Taking Down the Birthers

Leon Wolf has already taken down the birthers by showing the negative political consequences of pushing the vast, bipartisan* conspiracy theory, and of course point by point takedowns of the theories themselves have been published, but today NRO has a good summary up.

All at once, the Editors (of NRO or National Review, I don’t know which) take down every aspect of the whole birther movement. It’s a good read.

I already know the answer the truthers birthers are going to give, though. “No, a Certificate of Live Birth is not a Birth Certificate,” they say. Except, well, Hawaii’s Vital Record office uses the terms interchangeably. What is different, however, is the Certificate of Hawaiian Birth. That was a pre-statehood program to get people registered who had been born without getting a birth certificate. People in that position I assume primarily were natives. In any case, a) the program was terminated when Hawaii was granted statehood, and b) the certificate presented by the Obama campaign clearly states Live Birth, not Hawaiian Birth.

Other objections are handled by the article well, I believe, and are complete with historical precedent. It’s worth a read.

Mainstream Republican and conservative activists must push out the birthers to the fringe, where they belong, lest our whole movement become as deranged as the Netroots became over 9/11 conspiracies. I thank NRO for their help in this, reprising the role NR played in attacking another famous fringe, the John Birch Society.

* Linda Lingle, being a Republican and Governor of Hawaii, would surely have to be involved in any conspiracy to forge a Hawaiian birth for Barack Obama.

Obama could remove this controversy once and for all if he would give his permission to Hawaiian state officials to release his birth certificate to the public. Why he doesn’t always made me curious.

No he couldn't

1. That’s a blanket generalization. Some “birthers” are simply asking to see a long form birth certificate, showing more details of the birth, including the hospital in which it took place.

2. The President and his advisers have spent a great deal of money (in and out of court) to stonewall, rather than release personal paperwork, including college transcripts, scholarly work, passport, health records, etc.

3. It’s a very Clinton-esque approach to public life, and I imagine some who found it disturbing then, find it disturbing in this president as well. More evidence of double standards, since Republicans would not be allowed to keep those things private.

It’s on factcheck.org larger than life for everyone to review. I wouldn’t want my actual birth certificate issued since I don’t want people messing up my credit.

Of course with Obama’s financial spending ways, perhaps he shouldn’t be granted credit.

Ok, Obama 1961 to 1967 lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, and from 1967 to 1977 he, his mother and stepfather lived in Indonesia where he attended public Muslim schooling in Jakarta, but reportedly not a madrassa the most radical Muslim brainwashing schools so it was OK. Now to attend public in Jakarta reportedly you must be a resident, no dual citizenship. So how did Obama become a US resident again?

I am not party to all these conspiracy theories but I do think they are a useful distraction for the opposition. Heck, let them have at it. I found most of them are also 9|11 truthers as well so most of them seem to be liberals. It seems what party they belong to is also another conspiracy theory.

Win on the issues!

I think that most people understand that if BHO was not a citizen, then this would be a unique Constitutional crisis. But if he was driven from office on a technicality, that would just add fuel to the fire for those who insisted we, “Count every vote” in 2000 and that they were “disenfranchised” in 2004. Unlike Bill Clinton, BHO cannot tack to the middle. He is too angry, too arrogant, and way too radical. We are starting to beat him on the issues, the MSM is even showing signs of doubt. America must be made to understand that Socialism doesn’t work.

Birthers miss what could be the real issue...

texas214 (Diary) Tuesday, July 28th at 12:25PM EST (link)

and that is that the issue of citizenship. If question is that if there ever was a so called long form birth certificate, or a passport at anytime which showed dual citizenship. I’m not a birther by any means, HE WAS BORN IN HAWAII. My guess is that if there is anything to this it comes in the form of some sort of dual citizenship that he or his family claimed for him.

There are stories in the blogosphere, that I’ve never seen confirmed or refuted that he has traveled to parts of the world that were restricted to American citizens. The explaination is the only way he could have gotten there is with a passport from some other country, maybe Kenyan from his father’s ancestry.

I’m not sure that is disqualifying for “natural born” status, only thought to be embarrassing to the voting public. All of this aside I agree the real focus for the GOP should only be the destructive nature of his policies and let National Enquirer work on the birther issue.

