Domestic terrorism in Houston update.

What?  Oh, right: somebody sent a pipe bomb to the wife of an oil executive (via Confederate Yankee, via Instapundit) – she ended up in the hospital with facial injuries from the blast.  Turns out that it was apparently deliberately targeted at the woman

Neighbors who saw the package but didn’t want to appear on camera describe it as a box of chocolates that left inside a gift bag. One neighbor says there was a card attached that simply said, “Thank you.” It included the woman’s name, but it was misspelled.

…which argues against a random attack.  The bomb was reportedly loaded with nails and shrapnel; somebody wanted this woman dead or permanently disfigured.  And, not to be blunt about things or anything, but if the oil executive connection is true then I officially have zero confidence in the ability, or willingness, of the Holder Justice Department to investigate this crime.  This isn’t just the Black Panther thing: it’s been a year and a half since somebody tried to burn down a Wasilla, AK church for political reasons, and the DoJ is showing no sign of caring about that, either.

Moe Lane

PS: And not to belabor the point, but if something like this happened to the wife of a union official the resulting media firestorm would be visible from orbit.  Even a bomb threat would make the national news.

Sorry, but denying the poor reputation that organized media has does not actually make the problem go away.  At this rate, denying it may make organized media go away, but that’s a different issue.

We gripe about the growth of the administrative state and federalization of all crimes but when crimes happen we think should be prosecuted, we all too often want the feds to come into the picture.

In this case, the attack should be investigated and prosecuted by state and local authorities. An exception can be made in the Black Panthers case because it is a violation of the VRA and CRA. However, is this bombing really a federal matter, leaving the ATF issue (explosives) aside?

How can you leave the explosives aside?

The “gift bomb” was loaded with them. That’s ATF territory.

The BATF is pretty much...

Kudzu (Diary) Sunday, July 11th at 3:25PM EST (link)

a dangling participle. The BATF, DEA, and a few other law enforcement agencies should be rolled up into the FBI for all intents and purposes.

But that’s another debate. Since US code says acts of terrorism are the proprietary jurisdiction of the FBI then the FBI should take this with assistance from the ATF. As for the Civil Rights Division of the FBI, this would not be their purview nor their area of expertise. As we’ve seen int he past week and we’ve known for decades, the CRD is pretty much a political legal lynch mob (pun intended) that bends with the will or desire of the Chief Executive or the head of said division.

still, under existing laws that have been in place covering what are identified or called Hate crimes, civil rights & voting rights violations it is only fair and right to expect said laws to be enforced even handedly.

The precedent or practice of enforcing what they wish, as with the current scum in the WH & DOJ, only makes for a even worse situation, intrusive laws at the Federal level become all the more onerous as they become all the more selective, politicized, and therefore corrupt.

There was testimony last week by a whistle-blower former DOJ Civil Rights Division attorney, who resigned after being ordered by DOJ superiors to ignore a subpoena calling for testimony before the Civil Rights Commission regarding the New Black Panther Party’s intimidation and threats to Philly voters during the 2008 election.

According to his testimony, a Deputy Attorney General flat-out ordered all Division attorneys to deep-six any/all Civil Rights cases in which the complainant(s) are white and the accused are minority members. Articles about it can be found at Breitbart’s big journalism site.

A disaffected former Justice Department attorney has written: “We had indications that polling-place thugs were deployed elsewhere.” “Indications”? Again, evidence has yet to be offered.

Get a grip, folks. The New Black Panther Party is a lunatic fringe group that is clearly into racial theater of minor importance. It may dream of a large-scale effort to suppress voting — like the Socialist Workers Party dreams of a national campaign to demonstrate its position as the vanguard of the proletariat. But the Panthers have not realized their dream even on a small scale. This case is a one-off.

it’s not about agenda and effectiveness of the New Black Panther party…

This is about JUSTICE. and JUSTICE is being ignored… that was the point of the comment in the first place…

Eric Holder’s DOJ is a joke.

J. Christian Adams wasn’t the only whistleblower by the way, there were 6 DOJ attorneys that were working on this case, and their supervisor called it out as B.S. The DOJ REFUSED to let his former Boss’ testimony go on the record, and they delayed and dodged the internal investigation process as to why they refused to go forward with this case, even though it was slam dunk.

you’re either insane, a witty troll that has survived a year on this site, or someone that is completely uninformed.

Playing politics instead of acting like the President can harm people

fisk2521 Sunday, July 11th at 11:57AM EST (link)

The federal government has slowly taken over the enforcement of laws by imposing civil rights on all issues. We have seen a move away from ‘equal protection under the law” in this country, by laws that target and only include certain groups of people and race. “Hate crimes” are meant to protect a targeted group and used politically to gain further control and actually divide the nation. The Attorney General’s actions on the Black Panther crime proves my point.

We have no idea who did this horrific crime. They meant to murder her and if it is discovered that it is related to her husband’s job, was intended to terrorize anyone affiliated with the energy industry… domestic terrosim to be sure,

A case can certainly be made that the President has created an environment meant to target this industry and ALL oil companies as ‘evil’ instead of putting the blame on BP AND the federal government . He does this to satisfy his left wing base while ignoring the fact that he is the President of all of us, not just those that voted for him and should not be playing politics with such an essential issue. Sadly it seems he does not have that capability…. .

Maybe November will give different perspective.

federal involvement should depend on precise circumstances

indylawyer (Diary) Sunday, July 11th at 12:54PM EST (link)

Whether the feds lead the prosecution ought to depend on the results of a preliminary investigation. If it looks like it was perpetrated by some local individual or group without broader connections, then its probably better to leave the matter in the hands of Texas authorities – who I’d trust more than the feds in this case anyway. But if there are signs of some broader conspiracy, then federal involvement would be needed to prosecute and investigate across state lines.

It kind of sounds - from the local coverage - that whoever did this actually KNEW the lady.

They left this in a gift bag, to look like a box of chocolates. She received it a couple of weeks ago, but hadn’t opened it until Friday afternoon. If she had been in her home, it would have caused damage to the house; as it is, she took the box outside to eat on the patio.

From all accounts, whoever left this knew that she did nice things for other people, and she apparently didn’t find this “out of place” enough to be suspicious. I’m not saying that it couldn’t be related to her husband being an oil executive, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that something else is at play here that has nothing whatsoever to do with his oil connections.

I do feel sorry for her and her family, and I hope that she is able to recover from this. Given the complexity of the bomb, however, the Federal Government would have jurisdiction – this might have farther-reaching implications, and they will need to investigate to make sure that all of their bases are covered. In regards to punishment, in a crime such as this, it NEEDS to be a federal case; the perpetrator needs to do HARD time for something like this…..

Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride…..
