Obama gives Giannoulias the Rochester treatment.

Which is to say, Obama’s locking Alexi Giannoulias* (D CAND, IL-SEN) in the attic and pretending that he doesn’t exist:

Giannoulias will not make trip to Quincy to see Obama

From chicagotribune.com: Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, Giannoulias’ campaign chairman, expressed concerns over a lack of White House commitment to the candidate to Washington-based Politico after a recent meeting with President Barack Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. Durbin quickly tempered his comments, and the White House offered a tepid statement that “the president intends to help Democratic candidates in Illinois up and down the ballot.”

Full story here – as for the Rochester treatment: well.  Those familiar with Jane Eyre will no doubt remember how wonderfully that particular strategy worked.

Giannoulias family bank fails

GregInFla (Diary) Sunday, April 25th at 12:49PM EST (link)

Does Broadway Bank failuremake the Dem Senatorial candidate one of the corrupt bankers that Obama always talks about? You would think that Obama is running Kirk (R)’s camapign. This is how Obama won his elections in Illinois: shred integrity of opposition.

The failure of Broadway Bank is expected to cost the FDIC’s deposit insurance fund $394.3 million. For the other banks, the estimated costs are: Amcore Bank, $220.3 million; New Century Bank, $125.3 million; Citizens Bank&Trust Company, $20.9 million; Lincoln Park Savings Bank, $48.4 million; Peotone Bank and Trust Company, $31.7 million; and Wheatland Bank, $133 million.

Broadway Bank was owned by the family of Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, a Democrat who is running for President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat. The bank was heavy into real estate loans and lost $75 million last year.

RINO Mark Kirk.

Still, if it means that Harry Reid will be forced to hand the gavel over to someone with an R after his (or her) name … I’m willing to fill in the oval for Kirk.

But the conservatives couldn’t stop competing with each other long enough to coalesce behind one candidate. The crowded field split the conservative vote and let Kirk win. The sole consolation is that even Kirk is better than Giannoulias.

Attic or basement? Too bad Giannoulias isn’t as entertaining as Uncle Teddy “Roosevelt” Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace.

Although, in Chicago, the idea of digging canals (graves) in the basement has a certain cachet about it.

Standard-bearer for grouchy curmudgeonry since, oh, 1975 or so.

So Moe, who gets to be Grace Poole? -nt-