Assume, for the sake of arguement, that BHO was born in Kenya

Michael M. Keohane (Diary) Tuesday, July 28th at 12:41PM EST (link)

So What! The meaning of the term “natural born citizen” in the Constitution is spelled out, as all such terms must be, in the naturalization statutes. The term has been defined and re-defined, over the years, to cover new situations.

First, for the children of diplomats and other government employees serving overseas. Then for the children of citizens living or traveling overseas. I sincerely doubt that any of the sitting Justices on the Supreme Court would find that BHO is not a “natural born citizen” even if he was born in Kenya.

His citizenship, if he was born in Kenya, derives from the fact that his mother was an American citizen at the time of his birth. That point is beyond dispute.

Some “birthers” have claimed that, under one statute, his mother did not meet a residency requirement. It is old and settled law that an impossibility is void.

Their point is that the statute requires that, after her sixteenth birthday, the mother must reside in the United States for, IIRC, six years. As BHO was born when his mother, IIRC, was under 20, it is obvious that she could not have lived six years in the United States after her sixteenth birthday and BHO’s birth.

As this creates an impossibility, the Court will rule that she meets as much of the residency requirement as was physically possible and the remaining period is void because of impossibility of performance.

IMHO, HBO does not want to produce his original birth certificate for the same reason he is not willling to release other documents – to avoid embarrassment between the Obama meme and reality.

After all, look what happened to Al Gore and John Kerry when they released their records. Although the media did not report on it, the Internet bloggers had a field day. The Liberal meme was that GWB was not very intelligent and a poor scholar while Gore and Kerry were men of great intelligence and scholarship.

However, their records, when compared to those of GWB, revealed something different. Their military AFQT scores ( an IQ substitute) linked GWB first, Kerry second and Gore last. Both GWB and Kerry’s Yale years overlapped. GWB, a self-admitted “party-animal” turned out to have better grades than Kerry.

I suppose that Obama knows that, if his own records are released, the difference between what he and his supporters have been claiming about his scholastic background and the actual records would be embarrassing.

I’ve never thought Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. I never considered it as a way of removing him from office, either. I just thought it was strange he went to such lengths to fight all of this.

However, I read the NRO piece earlier this morning, and it’s convinced me to let it go, and it did so by reminding me of a good point: I myself have a copy of my own birth certificate. It looks nothing like I imagine the real thing does, bears a very worn seal, etc. It is a straight-up photocopy of my birth certificate – and I can assure you I was born in the State of Connecticut.

Who knows why he’s chosen to spend so much money fighting FOIA requests? Maybe his version of a knee-jerk reaction is to dispatch lawyers at the drop of a hat. I don’t know, and more importantly, I no longer care. Yes, he’s shady as hell, and his every action only adds to my suspicions of him, but you can consider me a former birther-in-training.

I’m out.

I'm with you.

I do think, however, we should pass legislation that requires some sort of official certification of eligibility for anyone on the ballot, starting in 2012. I don’t even really care about seeing the damn birth certificate with my own two eyes, as long as it’s reviewed by a qualified bi-partisan commission. This way we never have to have any discussions about presidential eligibility again.

What makes me curious is why people like Matthews and the left reject this idea. We all know they have no regard for upholding the Constitution, but what plausible reason could they give for making sure some illegitimate candidate doesn’t usurp the highest office in the land?

I’m a banned Democrat who came here to promote the idea that Republicans are racists for disliking Barack Obama.

I don’t necessarily agree that these rumors are detrimental to the GOP.

As long as the White House meets birther questions with a dismissive attitude as they’ve been doing (and it appears from a righteous position) instead of engaging any questions, it will appear as though they’re hiding something. Therefore, they will never go away.

The administration’s policy of dodge, duck and deflect would work against them here, even though I think it would serve them well to answer all the questions in a straightforward manner. Why don’t they just say, “Call Hawaii – see if you can be issued a birth certificate that doesn’t say, CoLB”?

Also, unlike 9/11 conspiracy theorists, whom any non-instutionalized American can agree are insane, we really don’t know much about Obama’s past, other than what he wrote in his memoirs. Their unwillingness to answer this, let alone any questions directly, will leave a lingering doubt in the minds of some – probably not enough to make a difference one way or the other, but I don’t think it would be detrimental. How detrimental was the moronic Trig-gate rumor last year?

So, while I think this it is sad that this is turning into a Saul Alinsky defamation tactic, I have no political sympathy for Obama. So, I hope it helps undermine him and his statist agenda.

