The REAL Problem with Romney

RomneyCare.

He cannot escape it.  He signed it.

And now we have this: Mass. Healthcare Premiums Down 5%

While healthcare insurance premiums have gone up in other states, those  participating in the state’s Health Connector Commonwealth Care program are  enjoying a second year of reduced premium payments courtesy of the healthcare  reform act signed into law by then Gov. Mitt Romney, Forbes.com  reported.

President Barack  Obama‘s Affordable Care Act was patterned under Romney’s program in  Massachusetts and  designed to lower the amount of “free riders,” people who  don’t buy or can’t afford healthcare insurance but cannot by law, be turned away at a hospital emergency room if they have a  life-threatening illness, by mandating the purchase of healthcare insurance.

How can he escape it? The media wants ObamaCare.  Romney supporters, please tell me how Romney is going to survive through the election process without reversing course on his current stated position on ObamaCare.  OCare and RCare are so close to the same thing that it is embarrassing.

Look, I do not want ObamaCare. You don’t either.  But we are not going to have a choice come November.

The “best” Romney is going to be able to do, after August 30th, will be to claim that OCare is flawed in a way that RCare isn’t, or that insurance should be left to the states.  Both are extremely weak arguments.

My point is that nominating Romney is a cataclismic mistake.    The media will put out crap like the article linked above and force Romney to  embrace his legacy in Mass. once he is our nominee.  Then we will be stuck with it forever.

If you want Romney/ObamaCare, then by all means, nominate Romney.  There is still time to turn this around.

As Alan Stang used to say “Think about it!”

Would Ron Paul Do This?

Happy Easter everyone! May the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen and preserve you all unto eternal life.

As a fundamentalist Christian Conservative I have severe problems with Romney as the Republican nominee – I think I’ve made that very clear in the past. I don’t really know at this point what I am going to do in November.  I am at my wit’s end and I cannot seem to find a path that is consistent with most of what I believe in.

And now there is THIS.

The letter, written by Justin Raimondo, one of Ron Paul’s leading sycophants, is a call for Paul to form a third party challenge for November. And his reason for calling for this?

“In short, Republicans need to be taught a lesson, one they will never forget. By disdaining the substantial and growing libertarian wing of the GOP, and ignoring the desire for peace on the part of the larger public, they have earned nothing but defeat.”

Wow!!  Taught a lesson for not listening to a real crackpot?????

But what is this really?  We hear that Mitt is attempting to negotiate with the Paulites as to what it would take to get them on board.  It has even been suggested that Rand Paul as the VP would be their just demand.  This is the Paul campaign shooting a cannonball over the Romney campaign to start negotiating in good faith with the Paul campaign – which is actually good news that perhaps Romney is not negotiating in good faith with them.

But in the event there is some truth to the effort now or in the future, let’s parse this a little.  Nationally, Paul is between 10 and 16%.  Meanwhile, Santorum is still garnering 26 to 31%,  Both candidates have suffered from the perception that it is time to get behind the eventual winner to defeat Obama.  So let’s just stipulate that these numbers now represent the TRUE BELIEVERS in each camp.  So, by almost every reasonable honest measure Paul’s support is half of Santorum’s.  Why would there be a need to woo the Paul supporters and not the Santorum supporters when we are twice as large?

There is only one conclusion that can be reached. If true it would mean that Romney ASSUMES we Conservatives will come out and vote for him regardless.  To put this to rest, we had better start hearing of some negotiations with the Santorum people and possibly even the placement of Santorum on the ticket.  I can’t imagine Rick being willing to do that, but perhaps he would.

(BTW: This is further evidence of just why Romney is completely the wrong choice.  We need someone that can unite the factions in the Republican Party – someone that everyone can enthusiastically support.  Romney loses on almost every score.)

If Romney takes our votes for granted and therefore thinks that he can negotiate with the Paulites, then we have a very serious problem.  IF that is the direction Romney goes then we will have to act.  We will have no choice but to call for a boycott or perhaps even run an alternative candidate of our own.  Of course it will mean defeat, but a Romney/Paul coalition would already have assured that.  We would have to show our true will-power by NOT voting.  Paraphrasing Justin Raimondo:

In short, Republicans would need to be taught a lesson, one they would never forget. By disdaining the substantial and growing fundamentalist christian wing of the GOP, and ignoring their desire for true progress on reversing Roe v. Wade, they would have earned nothing but defeat.

