Hope everyone caught Bobby Jindal on Greta Van Susteran Thursday night and Sarah Palin on Friday before the Republican Governors Association.

These two get it: that voters are looking for what Sarahcuda called “smaller, smarter government” … professionally run government with real solutions to people’s needs.

Whether he can fulfill it or not, Obama offered tax cuts to 95 percent of Americans, cheaper and better health care, investments in alternative energy, even a strong military. McCain offered: Joe the Plumber?

Jindal spoke of conservatives having the solutions to the problems the American people are facing every day. He talked about Washington’s corruption, its failure to address the issues. He focused on the six tax cuts he has delivered in Louisiana, about reform freeing up funds for programs that meet real needs.

Palin echoed many of the same themes. She spoke of the addiction to O-P-M … other people’s money … and introducing personal responsibility into the debate about the bailout (or as I now call it, the “bail and switch). She pointed to the transparency efforts afoot at the state level. She encouraged the GOP not to become the negative party, and promised on her behalf and that of her fellow Republican governors to take the lead in offering solutions to “taxes and energy and health care, immigration, education” at the state level.

I’m hoping the young, bright leaders emerging among House Republicans will be equally aggressive in promoting an agenda.

It’s a great time to be a conservative Republican. The Party is ours again, with the ueberappropriators out or on the run, and with an opportunity to forward an aggressive, “smaller-but-smarter” government agenda.

How do you answer 'emotional reasoning'?

panthera (Diary) Saturday, November 15th at 5:57PM EST (link)

I hate when I’m discussing politics and the other person argues with emotion, like

“why cant gay people have the same rights as straight people” (gay marriage)

etc

Just curious =D

FASCISM:

NAZISM:
You have two cows. State takes both of them and shoot you.

BUREAUCRACY:
You have two cows. State takes both of them, kills one and spills the milk down the drain.

DEMOCRAT / SOCIALIST (Same thing these days…)
You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. You feel guilty for being successful. The government takes one

REPUBLICAN
You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. So what?

COMMUNIST
You have two cows. The government seizes both and provides you with milk. You wait in line for hours to get it.
It is expensive and sour.

CAPITALISM, AMERICAN STYLE
You have two cows. You sell one, buy a bull, and build a herd of cows.

FRENCH CORPORATION
You have two cows. You go on strike because you want three cows. You go to lunch and drink wine. Life is
good.

TALIBAN CORPORATION
You have all the cows in Afghanistan, which are two. You don’t milk them because you cannot touch any
creature’s private parts. Then you kill them and claim a US bomb blew them up while they were in the hospital.

IRAQI CORPORATION
You have two cows. They go into hiding. They send radio tapes of their mooing.

Thus, I don’t waste any time in arguing with lefties. AFAIAC, they are “unsaveable”, and I don’t waste my time with them. (The one exception to that may be a young leftie, and those you might be able to win over with carefully crafted arguments…)

Basically, with lefties, you just have to plan on going around them. Trying to “convert” them, or “win them over on the strength of the argument” is hopeless. Some of them will realize the errors of their ways once they’ve accumulated some life experience (and you see some of those around this site!), but many of them will cling to their idiotic beliefs no matter how many times they are shown to be fallacious (or even dangerous).

You’ll have better luck trying to “convince”/”argue” your points with more truly open-minded moderates and independents, and trying to win them over to the cause.

Unfortunately,

and they are perfectly entitled to their right to assemble and voice their opinion. I just don’t think they’re taking the right approach.

a) I vehemently oppose the right for those of the same sex to “marry.”
b) I think they’d be a heck of a lot more likely to succeed if they’d pursue civil unions (which I also oppose, but many Americans do not).

They can keep up their “in your face” strategy, and it will backfire. If they would just be intelligent about it, I think they would have a fair chance of success. My point behind drawing the parallel with the Hispanic rallies is that tactics like that generally do not set well with the general public.

Italian macaroni and peas;
- First, skip the homemade pasta and get a good Italian import (homemade takes too long) like Dececco, Vitelli, etc.

  • Get the pasta cooking (one pound, ditalini)

  • Fill the bottom of a 10′ saucepan with olive oil, heat and add a clove of garlic and about 1/2 cup chopped onion. simmer.

  • Add two cans of peas (keep heat down just warming peas)

  • Once the peas are warmed, mix with finished pasta in ceramic bowl

  • Top with pepper (hot if you like) and Pecorino Romano cheese

  • Break out the Barolo or Chianti

Enjoy

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

People DO want the things outlined by Palin and Jindal. The problem is that there hasn’t been an effective communicator of our principles for at least a decade.