I’m a banned Democrat who came here to promote the idea that Republicans are racists for disliking Barack Obama.

Where's the birth certificate?

ruthie Tuesday, July 28th at 1:02PM EST (link)

Leon Wolf didn’t “take down” the birthers and “our movement” is not losing “thanks to these people.” Further, National Review Online hasn’t proven anything either. Until Obama puts his supposed transparency on the line and proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he meets all constitutional requirements to hold the U.S. presidency, that shadow will remain. It’s not a conspiracy theory! Obama is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on attorney fees to swat this fly, so to speak. He has not released any personal records, birth certificate or otherwise, ever, period.

The reason a “natural born” citizen is a constitutional requirement is under the premise that they would be less likely to have divided allegiance and alliances. Obama clearly displays these divisions on all fronts.

You make an error in your argument

Jeff Weimer (Diary) Tuesday, July 28th at 2:12PM EST (link)

It’s the accusers – you, for example – who have to prove “beyond a shadow of a doubt” your allegations, not the defendant. You can’t just lay something out there and then say “prove me wrong!” That’s why the 9/11 truthers and Andrew Sullivan look so silly. That argument also becomes self-fulfilling – “well, he won’t prove me wrong to my (unreasonable) satisfaction, so there must be SOMETHING there!” You look foolish and passive-aggressive making these allegations and then sitting back and waiting for the other guy to finish what you started.

When this first came up, I looked into it – and found that no matter the situation, he’s “natural-born” as per the laws in effect at the time. Article II is silent on dual-citizenship, so that’s a non-starter even if true. Going to supposedly “outlawed” countries as a child, necessitating renunciation of citizenship? One mentioned, Pakistan, was not only okay to go to, they were a cold war ally of the U.S. at the time. Here’s a travel advisory for that time period: http://dosfan.lib.uic.edu/ERC/travel/cis/southasia/TA_Pakistan1981.pdf. Indonesia? I can’t find proof one way or the other, but he went to visit his mother, whom there is no record of citizenship renunciation in order for her to be there. And for the renunciation – there’s a whole lot one has to do, including personally swearing in front of a Consul or Ambassador. And you must be an adult to do it – even if you “renounced” as a minor, the statute specifically does not recognize it AT ALL and it is null and void unless one affirms it after turning 18. BTW, there is no record of Obama doing that, as a minor or otherwise.

Here’s a link to the law. I suggest you read it and become better informed. Look closely through Title III, chapters 1 and 3. They have the relevant passages.

BTW, for those of you hung up on the “Certificate of Live Birth” red-herring, I have a revelation. All three of my kids, born in two different states (WA and VA) have COLBs. The COLB IS a birth certificate, and it is proof of identity for everything, except in your mind.

When someone files a lawsuit the opposing party must respond or else they will be found in default. Spending 100s of thousands on attorneys’ fees to respond to frivolous lawsuits regarding his origin of birth is not indicative of him having something to hide. Obama was born in Hawaii, he is a “natural born citizen,” and is legitimately President of the United States. When the Pravda Media highlights Obama birth certificate conspiracy believers in order to make fun of them and bash conservatives or Republicans, the same Moderates who rejected the Republicans last time around read the rumor or see it on the tube. Sometimes the rumor gets put together with other disputes like Obama’s refusal to release his medical, school or work records or his passport stamps into and out of Pakistan. The Moderates get more of a “bad feeling” about him every time these things are mentioned. Every time the Pravda Media does it, it costs Obama a few more Moderate votes.

I say thank God for the birthers. They are getting fluff like Michelle Obama’s fashion sense and the twentieth replay of the Sarah Palin shopping spree lie off the front page. Birthers do not damage the nation, unlike the lefty’s favorite 9/11 conspiracies or the NYT’s treasonous leaks of top secret anti-terrorism programs. Birthers do not damage Republicans, for the Pravda Media already pulls out all the stops to slander Republicans. Birthers are, however, a distraction and disturbance to Obama and the Obamanistas.

I think that anything that bothers Prince “I Won” is good. At first he seems the picture of equanimity but I can see that these things bug him. He gets irritated. He’s never had anybody fight back against him. He’s spent his whole life as an enormously attractive man living in a universe of socialists and communists and getting freebies from equal opportunity, and now he’s President. Now that he’s made it to the top of the heap, it’s well past time for him to get treated equally with every other President we’ve had since LBJ.

