris likely went to where she knew there would be a captive audience of sure voters to hear from her.

Now, technically it might not be a violation of the election laws because in Ohio it requires her to be 100 feet away from a polling place and not within 10 feet of a voter. She likely was 100 feet away. But with the amplified mic, she certainly violated the spirit of the law and put people in a bad position of being forced to listen to her. The optics were not good. Most didn’t look overly excited to see her there, although there was a group in the middle that were.

Harris also did it today near a polling place in Detroit at the Northwest Activities Center.

Are they really so desperate that this is the only way they can get the ears of voters? And believe me, if I’m a voter in line to vote, the last thing I’d feel comfortable with is a politician trying to electioneer me.