My one big complaint about W is his silence in the face of criticism. His obsession with the “New Tone” has prevented any principled counterattack on the lefty lies.

While I do tend to agree that our message can be spread with courtesy and respect for all, sometimes one has to bare the fangs, so to speak.

I worry about the consequences of a GOP that refuses to fight for what’s right. If the centrist (wimp) wing of the party doesn’t stamp out the corruption, and ‘spam’ the message to the voters nationwide, conservatism will be in the shadows for a generation.

Really… how many years of endless Fires is it going to take?

Yes, we know there have been some big-blunders in the name of managing them. CA is always big of Big Govt., shouldn’t they be working on huge projects to move water around to prevent these things?

Of course, it is not just CA but I think you know why I’ve singled them out. Add in occasional wind as well as huge developments, and you’ve got yourself a home-made disaster.

“THE WAR IS OVER AND WE WON:” Michael Yon just phoned from Baghdad, and reports that things are much better than he had expected, and he had expected things to be good. “There’s nothing going on. I’m with the 10th Mountain Division, and about half of the guys I’m with haven’t fired their weapons on this tour and they’ve been here eight months. And the place we’re at, South Baghdad, used to be one of the worst places in Iraq. And now there’s nothing going on. I’ve been walking my feet off and haven’t seen anything. I’ve been asking Iraqis, ‘do you think the violence will kick up again,’ but even the Iraqi journalists are sounding optimistic now and they’re usually dour.” There’s a little bit of violence here and there, but nothing that’s a threat to the general situation. Plus, not only the Iraqi Army, but even the National Police are well thought of by the populace. Training from U.S. toops has paid off, he says, in building a rapport…

UPDATE: Rand Simberg: “No thanks to the Democrats, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who tried to keep it from happening. I see that they still can’t bring themselves to utter the word ‘win’ with respect to the war. They continue to talk about ‘ending’ it. Well, it looks like George Bush did that for them, and he won it as well.”

MORE: Yon emails this correction: “Actually, NONE of them have fired their weapons in combat during this tour, and about half of them are combat veterans from Afghanistan and/or Iraq.” Sorry, I had misunderstood that bit.

“Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.”

Good Evening to All RSer’s.
You have seen some of my post hitting in a variety of topics here @ RS.
I would like to introduce you to a man among men.
Through his INCREDIBLE leadership as my last Commanding Officer at sea, he allowed to be forge within me a string love of my Naval service. Our mission, when we left on 9/18/01, was cloaked in secrecy, but there would be no doubt that we were going to the heart of the beast.
This man empowered EVERY crewmember who served under him, personal accountability was a hallmark of his style. AS ling as you lived up to your responsibility to him, his loyalty was insurmaountable. Whoa be unto the sailor who crossed him. He promised that anyone who couldn’t live up to his high expectations would find them selves reassigned to other floating vessels in areas quite distant, and guaranteed more hostile. Only tow took him up on his offer. Never heard from them again.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Please I invite you to closely listen to the great greyhaired man in the flight suit. A truer patriot you may come across only once in your life. I had the honor of serving on his ship for 7 months. We returned home victorious in EVERY mission we ran. We invented new warfare, and to his greatsest promise, He brought home EVERY sailor and Marine that he left with. Our ship suffered NO combat losses, sure a few were injured, but WE ALL CAME HOME safe.
(I am not using names on purpose. I believe he is still on active duty, and the ship is still a major combatant vessel that will continue to serve as the TIP of the SPEAR.
Enjoy

This issue will show us whether Rahm Emanual is more petty-vengeful or pragmatic.

Actually, we’ll be LUCKY if the ’94 AWB is ALL we get. Losing the flash suppressors off a short list of guns sounds hella better than what they’ve got planned for this time, which will include complete bans of whole classes of guns, registration of surviving examples and licensing of all gun owners. To hell with all that!

There are millions more of these guns around now than there were in 1994, and millions more owners of them. The ban might not go through this time–let’s hope.

Nailed it. :)

We are now approaching 2,000 members. We are attempting to form as large a membership as possible in order to form the basis of a grassroots organization in support of Gov. Jindal. As our membership increases we will be suggesting concrete measures which you can personally do to help Jindal get the GOP nomination.

Be able to support your position(s)

Marie2 Sunday, November 16th at 12:28AM EST (link)

If you hold to a certain position, you should be able to articulate why. Otherwise, why do you hold to it, I wonder?

For instance, as to why gays can’t have equal rights, I’d respond:

“They do have equal rights under the law. Marriage, however, is not a right, it is a privilege.

