There are already $Billions in the Porkulus that are being funnelled to liberal states like California that just can't seem to help themselves when it comes to controlling government spending. Others that come to mind are vote rich New York, New Jersey, Illinois, etc.

Obama and Congress will end up bailing these states out. The price tag? Just like with the banks, it will be the feds calling the shots. They will own these states and our constitution will have been destroyed. I have no sympathy for the greedy, grubby people Californians and other Americans have become. Voting for handouts at the expense of freedom is despicable.

Whether the MSM's "blindness" is a conspiracy, wishful thinking, or a focus on the rearview mirror, it is focusing on the weeding out of individuals.

What the MSM is not recognizing is that the conservative and movement is getting stronger and more determined. Of course, I'm sure the buggy whip industry had its proponents back in the early days of the automobile. As long as the movement and message stays true to conservative principles, leaders will emerge.

Now that these measures failed, the only thing left for CA to do is turn to the Savior and get a bailout. They will take the choice away from the citizens of that state because obviously they don't understand enough to know what's good for them. The legislators can't (won't) make any cuts. Just watch for the O to step in and "save" California. Then it will be Michigan, Ohio, and on and on until there are no more "states". The problem is the laws of CA. They aren't allowed to raise taxes like they want to.

"Chris Lehane, a Democratic party strategist and former press adviser to Al Gore, said the special election “really underscores that California state government is so structurally flawed that it is ungovernable”.

The state government is continually deadlocked because legislators in need a two thirds majority to raise new taxes. “There is no clearer sign of how these structural issues…have hurt California then by looking at the state’s public education system, which has gone from first to worst in a generation,” he added."

Isn't it ironic that Reagan was governor a generation ago?

Republicans stood firm, Pawlenty threatened a veto of new taxes and more state spending.

MN has a law that limits the legislative session and another that requires a balanced budget. The Dems drew a line in the sand on spending, programs and taxes with a big backhoe and passed a budget that made all three go way up. Pawlenty waited until the last minute of the last day and vetoed it. The law now gives Pawlenty the ability to <I>impose</I> a budget on the state with no vote and not even a review by the State Legislature.

Keep in mind that MN is a very liberal state (like CA) and the Republicans in the state can best be described as squishy, Collins/Snowe lookalikes who like conflict about as much as GWB. Including Pawlenty. (See CA)

These people are "moderates". Yet they stood up and won one for The Gipper.

they only vote down measures like this when they are feeling real pain from the bad economy. (It doesn't help matters that you have a big stinking liberal as governor who calls himself a republican).

Just as soon as things improve they will go back to voting for more big government that they can't pay for. Like a dog returning to it's own vomit.

Of course they might stay on the straight and narrow a little bit longer if there were real conservative (or at least libertarian) leadership coming from a consistent and articulate Republican party, constantly explaining to them that the government is not their friend.

But in order to do that the Republican party has to be filled with actual conservatives.

All but 1b were rejected in EVERY COUNTY (with Los Angles coming in unexpectedly strong against them).

1b Passed by less than 5% in Santa Clara, San Francisco, and Alameda Counties, and was rejected everywhere else.

All got less than 40% support statewide.

Meanwhile, 1f Passed with 75% of the vote everywhere.

I understand the GOP is planning on being the the party of 'new ideas' sometime in the next few years. I was wondering if maybe George Soros is paying their salaries. (I understand it's my responsibility to build the party). I heard yet another GOP wimp on the radio tonight, an interview with a longtime functionary, speechwriter, etc. Mark something on Steve Malzberg's show. His main point was that whew, wow, it's really tough to do or say anything right now because Obama is so popular. Says the GOP will get things going in a few years. But was quite clear and concise on matters about which the GOP should praise Obama. While I'm joining the cavalry, I'd like to offer a free idea to the GOP that has nothing to do with social conservatives. Stop saying how popular Obama is. Unless of course you're working for him. He's killing us and all these guys can do is say golly it's so tough. Malzberg played audio of Megan McCain being a disgrace and a tragedy and the GOP guy wouldn't say one word against what she said. He reluctantly said something like the media really shouldn't be putting people such as Ms. McCain in the spotlight. So, Obama is popular and we are defenseless against Megan McCain. I can only conclude Soros is funding the GOP.

If there was ANY day to be camped out with all the Tea Party gear it was today in CA... people should have drove in from the surrounding States..... It would have made for some great potential momentum and FOXnews imagery.

And let's not forget about going forward....

Plan to attend a <b>TEApeat</b> July 4, 9/12, Thanksgiving, etc...

The Governator greatly upset me (over many things many times, but really really so this time) with his sounding like Democrats [I expect these extortion tactics from them, we're getting it here in MI with Gran(munist)holm] and going on about how Police, Fire, Garbage service, School days shortened, etc.... will all have to be cut .... it is ALL BS in an attempt to EXTORT Tax increases from the citizens and ward off actual and real Fiscally-responsible Cuts/Reductions in so many wasteful Govt agencies.....

As an aside, and in using the same tactics to avoid legislation against Credit Card rule regulation changes, Banks are THREATENING (Extortion tactics) to raise the Annual Fees, Cut peoples lines of Credit, saying you won't get your free toaster, no more Frequent Flyer Miles programs, and on and on and on, in order to forestall any crackdown on their pathetic APR games they play!!! This is NOT Government spending programs, so even if they do raise some fees not capped by new regulations and drop some incentive programs.... THEY WILL GO BACK LATER..... It's called competition..... They will again fight each other for your business, don't be fooled by this short term changes they will impose to EXTORT your support for their right to rip-off your fellow citizens in APR, and other, fine print! They can and DO make money behind the transactions in fees charged to Merchants for equipment and in per transaction hold-back.

Back to the main point... Governator, you should be ashamed of yourself. This was/is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY for you to DECLARE VICTORY FOR YOUR ORIGINAL DAYS AS GOVERNOR AND WANTING CUTS!!!!! The citizens are speaking and saying you must make cuts.... If you would have held the line on the Conservative ideals, you would have had the moral high-ground, but you pissed it away by taking the EXTORTION low-road and sounding like your wife... er.... Democrats.....

When the Taxes are voted down... you have all the proof you need that citizens in even the most Liberal CA - DEMAND CUTS AND A SENSIBLE BUDGET - FOR A CHANGE!!!!!!

They tried to phrase 1A in a way that would gain support from the Right and Left by balancing more taxes with a weak spending cap.

Instead they alienated both sides and ended up fighting an impossible war on two fronts, The 1C-1E went down because people realized the violation of process in this stealing money from restricted funds.

Big loser - the education unions, who were offered IB in result for their big bucks support. That horse trade went down in flames too.

So now the legislature has got to do its job - only it's several more wasted months and now faces a "sinkhole that swallowed LA" size deficit. Not going to be fun.

We know that the left is going to try to repeal the 2/3rds budget provision in the next election.

But in the meanwhile, the voters have put an end to the latest budgetary mischief.