It’s time for an unfair scandal to torment him and take some of the wind out of his sails.

shouldn’t we state our conclusions and move on and trust the American people to get it and factor it in?

It appears indisputable that Obama was born in Hawaii. There is no evidence that his mother ever voluntarily renounced her US citizenship. There is no likelihood that any investigator will uncover the original BC and even if they did, given that he was born in the US and given that BC’s don’t show the purported citizenship of the mother, and that the only likely “evidence” against Obama would be the absence of a father listed, that the only logical conclusion to be drawn would be that Obama was lied to most or all of his life of his true father and that the likelihood is that the true father was the man he hung with in Hawaii who was a US citizen

and that therefore the worst possible conclusion against Obama is that he found out late in life and AFTER his first book, the family secret that the Kenyan was not his father

and that such a result is actually sympathetic to Obama?

I think we all can agree that we were not told the truth about the circumstances surrounding 0′s birth, but that in itself is not what keeps the story alive; just like Watergate, it’s the cover up that the administration and the Democrat Party is up to it’s eyebrows in, that has now eclipsed the whole birth story.

It amuses me no end to see how they squirm and twist and bend over backward to undermine, discredit, and attack the story, just to avoid having to release one document. Their behavior is damaging them and they know it, but of course they can’t admit it. Instead, they attempt to divert attention away, they play party tricks hoping that the focus will shift away from the story, but it doesn’t, it grows and grows and soon, they will be pulling everyone they have in from other things just to fight this thing.

Why?

Because they know that the information contained in the real document (whatever it may be) will sink their ship. They are panicking and they are scrambling like mad trying to keep their ship afloat. This shows me that what they are hiding is worse for them even than what we have been speculating on up till now. Much worse. I believe I know what it is now, but I am not going to spill the beans here. If I am right, then just asking the right question will make the Democrat’s and media’s heads explode and the story will lead the next day in all the news outlets. The story will engulf them and the reaction to it might ignite a race war and politics as we know it would never be the same. But, the person and the organization that asks this explosive question is going to be the focus and the center of a world of dung. I like RedState, and I am just as a guest here, so I don’t want that world of dung to drop here first. But don’t worry, the question will get asked elsewhere where they are ready and willing to do battle with the Dems and the media and where they aren’t afraid of a little political fall out. Then we can do the blow by blow coverage here from ringside.

A photostat or a scan of the original historical document would have the same effect. That is likely what is contained in the file kept by the State that they are stonewalling on. So we will wait and see if that is released. If not, then since several states will have statutes enected by 2012 requiring a real BC before a candidate can appear on the ballot in that state, 0 will have to make a choice, either release the document, or don’t seek reelection. Either way, we have likely already won this battle. 0 will not have a second term. We now have 50% better odds of having a GOP President in 2012. Hurrah!

And if he decides to release it, then whatever comes out of it will be icing on the cake. Enjoy.

Confession of a birther

diakrioi (Diary) Tuesday, July 28th at 1:13PM EST (link)

Sort of. I never truly believed that there was any merit to the whole thing because I have always believed that since Obama’s mother was a US citizen by birth that he is also a US citizen whether he was born in Hawaii or Kenya. You can quote arcane law all you want to but this makes sense to me.

Furthermore, the issue is a loser. As others have stated, no court is going to remove a sitting president on a technicality like this. The meaning of natural born is murky at best – not something a judge would use for a decision so monumental. Get real.

But I confess, it has been fun to stir the birther pot occasionally and witness Obamamaniac heads explode when discussing the issue. Also, I’ve always had this feeling that there is *something* that the Obama camp is trying to hide so it might be worth keeping the birth certificate discussion open to see what comes of it.

But, the issue has been successfully rendered fringeworthy by Obama supporters and now is recognized as an embarrassing issue by conservative leaders. It is time to put away childish things and get on to serious issues. I can *see* how it’d be fun to pick up this issue. It’s sorta like how back in the day we on the front page of RS joked about his middle name.

But then when certain other groups of people picked up on it, it became less fun and more dangerous. So we stopped.

tankertodd (Diary) Tuesday, July 28th at 2:50PM EST (link)

As long as the Birther discussion is at the fore we can’t exploit our winning the healthcare debate. How odd that with Obama losing in the polls and with his healthcare plan on the ropes, that we suddenly hear more about this issue that has been in play for years.