There are many reasons that marriage is a special institution. From the dawn of human civilization, through all cultures and religions, marriage has been male/female. It is the building block of society and should not be tampered with.

A gay man or woman, or a polygamist, or a man in love with his cell phone, or his dog, does not deserve the civil acknowledgement of the government in order to pursue his or her sexual interest. A married man and woman do, because they, as a group, are the ones creating, rearing, and protecting the next generation.

The few bizarre situations where gay/lesbian woman are rearing children (ALL of whom were creating by male/female interaction, whether in a test tube or whatever) are not in the children’s best interest and have been proven to not be so.

Children turn out best by objective standards when reared in traditional two parent households. Both boys and girls need moms and dads.

Anything that undermines that ideal institution, whether easy divorce, casual acceptance of fornication, or redefinitions aimed at destroying any meaning in the word “marriage,” should be rejected.

In addition, enshrining gay marriage in law makes adherents to the major religions of the world susceptible to civil rights suits – as witnessed by Catholic charities being shut down because they wouldn’t place kids in homo households, Christian wedding photographers being sued (and losing) for refusing to photograph homo weddings, and churches being prevented from renting their sanctuaries to any couples if they didn’t rent to homo couples.

Furthermore, as the homo agenda gets accepted, the majority of us who perceive of homosexuality as a perversion, not a legitimate lifestyle, find that our children need be just about cloistered in order to avoid what we believe to be perverts attempting to indoctrinate our children. This happens through our laws, our libraries, our public schools. . . it permeates all of culture.

Oh it did have an effect.

I could get around and get into places much easier. Nothing else.

People still made the same amount of money that they did with out them.

Call me what you want, just don’t call me late for dinner.

Help Please! How to correct spelling...

in a comment or post? Thank you!

You can't edit comments.

mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, November 16th at 1:38PM EST (link)

You can edit a diary, there’s an “Edit” button on the top right side of the diary when you read your own stuff. Press that and you are in edit mode.

I would suggest using Firefox. It spell checks as you type and you get a red underline on misspelled words. I think IE6 has a spell checker as well.

Rats! (but thanks) n/t

can't a guy just watch a football game?

Doc Holliday (Diary) Sunday, November 16th at 8:13PM EST (link)

without having to see that smarmy idiot Kieth Olbermann? Without having the highlights interspersed with announces talking about how they have made their lives more green? And now Faith Hill is going to sing using a megaphone because it is more eco-friendly than a microphone? Well at least they stopped using the Ditzy Chicks.

My point is this, GE and NBC suck.

I have a few relatives and friends out there, but…

Really to the point where I wish (ALL OF) it would burn to a crisp, then quake for 30 days straight, then rain 40 days/nights straight. Then, maybe then, the ground might/would finally be loose enough for it to break apart at the fault lines and some of it slide into the ocean.

That would, of course, somehow be George Bush’s fault. Couldn’t possibly be wrath of God, or as Sharon Stone suggested about China earthquake a sense of “Karma” (one statement out her mouth I could sort-of agree with).

After all that… they still wouldn’t manage the land… Try and impose even stricter Enviro-Terrorist policies despite any Warming having eased.

We’ve talked about Carter and the 70′s returning… We’ll be discussing a RETURN OF THE ICE AGE soon, like we had shoved done our throats back then.

Ugh… RANT OVER…

It has quite a lot of merit. But it would send a huge message to the MSM if Conservative leaders (not the moderate wimps) would all boycott the talk shows, and bypass any network with flamingly obvious bias. There are ways around the media, such as taking a leaf from “The O”, and H. Ross Perot; weekly infomercials dealing with pressing matters of the day, run perhaps after the big Sunday game? Such a move would leave the editorial boards at the networks foaming, because they can’t control the content, and have to broadcats what has been paid for.

Then again, might not work; just one of many ideas that, hopefully, smarter people than I could implement.

big jumps

mom2oneson (Diary) Monday, November 17th at 2:42AM EST (link)

Are there usually big jumps in the argument when liberals are presenting problems and solutions? We had an article in our local paper first alerting us to the county’s literacy ranking. Here is the jump. She blames the county’s economic crisis on preschools not providing the children with quality experiences.
There were no solutions presented that actually made sense to improve the literacy rate like tutoring school age children or changing the method of reading instruction. One solution was in-home screening of parents after the birth of a child.

Is this how they usually present things?

Moe and Neil - Is there a reason I leave a comment on that 2010 FP post?

I’d really like to comment on it, but there is no comment box when I open up the article. All the other front page items have comment boxes.
