Donald Trump won some important swing states by the skin of his teeth. A new poll says voters in three key states are are not only unhappy with his performance, but they are getting embarrassed by him!

Marist College polled three swing states without which Trump could not have won last year: Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. All three states Democrats thought were part of their “Blue Wall” turned out to have suburban and rural voters ready to go in for Trump.

These voters, according to this poll, are not happy. Says The Hill:

Just 25 percent of voters in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin said Trump’s conduct made them feel proud, while 28 percent of voters surveyed in Michigan said they were proud of Trump.

The NBC News/Marist poll also found that in all three states, voters prefer a Democrat-controlled Congress to a Republican-controlled Congress. Voters in Michigan prefer a Democrat-controlled Congress by a margin of 48 to 35, while voters in Wisconsin gave Democrats an 8-point advantage and Pennsylvania voters give them a 10-point advantage.

If this poll were accurate, this would be a leading indicator of a bad year for Trump’s party in 2018, as well as diminishing his chances at winning re-election in 2020. But as I always say: discount issue polling. Context always matters, and at times unintentionally creates a push poll. As The Hill said:

The polls were conducted from August 13 to 17, after the violence at a white supremacist rally in Virginia and following Trump’s initial response to the violence, in which he didn’t directly call out white supremacists and instead placed the blame on “many sides.”

He’ll rebound. But by enough, we’ll never know for sure this year.