AND, before I hear it from you all: I do know that Ron Paul professes to be a pro-life candidate, but that isn’t true. He believes in liberty in all cases and that would include the liberty to abort innocent babies.

Romney Shakes Things Up

Mitt Romney Shakes Things Up

Mitt Romney Press | August 30, 2012

Location

Tampa, FL United States

Mitt Romney today announced that everything he has been saying for the last year is not what he really meant to say.

“Americans: With the bruising Republican nomination process behind us, I now look forward to winning the presidency,” said Mitt Romney. “For the sake of America it is vitally important that I win this contest and make Barack Obama a one term president. Therefore it is imperative that I reconsider some of the positions I took during the Republican primaries.  To that end it will be necessary to change my position on a few select issues.  This will be an ongoing process, and I reserve the right to change other alleged positions of mine as necessary.  Over the last several days I have been able to think about a few of the issues and I hereby announce my first group of new positions.”

Birth Control

“My friends, when it comes to birth control we need to be listening to the women in our country.  We know that they need access to birth control and that all women cannot always pay for it.  I mean, this is a no-brainer.  During the primary contests, I know some misunderstanding of my positions got out, and there just wasn’t enough time or money to fully clarify my position.  So, to make sure that all American women are clear, I want them to know that I am committed to requiring employers, whomever they might be, to provide birth control – free of charge – to all their employees, if they provide health insurance.  After all it is the employee’s health insurance that they are earning through their job not the employer’s health that is in question.”

ObamaCare

“Actually, this is very, very inappropriately named.  I invented this in Massachusetts, and thus my campaign will henceforth refer to it as Romney/Obama Care.  There is one important change to that law that I would seek as President, and that would be to make sure that all women have free access to abortions on demand by having the Federal government pay for all abortions.”

Auto-Industry Bailout

“I really wanted to tell the Michigan people about this during the primaries, but unfortunately I could not.  When the auto-industry bailout was being considered by the new Obama administration, The President called me to get my input on what I thought should be done.  He offered me General Motors for a couple of million dollars, but I deferred on the grounds that Bain Capital would probably not be as good a steward of that iconic gem of American industrial might, and that the Federal government would probably do better at saving American jobs. I encouraged him to do what was right for American workers, and he obviously did this.  My public statements at the time should be disregarded.”

Marriage Equality

“As governor, I strongly supported the rights of gays and lesbians to marry. Unfortunately, the legislature of Massachusetts was just not ready to approve such fair, forward and responsible legislation at the time.  Same-sex marriage is inevitable in this country, so why fight it?  As president I will encourage the Congress to pass sweeping legislation to force all states to immediately implement comprehensive marriage-equality. Under my proposed legislation all Federal aid would be cut off to any state that does not comply within one year of my taking office.”

Background on Mitt Romney:

Governor Romney served as governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007.  As a bi-partisan wizard, Mitt was able to reach across the aisle and coax other Massachusetts lawmakers into approving the (at the time) most comprehensive set of state sponsored health insurance programs in the country.

NEWT, QUIT – PLEASE!!!

Your principles are furthered the most by getting out of this race.  You cannot win!!  You are splitting the true conservative vote.  The longer this continues the more likely becomes an Obama re-election.  You have had a good run and we admire your service to our country.  For the sake of our country, the Republican Party, and everything that is good and decent, GET OUT OF THIS RACE!!

The big question that needs to be answered is: What fraction of your support will go to Rick Santorum?  I think it’s going to be very large.  Some people say it won’t be.  Let’s find out.

And you might as well endorse Santorum.  He is much closer to your position than Romney.

It is obvious to EVERYONE.  You are not the man for 2012.

PLEASE, SUSPEND YOUR CAMPAIGN NOW!!!

Stemming the Tide or Changing the Game

Current conventional wisdom says that Mitt Romney has the best chance of defeating B. Hussein Obama this fall – I get that.

