Behold your NRSC-favored candidate in the California Senate race, in a 2006 interview in Salon:
[Salon:] Are you a Republican?
[Carly Fiorina]: Right now.
What does that mean?
I hesitate because in this country right now, party affiliations have become so polarized. In business you try and focus on what you can agree on and common goals and common objectives. In politics in this country all we ever do is talk about what we disagree about. I’d much rather talk about what we agree the problems are.
Could Carly Fiorina actually be the second NRSC-backed candidate this cycle to jump parties? Or, more accurately, in Fiorina’s case it would mean jumping back out of the Republican party, as the self-proclaimed lifelong Republican was an Independent when she finally managed to register in 1997.
Does the NRSC vet its candidates using surplus Obama administration checklists? Seriously.

Teaparty effect may explain...
IL_Glock21 (Diary) Friday, March 12th at 11:01PM EST (link)…if she’s just trying to avoid offending them. There seems like quite a few tea party folks resentful of the GOP establishment in a way that comes off as wanting candidates to appear more independent from the GOP, especially those adamant that the tea party isn’t a GOP offshoot or tool for GOP victories.

Some of us read, Neil. You did say 2006
Richard Mullins (Diary) Friday, March 12th at 11:19PM EST (link)and Ms Fiornia seems to have problem with memory. She could call herself a Republican here in Texas because we don’t register by party but seems not work in States like California or New Jersey. Oh well, Carly might be thinking of something new now.

Right Now. Chuck DeVore.

Carly is McCain in a skirt. He's looking to elect "his successors"
archer52 Saturday, March 13th at 1:39AM EST (link)McCain openly stated he wanted to put into federal office people he felt were of like mind. She is one of his choices. She would be an embarrassment. Even as she runs for office she is tap dancing to the left. Why? Well, it is California and that place is a factory for leftist nutjobs. But I’d rather not win that seat than put up with trying to guess which way she’d go on any issue. Graham and McCain keep me busy enough. Hopefully the voters of California feel the same way.
Not betting on it, just hoping.
I'd prefer DeVore, but if it's Carly v Boxer
Adjoran (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 4:06AM EST (link)It would be pretty ridiculous to claim equivalence there. Sure, I’d expect her to be borderline RINO and off the reservation from time to time like McCain, but Boxer is 100% predictable and 100% leftist and 100% wrong, and Ahnald’s dog would be an improvement.
Exactly

johnt Saturday, March 13th at 7:38AM EST (link)is to join them. It is possible that Carly is repulsed by rightist Republicans, so uncouth, as the media culture has informed her.
Dems would love working with her, they love sponges. But the sponge better cooperate 100% otherwise a call to the Times & there goes the reputation.

Castor (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 7:57AM EST (link)Support Chuck Devore in the primary, but if Fiorina wins ,hold your nose and vote for her in the general. It reminds me of a time many moons ago in Pennsylvania that a Republican running for the legislature was as far left as the dimmocrat, so I wrote in the name of my mother´s dog. The dem won and nobody lived happily ever after.
Seconded

I don't believe Carly is a closet Democrat
RedBeard Saturday, March 13th at 9:09AM EST (link)I also don’t believe she is a Republican in any meaningful sense.
What she is, right now, and forever, is another in a sickeningly long line of rudderless “R” badge-wearing politicians with no firm philosophical underpinnings, subject to being shoved around by the prevailing winds. The Senate already exceeds its quota of such undependable folks.
Give the devil his due; at least the lefties have firm principles. Dead wrong, but we know where they stand. And that firmness is what gives the lefties power. Can no one in the GOP “leadership” see this?

As appealing as it is to send Babs "Ma'am" Boxer
Warrior (Diary) Saturday, March 13th at 9:41AM EST (link)to the political scrapheap of history, I think it would still be wrong to vote for a Fiorina-type candidate.
CA is a failing state. Let us let it fail under the banner of Democratic Liberalism for all the world to see. If we elect Fiorina now and the state fails, all the libs will have to do is point to Ahnold and Carly and say, “See? It was BI-PARTISAN failure.”(Rather than IDEOLOGICAL failure.)
It’s similar to the Scozafava debacle. I would truly rather lose with a principled candidate (like Doug Hoffman) than with a RINO who will blow with the wind and suck like a lemmon in governance.

Did we learn nothing from the election of Barack Obama?
RedBeard Saturday, March 13th at 5:04PM EST (link)Warrior, I appreciate your anger, but it is misdirected just a bit. It’s the actions you are recommending that resulted in John McCain losing, and the elevation of the disgraceful Barack Obama to the highest position in the land. We’re in a terrible mess, due in no small part to those who disliked McCain to the point of shooting themselves in the foot by not voting against Obama.
Yes, by all means, let’s try to defeat Fiorina in the primary. But if she succeeds there, Californians simply must grit their teeth and vote against Babs “Call Her Senator” Boxer. The stakes (for the country, not just California) are too high to do otherwise.

You may be right, but
Warrior (Diary) Tuesday, March 16th at 2:13PM EST (link)I believe the Office of the President is a different and special case. Yes, I held my nose and voted for McCain, but all this bi-partisan, Dem-Lite, RINO crap gets us is half the blame for the Libs’ failures.
I believe Americans need a clear example of the kind of lunacy the Libs are actually peddling. And yess, I know they will see it from Obamanomics’ eventual failure, but I would prefer they learn before then in order to prevent it.