More importantly, the Birthers rely on the same junk logic that the Global Warming people and Truthers use. It’s in everyone’s best interest that we expose bad logic and science wherever we find it. If our side needs to depend on these bad tools then it’s time to change sides. I think our arguments easily win the day, and indeed they are.

Suppose the whole thing could be proven and Obama had to step down… I think I’d rather keep Obama as prez than have Biden despite the comic relief he brings (he still does a fine job at that as VP). And in such a case, would Pelosi be VP? Even scarier. I think I’ve found a way to see the Obama Administration as not so bad.

Nominate a VP , both houses need majority

naraht Tuesday, July 28th at 4:23PM EST (link)

Its in the 25th amendment. Obama steps down, Biden takes the oath of office and sends a name to Congress, both houses (not just the senate) have to approve with Majority votes. It is exactly what Nixon did to get Ford as his VP after Agnew Resigned and Ford did with Rockefeller.

Pelosi would be next in line until such time as a VP was approved, but she would not automatically be VP.

It's the Citizenship, stupid!

hkowabunga Tuesday, July 28th at 1:35PM EST (link)

Mr. Stevens,

I think using the term “Birther” is below you. That stoops to the same level of labeling that the MSM used on those involved in the Tea Party movement.

I think you are sharper and more discriminating than that.

Those interested in this issue just want to know one thing. Does he meet the Constitutional requiements to hold the most powerful position in the world?

The NRO articile uses the same talking points that Gibbs uses and as long as the discussion keeps moving in a circular fashion, this issue will never be resolved.

Ask yourself a couple of questions.

1. Why is there a need to spend so much money preventing the release of the one document that could cause this whole thing to blow away like smoke in the wind?

2. Why are the Hawaiian officials words “parsed” so tightly? All Fukino has been willing to state is that the document has been seen and it contains the evidnence presented on the short form. Why not just confirm that all the information on the long form was viewed and that it meets the elegibility requirements? Why won’t anyone from Hawaii take that step?

3. Why are Obama’s college records locked up? What on earth could be so devastatingly harmful in school records?

Instead of running down those who have valid questions, why won’t you focus on finding out why the answers to those questions are so difficult to obtain?

How about some journalism?

Lingering non-birth questions...

azaeroprof (Diary) Tuesday, July 28th at 1:59PM EST (link)

I think the birth issue is moot. Obama’s mother was a citizen, so no matter where he was born, he is eligible. I would like to see those college records, though. That’s where I think the real embarrassing info is hidden. But it will be a cold day in h*ll before Obama releases that info. The only hope for that will come in 2012 if the GOP candidate does a full release.

The only thing I find interesting about the whole birth certificate thing is the conflicting stories out of Hawaii. Fukino has supposedly “seen the original document”, yet the state says the originals cannot be produced because they were destroyed in 2001. Why are they talking out of both sides of their mouths on this? At any rate, I suspect we’ll never know, but if the “birthers” had shut up on Nov. 8, these conflicting stories would have never been flushed out.

Better idea II

hkowabunga Tuesday, July 28th at 5:17PM EST (link)

Mr. Lane,

How about attacking from multiple directions?

Perhaps my comment on journalism wasn’t appropriate. If not, I apologize. I made the assumption that since news was being posted and opinions registered, that some level of journalism was taking place. If that does not fall under the heading of journalism, then I stand corrected.

Now, this citizenship issue, is just one symptom of what has happened to our country (i.e. an increased level of deceit in government) I agree that it shouldn’t be the sole focus of the Conservative movement. Conservatives need to break the stranglehold that’s currently going on in Congress to prevent further damage. That work will come one seat at a time and it won’t be easy. I think your thoughts on becoming more active in the process are right on. Many of us here in Texas are looking at how to make that happen.

However, this issue has not been decided yet, despite several months of protestations, on all sides, to the contrary.

Why is that? Are the growing numbers of people who are lining up behind this issue all crazy? Why did McCain’s citizenship issue just blow away, but Obama’s won’t?

This citizenship “conspiracy” would probably have died a quiet death if the road had forked in one of two directions:

1. The evidence that exists is revealed

2. No evidence exists

Unfortunately for those who do not like this issue, Door #3 keeps popping up and that is, the evidence exists, but it is being withheld.

Why?

No one has been able to answer that very simple question.