But let’s examine that closely: We all know that Romney is not a true conservative.  Heck, the only part of him that is even Republican at all is that he favors a system that does not punish the job creators – but that’s probably only because he’s part of the super-rich. And nobody except the rich are really very interested in electing him President.  The only thing that seems to matter is that he has a better long shot at defeating Obama.

I think there are a lot of people (and if the shoe fits, wear it) who need to wake up and start looking at the bigger picture.  Conservative ideology, Republican ideology will not be put forward by electing Romney.  Even IF he wins we will have a milk-toast conservative who will make deal after deal after deal with the Democrats.  He is not, nor will he ever be, what the country needs.

Electing Romney is merely an effort to stem the tide of liberalism – and a weak attempt at that.  We made some real progress after the Clinton years (and those years weren’t so bad after all, we just didn’t know it at the time).  Now the pendulum has swung back – hard  – against us.  We need to THINK about how to win in the long run, and electing Mittens is not going to help AT ALL.

We need to change the game.

With Romney, the question will be: Is this SCOTUS nominee centrist or definitely right-wing?  The question will be: Is this cabinet nominee going to clean up Washington, or become a part of Washington?  We will have to ask those questions every time, and the answer will not always be clear.

Changing the game means going out on a limb a little and picking the candidate that will truly take on Washington with a Conservative agenda that takes no prisoners.  We need total dedication to that cause.  Santorum and Gingrich would both fit that bill, and the problem is that we have two of them to Romney’s one.  Combined, the Santorum/Gingrich vote is winning every primary.

I have made no secret that Santorum would be my choice, but Gingrich would also be a game changer.

And it is not about winning.  Stemming the tide with Romney will only make it plausible that the Democrats could succeed again in 2016.  But…

A strong conservative candidate that lost in 2012 would change the game and get the country ready for a conservative blow-out in 2016.  I shudder with the prospects of 4 more years of Obama, but if that is inevitable, then we would be much, much better served to have had a true debate in the public arena between the forces of darkness and the forces of conservative principles.  Whatever Obam does now can (mostly) be undone with a true conservative president along with the House and the Senate.

Let’s CHANGE THE GAME!!  We’re losing this one.

MAD

I’m mad!!!!  No, I’m really, really mad!!!! No, I’m furious over the current situation in the Republican Party – but that isn’t what the title of my diary is about.

It dawned on me yesterday that the Republican Party elite – the Establishment – is engaging us conservatives in a game of Assured Destruction.  With Romney as their anointed nominee, they are saying to us that we had better tow the line for him because otherwise we get the destruction of another 4 years of Obama.

That’s it!!  The ONLY thing we conservatives get out of that deal is NOT Obama.  Do we get Supreme Court nominees that would be assuredly Pro-life?  No!!  How about a constitutional amendment declaring that life begins at conception?  Not a chance!!  Do we get rid of ObamaCare?  No!!  Do we get an end to runaway government spending?  Maybe – probably not!  Is there any part of the conservative agenda that we get?  Probably NOT!  All we get is NOT Obama.

I was in the Navy at one time – aboard an SSBN submarine.  The purpose of that ship and its missiles was to provide a deterrent to the Soviets of an attack on the United States.  The key was the immense destructive power that the ship possessed.  With 24 missiles and multiple warheads per missile, our ship alone could have wrecked such havoc on the Soviet Union that they didn’t dare attack us.  As immoral as it seems to some, by being ready, willing and able to strike, we made it extremely unlikely that the Soviet Union would ever attack us.

You probably can see where I am going with this. Obama is the package of missiles that they (Romneybots) have loaded.  He is assured destruction and we are being told that we had better deliver our votes or the fury of Obama will be unleashed for another 4 years.

Like I said, that is Assured Destruction.  But you see, in the Cold War, there were two sides playing that game.  The problem is that we conservatives have not been playing that game at all.  We’ve been fighting on principle, trying to convince the masses of the wisdom of conservative principles.  And so far it hasn’t worked.  Some days we make progress but the Washington elite – the insiders – keep pushing the levers and the money and the press to put their priorities first.

