New Poll: Who Should Be the Next Governor of South Carolina?

Henry McMaster took over as Governor of South Carolina after Nikki Haley left to become UN Ambassador. Does the party want to keep him there?

Target Insyght polled the state. McMaster is the incumbent, but he can’t even crack 50 in a multi-way race. He is up 24, though, at 46%. Catherine Templeton, running on the Nikki Haley-type outsider platform, is in second at 22%, Lieutenant Governor Kevin Bryant is in third at 6%.

McMaster’s favorability rating is good. He’s at +23 (59%-26%). Templeton is at +19 (35%-16%). This race isn’t over. Templeton, if she can become known, and maintain that kind of favorability ratio, could make this a real contest.

Nikki Haley managed to go from last to first. We can’t count Templeton out, yet.

On the Democrat side, State Representatives James Smith and Phil Noble are tied at 27%, with Marguerite Wills just behind at 21%. That race is wide open.