For all of the lamenting being done at RS about this subject, you just can’t leave it alone. You keep saying there are more important issues to be concerned about, which there are, but yet you keep dwelling on this “birthers” subject. All you are doing is drawing more attention to this issue. Just ignore it. Those internet sites that wish to continue this crusade can suffer the consequences. Time spent on this only takes away from a more substantive diary you could write about the health care bill, cap and trade, etc.

As you can see, it is fruitless to argue with some of these people, no matter the facts.

Dual citizenship is a non-issue, also.

Michael M. Keohane (Diary) Tuesday, July 28th at 1:54PM EST (link)

As Constitutional conservatives, the question of dual citizenship should never come up. It does not matter what other countries think or what laws they make. We are not bound by the laws of other countries. What we are bound by is our Constitution and our Laws.

For example, Germany, from Bismark through Hitler, considered German nationals and their desendants living abroad to still be Germans citizens. If Germany had won WWII, Eisenhower, being of German descent, would have been tried for treason.

The fact that other countries, under their laws, consider some American citizens to have dual nationality and offer them passports does not destroy those persons claim to be American citizens.

Since passports first began to be commonly used, they have been issued, in most countries, to persons other than citizens. Some of my relatives, born in this country of naturalized parents from Ireland, have Irish passports. This is completely legal and does not endanger their American citizenship. You can use a passport from another country to travel. It is a convience not a rejection of American citizenship.

If I understand BHO’s situation, as the child of a Kenyan father, he is considered, under Kenyan law, to be a Kenyan national. There is a possibility, that as a Kenyan national, he might be also entitled to a British passport as a Commonwealth member. Since he was adopted while living in Indonesia by an Indonesian national, under Indonesian law, he is considered an Indonesian citizen.

None of the above facts have any effect on his status as an American citizen. That status comes from his mother. She was an American citizen and his citizenship, under our Laws, derives from that fact.

Thre is nothing reported in BHO’s background that could possibily destroy his American citizenship. Not the laws of other countries, the acts of his parents, guardians or other persons can destroy that citizenship. The fact that BHO may have used another countries passport to travel does not endanger his citizenship.

Only BHO, once he reached his majority, could act to renounce his citizenship. That renuncation must be made in accordance with our laws. It must be made before an appropriate government official and in accordance with the legal requirements reguarding renunciation of citizenship. There has never been any showing that BHO has so acted. Dead issue, “birthers,” get another.

I really have a problem with how quick equivalence with the John Birch society has been advocated

Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Tuesday, July 28th at 2:06PM EST (link)

I got really pissed last night when Jon Henke started spouting off on Twitter about the need to “exorcise these Birthers like Buckley did to the Birchers, they are an embarrassment to the party!”

Look I know both “Birthers” and members of the John Birch society. My wife is a bit of a borderline Birther, but if I was a member of the John Birch society, I’d have a hard time keeping my job with a Defense contractor.

There is a legitimate item of curiosity, which is why is Obama fighting so hard against releasing information? Does it mean he isn’t a citizen or eligible to be President? Of course not, but it does make me curious.

But I swear, some of our elites are picking up the pitchforks and lighting the torches to drive the heathens from the party. I haven’t seen this much undeserved righteous indignation since the Stevens conviction.

I really think the comparison the Birchers is uncalled for.

Indeed, I, too, suspect that there’s something in Obama’s record that may reflect badly on him. Birthers, OTOH, are making conclusions based on a lack of evidence, and not actual evidence. Indeed, the points they have brought up have been thoroughly debunked, as NRO’s summary illustrates. To me, the position that birthers hold, no matter how nice or normal or charming they are as individuals, are only marginally better truthers, the “every vote counts” crowd, and the idiots who insisted that the Palin baby story was true.

There is a palpable double standard at work here, where Republicans are required to provide links to an extensive paper trail, while dems are simply taken at their word, or the word of a party affiliate or media acolyte.