As terrible as nuclear weapons are, they are absolutely necessary in a world that already has them.  We have thus far refused to engage in that kind of warfare because we have taken the high moral ground and tried to fight on a playing field that is stacked against us with the equivalent of bows and arrows (of truth) against their nuclear weapons (of might and Obama).

So how can we fight back?  There is only one way to fight this.  There is only one thing we have – one thing that they desperately need from us, and that is our votes.  They cannot survive without our votes. We social conservatives provide the vast majority of the Republican votes.

Are we going to once again cave in to their Armageddon proposal:  Vote for Romney or be destroyed by Obama?

Ah, but it is still March.  Romney doesn’t yet have the nomination sewn up.  The convention isn’t until late August.  There is still time ( but you wouldn’t know that listening to the pundits after Tuesday).

Would Santorum be acceptable to all sides in our Party?  Yes! He is pro-business, pro-life, and against profligate government spending.  Is he acceptable to Social Conservatives?  He IS our candidate!!  SANTORUM IS THE COMPROMISE CANDIDATE!!

If we had ever had to launch our missiles we would have known that we had failed.  We had to be ready willing and able to do it.  If ordered to do so, we would have done it, knowing full well that there were dire consequences (quite likely death) to us if we did so.  Only through that conviction were we able to convince the Soviet Union that they dared not attack us -and it worked (and still does).

It seems to me, that the only way we can play this game (that they are engaging in) is to declare that the game of Assured Destruction is now a multi-player game.  We need to declare in writing that if they nominate Romney that WE WILL NOT SHOW UP on November 6 – AT ALL.  No votes for your idiot, no votes for your Congressmen, no votes for your Senators.  Nothing!!  Just as in nuclear war, it’s Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD).  You lose everything if Romney is the nominee.  Yes it is MAD!!

That’s how MAD works.  It doesn’t work if we turn around after Romney is nominated and say, “OK, we’ll vote for him anyway.”  They’ve got to know that we have the conviction to follow through and really stay at home if they nominate Obama-lite.  They are going to shrug their shoulders at this and say that we will fall in line after the convention.  Thus, we only have power now.  How can we convince them that we will stay home?  I don’t know the answer to that.

Everyone knows that Romney is a crapshoot at best for knocking off Obama.  So, here’s the grand deal: Nominate Santorum and we will show up – everyone will show up.  Then, even if Obama wins, we then still have the majority in Congress and possibly even the Senate to keep Obama in check.  On the other hand, nominate Romney and then you get Obama on steroids.  Yes it is a terrible threat, but what else can we do?

Help me out here true conservatives.  Do you understand what we must do, or are you going to cave and go vote for Obama-lite if they nominate him?

Breaking: Mitt Romney Post Convention Plans Released (Accidentally?)

I just got this in my inbox and I couldn’t believe what I was reading.  Did any of you get this too?  Look at the date on this.

If ever there was any doubt about where he is headed?  How can any conservative vote for this guy?

Mitt Romney Announces New Set of Positions on Several Issues

Mitt Romney Press | August 30, 2012

Mitt Romney today announced that everything he has been saying for the last year is not what he really meant to say.

“Americans: With the bruising Republican nomination process behind us, I now look forward to winning the presidency,” said Mitt Romney. “For the sake of America it is vitally important that I win this contest and make Barack Obama a one term president. Mitt Romney says “Waaaaaaaah”

I cannot believe the temerity of this guy. Today on Fox Mitt called Democratic crossover voting “an outrage.”

Does he not realize that the Internet exists and that we can remember what he said in the past?  It’s not like it was very long ago either.

I’m not a fan of Democrats meddling in Republican Party contests OR in Republicans meddling in Democratic Party contests, but this is absolutely ridiculous.  Just a month ago he himself said:

“In my state of Massachusetts, you could register as an independent and go vote in which either primary happens to be very interesting.  And any chance I got to vote against Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy, I took.”

So if Republicans want to interfere in Decomcrat’s elections it’s OK, but not when they vote against him.

Is there no end to this guy’s hypocrisy?  Does he really think that we won’t notice?

There is a pattern here and we need to learn from the pattern.

What Constitutes “Conservative Enough”?

