ever think: wouldn't it be great if we all moved

RborisT (Diary) Thursday, November 13th at 3:01AM EST (link)

to one state (a real red one) and sorta, took over?

(I’m up late, thought I’d take a wack, Neil)

There’s lots of good reasons why it’s probably a bad idea, though none come to mind directly, and after all, it’s such a pleasant thought.

First thing, we could have a big barbecue in the park, and all thumb our noses at the feds, cause we’re running this State now, and we don’t need nothing from you!

I must admit the thought has crossed my mind a few times, and when people bring it up as an idea, it’s kinda hard to really argue. It just feels like things would be a whole lot simpler!

Whatcha think?

Couple of similar projects

Christian Exodus
or the FreeStateProject if your leanings are more libertarian. Both projects aimed to move a group of like minded people to a state to influence the politics of the state (South Carolina or New Hampshire respectively). Neither seems to have been particularly successful as of yet.

Now in Sierra Vista. I’m hot sweaty and its mear freezing outside, got to love Army barracks management.

Rboris, I thought about that too. I would propose Georgia or Florida for that purpose… mainly because I’m from Georgia and I need water. If I was a militia type secessionist I would not fair so well in places like Missouri or Michigan.

So our Red State needs to be near the water

Also has anyone heard that Kevin Smith (aKa “Silent Bob” is making a movies called Red State. My own description wouldn’t do it justice, you have to read this plot

Oklahoma anyone?

yeah, the free state project

Doc Holliday (Diary) Thursday, November 13th at 3:49AM EST (link)

is pretty well known. But has not made the impact it was supposed to do. Most people just can’t find a reason to uproot their lives for political reasons. But with the changing job world, based on the internet, this could actually become more feasible. It would be nice if more people could work from home, I know it has helped many small towns from losing everyone.

we would have to split the state between 2.o lovers and 3.0 adherents :) Then we would have to partition each half in to fiscon, defensecon, socon, libertarian-con, neo-con, paleo-con, troll, and Moby sections. Of course the Directors would live on top of the highest peak lol

Shelby to Seek Reelection

Sen. Richard Shelby is seeking reelection and should win easily. It’s not earth-shattering, but at this point any seat that’s not in any jeopardy is a relief.

Fellow Business Executives:

As the CFO of this business that employees 140 people, I have resigned
myself to the fact that Barrack Obama will be our next President, and that
our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way.

To compensate for these increases, I figure that the Clients will have to
see an increase in our fees to them of about 8% but since we cannot increase
our fees right now due to the dismal state of our economy, wewill have to
lay off six of our employees instead. This has really been eating at me for
a while, as we believe we are family here and I didn’t know how to choose
who will have to go.

So, this is what I did. I strolled thru our parking lot and found 8 Obama
bumper stickers on our employees’ cars and have decided these folks will be
the first to be laid off. I can’t think of a more fair way to approach this
problem. These folks wanted change; I gave it to them.

If you have a better idea, let me know

Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.

Hey Doc,

John_Wayne (Diary) Thursday, November 13th at 10:58AM EST (link)

I’m hoping to move up your way soon. I’m in Georgia, but the fact is that Atlanta, our state’s center of political gravity, has been overrun by leftists. My oldest son already lives in Boise. If all goes well, I may be moving in a month or so. I’ll probably try and keep my home in Georgia so I can visit from time to time and stock up on the southern food I miss so much when I don’t live down here.

I think it was much easier to live with like-minded folks before our population grew so large. I would love to live in a place where conservative values were the norm and not the exception. I am a native of Georgia. I can tell you that things down here have changed a lot in my lifetime. The south is not what it used to be. There are still a lot of great people to be found, but the sad truth is that Yankee liberals fleeing the high tax rates of the northeast (ironic that they supported big government and the high taxes that go with it) have invaded the south in numbers that would make General Sherman envious.

That seems a bit…strange to me, particularly since you haven’t yet seen any tax increases, but it’s your business and I don’t know of any law that prevents you from systematically firing employees who don’t vote according to your preferences. Good luck to you.

While no one wants to be in the trenches fighting the local battles” is a saying I hear often here in the corporate world.
I think it applies many times to conservative blog sites. There is much discussion about who are the frontrunners for ’12 and what our ‘message’ will be. And debates of social vs. fiscal conservatism.
All of these philsopical discussions are nice but while we are talking the liberals are mobilizing for the next election. There will be many municipal elections in 2009 and of course in 2010 there will be Congressional, State House, and some Gubernatorial elections. What are we doing to mobilize for those?
How many of us are helping to either run for office or recruit quality candidates? How many of us are volunteering for phone banks and canvassing door to door in the precincts? How many of us will stuff envelopes and hand out literature in front of supermakets and trains stations? How many of us will place ground and pole signs in our districts?

