Administration: Obama’s Iran diplomacy plan is going to fail

During his Presidential campaign, Barack Obama famously promised direct diplomacy with Iran, going as far as to say he will meet Iranian leaders without preconditions of any kind. Even as Iranian-funded and -armed forces in Iraq were bombing civilians and shooting at American troops, he promised to meet with their leaders. We’re not at war with Eurasia, and absolutely should not start one.

As he told NPR:

Oh, we have to deal with the role of Iran. The question is whether we deal with Iran through saber-rattling, or whether we deal with Iran by direct diplomatic engagement. The key for us is to engage in the sort of direct talks that we engaged in, by the way, when Iran cooperated with us in dealing with the Taliban in Afghanistan. It’s that sort of direct engagement that this president has been unwilling to do, but under an Obama administration would be, I think a top priority.

It’s all just words, of course, because the statements made by Secretary Clinton make it clear that Obama sees no chance of success for this plan against Iran’s nuclear program.

See for yourself. That is the only logical conclusion to come from statements made by Clinton today, on the US plan to build missile defense projects in eastern Europe:

“If we are able to see a change in behavior on the part of the Iranians with respect to what we believe to be their pursuit of nuclear weapons … then … we will reconsider where we stand,” Clinton said at a news conference with visiting Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg.

“But we are a long, long way from seeing such evidence of any behavior change,” Clinton said, stressing the deterrent effect from a missile shield.

Talk isn’t going to work, so we need to keep on “saber rattling,” just like President Bush.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Hope and Change! Now give money to Organizing for America before Eurasia wins the war, because we’ve been at war with Eurasia for a long time, and always will be.

It's not even diplomacy - just talking

Diplomacy requires some minimal level of strategic and tactical skill, both of which appear absent in the new administration.

How do you say "boom" in Persian?

NeoKong (Diary) Wednesday, February 11th at 11:05PM EST (link)

Iran will build their nuke and Obama can’t stop them.Iet’s hope Israel can.
Obama and his state department are under the impression that Iran has a desire for friendly relations with the U.S.
Heaven knows what gave them that impression.
Was it the killing of U.S. soldiers in Iraq?
Is it their nuke program?
Is it the death chants towards the USA perhaps?
Could it be their desire to wipe U.S.ally Israel off the map?

What could it be…?
Iran will eat Obama and Hillary for lunch.

??? ????.

Apparently that’s “boom” in Farsi.

I think the literal English translation comes out as “Sand To Glass”.

Nope, didn't work. Oh well. nt

It's the thought that counts.

Hillary is going to be Obama's water carrier

CarlSchurz (Diary) Wednesday, February 11th at 11:17PM EST (link)

When Obama screws up foreign policy wise, Hillary will be wiping his mess up. She is pro-Israel, staunchly so.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

And Samantha Power is on her team as a top advisor.

Israel is going to be completely on her own in a very short time.

If Hillary is Obama's water carrier perhaps she can toss some on Helen Thomas...

Elizabeth Christian (Diary) Wednesday, February 11th at 11:23PM EST (link)

you would have had to have seen Oreilly tonight or I guess last night to know what I am talking about – he said she SOUNDED like the wicked witch of the East and if he were Obama he would toss water on her and watch her melt – he was slammed by the far left crazy folks – they called him sexist and “ageist” (discriminating against her age) – I am a woman and thought it was funny. The lady that works for Jane Fonda and moveon.org came on there and said Oreilly was talking about how Helen Thomas looks (I guess the far left thinks this woman looks like a witch)???

Yeah. And that would matter if Hillary

had any principles. As we know, however, she is corrupt and stupid. Obama figured out what her price was — a glamorous job, a great title, lots of travel, lots of high-level attention, money, a way out of the dead-end Senate (where she was going nowhere).

Control of the State dept is slipping away from Hillary. As we know from her Presidential campaign, she’s a terrible manager and, as I said, not very smart. She has already lost the marquee portfolios –

israel/Palestine – george Mitchell
Iran – Dennis Ross
Pakistan and Afghanistan – Richard Holbrook(Holbrooke has also placed one of his bots as Ambassadoe to Iraq – a key position, so he controls that as well)

what hillary has is a cabinet position for the rest of the Obama Administration, as long as she plays along. The idea that she will make or shape policy, on Israel or anything else, is farcical. Policy will be made in the NSC and the White House.