I like to think about the long term. With Obama in the White House our nation has certainly taken its share of losses lately, but are they really going to matter in the long-term?  Only time will tell.  Despite everything that is happening, I remain confident that we will eventually prevail, but WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT THE LONG-TERM.

  • Will abortion be permanently illegal in this country 20 years from now?
  • Will we have a free-enterprise economic system 40 years from now?
  • Will we have a military that is able to defend our freedoms 30 years from now?

These are the questions that really matter, and in the spirit of these questions we must begin to analyse what we are doing in this Presidential election cycle.

Suppose that we nominate Romney and by some miracle of fate he is elected President.  Where does that get us?

Is Romney going to turn around the abortion situation?  Did George W. Bush turn it around? (Answer: No!!!)  Anyone think that Romney has a chance to change things? How sure are we that he will only nominate pro-life justices?  Look at his record carefully before you answer.

Would Romney reverse the trend toward socialism?  Hmmm… How likely is he to overturn RomneyCare…oh sorry… ObamaCare?

Would President Romney be willing to compromise with Democrats and reduce the federal deficit by slashing defense spending?

Romney can claim he is a “Severe Conservative” (for that matter he can attach whatever superlative to “conservative” that he wants) but it will not change the fact that HE ISN’T A CONSERVATIVE. In fact, EVERYONE KNOWS THIS!!  He is a panderer, and no matter what he says, political expediency is more than likely to rule the day and in the end we are going to be left with nothing.

The only way to succeed in the long run is to elect a TRUE CONSERVATIVE!!  We must elect someone who is a CONSERVATIVE to his very core.  A person who drinks CONSERVATIVE Kool-aide, who eats CONSERVATIVE raw meat, and breaths CONSERVATIVE fire.  Every bone in his body, every fiber of his being must be completely, totally, 1000% CONSERVATIVE!  He must be uncompromising and totally dedicated to saving this nation and not himself.  That is the only way that change is going to happen.

This isn’t just a game people!!  This is real, in fact this is as real as it gets.  There is no such thing as “Too Conservative”.  There are not various grades of conservative.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of candidates who are not actually conservative, and Mitt Romney is the most obvious one.

So how do we get a true CONSERVATIVE into the White House?  Unfortunately, things need to get worse before that will happen.  We need to see the abject failure of Liberalism on display.  We need (unfortunately) to see the economy once again in free-fall.  We need to see the crime rates rising and the communists standing at the door.  We need to see the medical system failing.  These things are happening because of Obama, but they haven’t totally come to fruition yet.  We (conservatives) know that these things are coming, and we can warn our fellow (idiot) citizens of them, but they will not listen – for now.  Only when they see it with their own eyes will they realize what we have been telling them: That liberalism is destroying us!!

This is way beyond the RINO issue.  Many Republicans are CINO (Conservative In Name Only).  This isn’t really a Republican/Democrat issue.

I still have hope for this year, but week after week of improved job statistics fiction are convincing more and more people that the fiasco in the White House should get another term.  I have hope that Willard will not be the Republican nominee (Newt doesn’t really qualify either, but I would at least vote for him).  If we lose with Romney, how will the eventual victory of CONSERVATIVISM be furthered? It won’t!!  We need someone who will clearly articulate the conservative view of things.  Presidential elections have a way of doing that.  Many more people pay attention and regardless of their votes this time around, they will know what we conservatives stand for and they will understand our differences with Obama.   It took 16 years from Barry Goldwater’s defeat until we saw the election of Reagan.  Similarly, it might take several cycles before we see a similar result, but I doubt it.  But we need a CONSERVATIVE nominee for that to happen.

Santorum – now there’s a CONSERVATIVE!! I would rather he wasn’t a Catholic, but I can live with that – at least he isn’t a member of a true cult.  Can he win?  I doubt it, but I still have hope.  In any case, it would be far, far better to lose with Santorum than to win with Romney.

There, I said it!!  Condemn me all you want, but you know deep in your heart it is true.  But that isn’t really the choice, is it?  Romney isn’t going to win/Romney cannot win.  If we are going to lose anyway, why not plant the seeds of eventual victory?  And who knows – maybe, just maybe, Santorum could win this time around.  Now wouldn’t that be kick in the pants?