If we keep talking without taking action we will continue to lose seats across the board.

Pardon the question

I’m not sure how firing people one views as family based on their electoral preferences is what I’d call fair, but whatever.

Why did we lose so bad?

John_Wayne (Diary) Thursday, November 13th at 11:52AM EST (link)

I want to start by saying that I voted for President Bush twice, and support most of his decisions. I do think, however, that a lot of our current problems as a party can be laid at his feet. He entered the office promising a new tone in Washington. I applaud his desire, but once it became evident that the Democrats were out for his hide, he should have taken off the gloves. Here are a couple of things he could have done:

The first indication of the troubles to come was in the 2000 election fiasco in Florida. Once he took office, he should have appointed a bipartisan panel to readdress the issues in the FL vote count. He should have demanded that the panel recount the entire state, not just a few counties. He should have told the American people that if the panel discovered that Gore should have won that he would resign and allow Gore to take his rightful place as President. He should have demanded that all legitimate votes be counted including the military members’ absentee ballots that were thrown out. He could have easily proved he was the rightful President and diffused the issue for good.

Once Iraq was defeated, and it was apparent that the WMDs were not being found, he should have, based on the intelligence reports, demanded that Syria come clean. If they willingly acknowledged the WMDs were sent to their country, we would take them and destroy them. If they said that they didn’t have them, he should have demanded that inspectors be allowed to verify that they weren’t there. If Syria did not cooperate, he should have sent troops in to force the issue. He should have addressed the American people and told them that there was good evidence that Syria had received the weapons during the period prior to the war when was trying to make Saddam let the inspectors back in to do their job. He could have explained that we have to know if those weapons actually existed or whether our intelligence operations had failed so badly. Regardless, if the weapons did exist, we had to find them because if they were in Syria, they were still a grave threat to our security and world peace. He could have diffused that issue and the Democrats would not been able to credibly use it against him.

The most significant failure of Bush was not fighting back against his political enemies, the Democrats. We are in our current impotent state largely due to this fact. He could have beaten the crap out of them, but never raised a glove. We have got to make sure that our future leaders are willing to fight our political enemies. He let them get the best of him. You may disagree with me, but this is my opinion. I still personally like President Bush, but he did let us down in a very significant way. I remember thinking so many times during the past 8 years, Bush has got to fight them now…he never did.

The damage to his business would be caused by those who voted for Obama. Why not let them face the consequences of their vote? I know this was a joke, but it makes a really good point. Why puinish those who did not vote for Obama and reward those who did? You are going to see many small business go under once Obama is at the helm. If you voted for him, you share the responsibility of the outcome. I think most folks on RS have pretty good senses of humor, the ‘email’ was a great post. You may not like it, but it gives one a lot to think about, and it made me smile. I hope that Obama supporters will hold him as accountable as they held Bush. He has made a lot of promises and expectations are high. Somehow, I think we are seeing the second comming of Jimmy Carter!

I know Obama really didn’t have a landslide, but we are smaller in numbers in the House and Senate now…we got our butts kicked in reality. My only solace is that Obama’s supporters have very high expectations that he will not meet…I expect he will fail miserably. We should have a great shot in 2010 and 2012, but we need to get our act together. We need to get the government out of business as much as possible. Our current economic woes are caused by government. Obama wants even more. The producers in “Atlas Shrugged” went on strike against the looters. It may take simular action by our business people to put the government in its place!

Sen. Lieberman

LetJoeStay Thursday, November 13th at 10:37PM EST (link)

Joseph Lieberman stood up for what he believes in, for the candidate he believed in, and for what he believes is right. Unlike his fellow Democrats who march to the beat of the party line no matter if their conscience disagrees, he took a chance and bucked the party. He’s no different than Colin Powell (who endorsed Sen. Obama) or Giuliani (who back in the 1990s back Gov. Cuomo against Republican Pataki). The only difference is that the Republicans didn’t burn Powell and Giuliani for thinking for themselves. The way Lieberman has been treated is a disgrace. There are many of us who feel that way. That’s why we have www.letjoestay.blogspot.com. Let Joe Stay!
