As you recall, this guy was slapping at cameramen at a California Nurses Association (CNA) anti-Meg Whitman rally the other day. At least, this guy was until he came to the belated realization that he was getting filmed by two different people. Well, it turns out that he’s not a nurse. Or, at least, not just a nurse. Say hi to Mike Griffing.
We start here at No Governor Moonbeam, who has pictures of both what looks to be the same guy…

And who is this Mike Griffing, do you ask? A drifter? A day laborer? A non-union worker hired to bulk up a protest?
Not… quite. The below is from CNA’s 2009 Form LM-2 Labor Organization Annual Report:
Yup. Mike Griffing was CNA’s 2009 Director of Collective Bargaining, with a salary of just under $164K. I was not aware that you could make this kind of money by going to anti-Whitman rallies and sneak-attacking people who have had the effrontery to put you and your group on the public record! Clearly we all picked the wrong career path.
So, there are three questions that have to be asked:
- Does the CNA still have Mike Griffing as its Collective Bargaining Director?
- Does the CNA consider this to be appropriate behavior by one of their current or past officers?
- If the answer to #1 is ‘yes’ and the answer to #2 is ‘no’… well, shouldn’t the CNA find that to be somewhat contradictory?
Seriously, this would be bad enough if Griffing was just some rank-and-file sorehead with a head full of misplaced entitlement and an eagerness to engage in aggressively antisocial behavior in a quasi-acceptable manner. But if he’s part of the leadership cadre… well. That’s a problem. One that his organization needs to deal with, quickly. Before he lashes out again.

Even if he was not doing this in a medical facility, he was doing is as a licensed nurse, and the activity was illegal, and he should be held accountable. If the CNA has any credibility, they would as least suspend his license.

FWIW, the nurses in my family are union members, but they have always resented that their union dues fund the Pennsylvania Nurses Association’s (which is somehow affiliated with the Teamsters) political activity because the PNA is pro-abortion. Additionally, they feel that the PNA doesn’t actively support conscience clauses for nurses. If ever there was a wedge issue potential between Big Unions and their rank and file members, I believe conscience clauses would be it.
The CNA appears to oppose conscience clauses.

jisaacconnett Monday, July 19th at 10:41PM EST (link)I was not aware that the CNA was only a union, and not a licensing board, Here in the State of Georgia, the Georgia Nurses Association is the licensing organization, but the GNA is a State Agency, not a union. However, complaints could still be made to the California Board of Registered Nursing, and they just might be persuaded to take some action against a nurse who assaults people while participating in a union activity. Assault is illegal. I certainly would not want to put my license at risk in that manner.

Just for the fact of documented assault shouldn’t the local police or the local DA, County Sheriffs office or state AG or somebody be arresting this guy for assault? It’s a slam dunk case for them…
Union members who take positions and all the perks and privilege have turned the unions into a private serfdom at the expense of everyone else and are acting like they above the law… if the police or the DA etc won’t apply the law to them then every man is essentially on their own for justice… good luck with that union guys when the people you are assaulting figure that one out and get angry about it!

When I worked the union side I wasn’t nearly as high up the chain as he is and I didn’t know what the back of an airplane or a restaurant/bar tab looked like. Union paid for my car, my gas and maintenance, my clothing allowance, and my walking around money.
He works for the union not for any private or public employer and his job is as much political inside the organization as it is based on any skill he might have. He’s a step or two below the business manager and they would be on the same team, so the BM ain’t doing nothing to him. He’s only going to do stuff like this in a city or state the the union owns, so no DA or AG is coming near him and unless what he does is really violent and bloody, pretty much unless somebody is dead, the cops are going to look the other way.

Even if some DA under political pressure charged him, a “jury of HIS peers” would just acquit. What we need is state laws, starting in our Red states, that make it a crime to dominate, restrain, interfere, or coerce a person in their political expression. Those words are carefully chose since they’re the words from the NLRA unfair labor practice of interfering with an employee’s right to “form, self-organize, and join” a labor union.
Then when we restore a legitimate government in the US, we can enact it federally.

And I don’t mean a very showy political indictment that makes every front page but which then gets dismissed when nobody’s looking or which the prosecution deliberately blows the case if it goes to a jury – CA’s really good at that one; I know I’d have fired the OJ prosecutors had they been working for me and put on that case.
As long as he confines his activities to Blue states and cities, he stays untouchable unless he commits a major crime in front of multiple witnesses, preferably with multiple videos.
