Or wherein I feel completely discouraged

I titled this post with humor in an attempt to soothe my wounded feelings.

Today, while driving around the Nashville area, a predominantly conservative part of the country, I counted no less than 17 pro-Obama stickers. I attribute this to the free “get your FREE bumper stickers supporting Barack Obama” that Facebook has been shoving in my face thanks to moveon.org. What I want to know is why Facebook isn’t shoving John McCain bumper stickers in my face?

My guess is that the McCain campaign doesn’t have anyone footing the bill for said free bumper stickers, which probably tells me a lot.

What the American people want is clear: WE WANT FREEBIES. That’s right. It’s the reason we’re willing to support a universal health-care plan, even if it’s a sub-par one. We want our free bumper stickers, our free t-shirts our great big CHANGE and all the fall-out be danged. We want our everybody share everything programs, and the people that trained so hard in those medical fields quit because they get paid peanuts quit, and our brand new socialist society…wait, did I actually say that?

You get where I’m going with this. I’m disappointed because I feel like people are so quick to get caught up in the hype. I hear so much that I am “such a sheep” because of my moral beliefs and then I see people that will jump for someone like Obama and I have to wonder what all of it means. I want people to question why they are voting for someone. Do they actually understand why they support Obama? Does he actually stand for anything or is he just a charismatic leader? If all it takes is a charismatic leader to lead a country, then any cult leader would do. We need more action and less talk.

I’m just frustrated by what I perceive to be a lack of understanding of the process. We don’t need someone who is untested. I want metal that has been through fire before it supports me and my car over water, not thin, bright shiny metal that may be weak in spots. It may be pretty, but when push comes to shove, it’s going to fall and I’m going to fall with it.

To say I have trepidation about the upcoming election is to put it mildly.

I think this election is going to be decided on one variable: how many independent, yeah-sure-let’s-go-vote voters go for Obama based on his image and persona, versus how many find out what he stands for and vote against him.

I think movement conservatives will come out for McCain, because they won’t like anything about Obama.

Center-Right and Center-left Republicans will of course vote McCain.

Hard lefties will vote Obama.

I think it’s safe to say most true Independents — the few people who are both interested and unaligned — will go for McCain.

But the American Idol viewers, those uninterested in politics? Your guess is as good as mine.

Nice post. I think many of us feel basically the same. But I also have a tiny little bit of faith in the electorate.
Much like the Obama’s victory speech where it appeared to be huge crowd, but in actuality, the crowd only filled a corner of the auditorium. I know his crowds are huge. But they’re the left wing nuts. And, in the bigger picture, the left wing nuts are a very small minority.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. Neil, I think so.

Unfortunately…they do. They care enough to request free bumper stickers.

You think they'll go for McCain?

MrsNachos (Diary) Sunday, July 27th at 4:46AM EST (link)

Why?

Thank you.

I’m back with a bit of trepidation, but back. I’m hopeful that people can see through the charade.

[oh, and welcome back -- and come on over to our living room occasionally too -- even the Mr drops in occasionally]

And as you well know if you have lurked, I have had my doubts about Sen McCain, myself. My feeling is that any more of this “new tone” clap from our side and we won’t HAVE a side.

But, the Obamessiah SHOULD; with his cheerleading MSM and his Rock Star “don’t-ask-me-questions-I’ll-sign-autographs” image; be 20 points ahead in the polls against that old white dude.

But he is not. World Tour Europe has bumped him up a couple of points but essentially it is still within the margin of error. He seemingly CANNOT break into the magical 50 percent arena.

My guess is that his campaign is essentially half right when he CONSTANTLY asserts that we live in a racist nation. Unfortunately for him, the racist half is his own constituency, and if he loses 1/3 of them, Nov 4 is going to be a surprisingly short night for the election coverage.

When it begins to look like a McCain sweep across the nation, does anyone want to bet that the networks will decide NOT to start calling races TOO soon, so as NOT to discourage turnout in western states? My guess is, McCain will need to win a state by 25 points and have 75% of the actual vote counted before a single network will call that state for him on election night. On the other hand, MA and DC will be called within minutes of the polls closing

gauges of election outcomes. The best gauge here at redstate is me. My gauge is the leftism of the dem candidate. It always works unless a perot and a moderate dem are running.

does work given that Obama is so far left and so were mondale, mccgovern, dukakis and kerry compared to clinton and since barr is no perot.

I am VERY confident.

a referendum on Obama and not on Bush like the left wants to.

We can win a referendum on Obama.

We will most certainly lose a referendum on Bush.

Therefore, its about who is best, Obama or McCain. Obama is way ahead of past dem losers in making sure voters know he is a leftist.

Gore would have won a landslide in 2000 if it was about a clinton referendum.

Americans are not trifling. They understand that presidential elections matter and that Regis shows don’t.

Honestly, I haven’t lurked. I’ve been immersing myself in my new career thanks to graduation and enjoying it greatly. I’ve been avoiding all political discussing, but I spend quite a bit of time in my car and couldn’t avoid this.

I would agree whole heartedly IF

there weren’t so many young voters that I think will come out for the vote this time around. I don’t think they are completely uninformed. I do think they are more easily swayed by things that may not mean the same things to them as they age.

“versus how many find out what he stands for and vote against him”

It’s not like he has any plans that indicate what he stands for. It’s all “hope”, “change”, and Bush-bashing.