This applies to school records, theses, income tax info, donor lists, etc. etc., as well as birth records.

obama has shown no reluctance whatsoever to repeatedly stand up in front of the American people and tell bald-faced lies. So, his credibility is naturally wanting with regard to his past.

and his later records from school, private employment and government service may not agree with what he has been claiming about himself. However, being embarrassed has never stopped either a Liberal nor a politician. Take a look at what voters have accepted in the past from Liberals and politicians, especially Democrats. So wht if his mother put “Moslem” down as his religion on the birth certificate or that he claimed Indonesian citizenship to get a scholarship grant. Not sufficient “high crimes or misdeameanors” material for impeachment and Leno, Letterman and the other comics will not touch the material so few people, other than Internet regulrs, will ever hear about it. I have been convinced that Obama meets the definition of a natural born citizen for some time. I owe his tap dance to the possibility that there is some embarrassing, but not disqualifying, information in his background. Do we really want to delve into matters over which Obama had no control? He did not pick his parents. There has been a discussion on this thread about whether Frank Davis could have been his father. We already know that all of his mentors were communists, so what difference does parentage make in these circumstances? Let’s stick to the fact that he is a self made bastard, notwithstanding a potential accident of birth. Plumbing these depths should be left to the Andrew Sullivans of the world.

The director of Hawaii’s health department and the registrar of records each has personally verified that the information on Obama’s birth certificate is identical to that in the state’s records, the so-called vault copy. Given that fact, we are loath even to engage the fanciful notion that President Obama was born elsewhere

I’m inclined to go along with that.

Cleared up everything but one for me.

Where the heck did the story come from that Obama had convinced the Governor of Hawaii to deny access to his BC? What was that all about, and who started it? None other than Jerome Corsi, of Unfit for Command fame, writing on World Net Daily.

Countering, WhatReallyHappened.com published the rebuttal from the Office of the Governor.

It’s too bad that the “serious” media have chosen to treat the questions as not serious. The idea that state law prevents anybody without a tangible interest from seeing or accessing the original ends the matter, and therefore a FOIA request would be denied (and therefore none has been requested) seems odd to me. (I would also guess that WND has had a FOIA request rejected, but WND is not yet serious media, is it?) Considering the grvity of the question, the press would seeem to have as tangible an interest as anybody could. Instead, all stories seem to concentrate on insinuating that “birthers” (a term of endearment if I ever heard one) are either foolish, stupid, Quixotic, or drunk. All may be possible, but it has a feeling of piling on after a while.

So, other than my natural antipathy to the SCUM, I’m cool with President Barack Obama.

Should the Hondurans be cool with President Zelaya? President Obama says, “yes.”

Unfortunately I believe he is a US Citizen, & I hope he only has ONE TERM! However, as a Naturalized Citizen and a Veteran I believe the Natural Born Citizen qualification is paramount, plus do we really want a President Schwarzenegger? Not thanks on that.

That being said I really don’t think that Obama when he took his oath of office he seriously believes in supporting & defending the Constitution, nor do any of his cronies. The guy does not believe he represents a great nation, nor does he believe in liberty you only have to look how he has botched Honduras, and his response to the students in Iran, but wait he beat Al Sharpton to the punch over a statement about Michael Jackson dying.

Obama could silence his critics by releasing all of his sealed records, end of story. He has something really embarrassing that he does not want to ever see the light of day. Where there is smoke there is usually fire, & spending large sums of money to keep them sealed only fuels the rumors and speculation. All he has to do is release all pertinent documentation with say SSN redacted, but other than that he is a public official

My main concern in all of this is those military personnel that are being brought into the controversy by becoming plaintiffs in these lawsuits. They believe in their oath in most cases, I really believe that, although misguided. There is a chain of command

The Left in this country tries to make victims of the military now that we have a volunteer force instead of primarily conscripts as it was prior to 1975. They thought that an all volunteer force would limit the projection of US power abroad, now they try to drive the message that the military is the last hope for the destitute when it is the farthest from the truth. They despise the fact that we have the premier fighting forces in the world. All volunteer, proud of their nation & what they do for their nation.

If the left can discredit these people & by default the most revered government institute our as untrustworthy with all these suits then it will be only lead to the demoralization of the military.

By birther logic, Herbert Hoover should never have been president, then, because his mother was Canadian.

This constant “show the long form…” argument detracts from the real issues to be faced, like socialized medicine, the Sotomayor coronation and trillion dollar deficits. Independent voters see mainstream republicans in this same light, and it weakens the movement as a whole. Why not argue against the moon landing as well?

The fact remains that he is, and will stay, #44. Positive action to bring about change is required; hunting down bogeymen only drives the curious and the wanting straight into the opponent’s hands.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. Or, for you birthers, the analogy could very well be hitting your head repeatedly against a wall and wondering where all the blood came from. By making the problem about you, you defeat the very party you claim to support.
