Kill the Bill rally in Washington.

Smitty over at the Other McCain is covering it; see also Michelle MalkinGlenn Reynolds has an unconfirmed report of 30K so far, which if true should frighten Democrats generally, as this is a pickup protest.  Glenn also has pictures of the event, which will no doubt start the usual discussion about how many right-of-center people showed up to protest, in the hopes that it will distract people from the more interesting point that right-of-center people are now increasingly likely to show up to protest…

PS: Yes, it’d be great if I was there.  It’d also be great if I had a budget.  Not a complaint, just an observation; as Dan noted in his excellent post, it’s the other side that gets the funding.  So it goes.

Health Care Bill Rally

drdhkahn Saturday, March 20th at 1:31PM EST (link)

I am sure thirty thousand people arriving at DC would make an impression on democratic congressman but it seems, and what I am concerned about is that they would rather walk the plank, sacrifice their own careers instead of voting what their constituents want, what the facts dictate wants, or what the “right thing to do” wants.
This is the most dangerous time in America and that even included when we had to sit under out desks during civil defense drills in the fifties and sixties. One asks why approval is hovering at 45-% or so and as Rush explained yesterday, that is because that number reflects the number of Americans getting some type of govt help. If the health care vote is lost and this actually comes to pass, more than 50% will get something from govt. and forever will vote themselves whatever they want at the expense of the ever sharply decreasing private sector.

And some of us poor shumx

are prepping for finals this weekend and couldn’t give up the free time. :/ Man it sucks both working and going to school full time.

I’m hoping people continue to show up throughout the day- folks that didn’t start their trek until this morning and aren’t getting there until now, which I know is the case with a group from Columbus OH.

Patriots and Iowans Have a New Target: Bill Braley - Backing Off His Yes

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 1:13PM EST (link)

Worried about medicare cuts. Same issue as DeFazio, I think, reimbursements.

http://www.kcci.com/news/22894520/detail.html

If your in Iowa, its your moral duty to call Braley’s offices all day, even show up and rally around his offices.

Yankee, Braley upset the House

hickorystick (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 1:54PM EST (link)

causing a 1-1/2 miinute stoppage, when he called for greater patient safety. Sounds like an excuse to head out the door. Leans No?

He put this up on his web site:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xm1Z5by_ps&feature=player_embedded

I read your diary about the Senate not even finding 50 sig’s for considering Pelosi’s 150 pages of make-up. I think your right. The trajectory is downward.

Once The Dam Breaks

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 2:04PM EST (link)

There will be Dems who back off for liberal reasons. Remember, many in the House still hates the Senate bill because it is not liberal enough.

So, I don’t think all the signs need to be conservative, i.e. life, taxes deficit, … There are very liberal members, firedoglake liberals, who hate this bill and dont want to be associated with it if they dont have to.

Braley is in the same kind of district

hickorystick (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 2:43PM EST (link)

DeFazio is. Rural mixed with small cities. Maintaining a hospital in the small cities is a constant struggle. If you live in a rural area, the time it takes to get to a hospital is crucial. If your an hour away from the nearest hospital, and that hospital closes down, your SOL. Re-imbursements at a higher rate are crucial.
I believe you live in Boston? if so, look at the wall in the entryway of any hospital sometime; the one with the list of donors. Every name on a hospital, whether it is corporate or individual, I recognize. We live in wealthy prosperous port cities. They can drop a million dollar check for an MRI machine, and forget they did it two weeks later.
I suspect most of these areas the undecided’s represent, lack a lot of wealthy donors. Do you have a good list of undecideds?

And yes, Lib’s have all kinds of reasons to vote no, and should be encouraged to do so. If they start making a ruckus, it delays the vote and wears down Pelosi.

An anti-war rally at the same time.

tngal (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 1:28PM EST (link)

This is too funny. With Nader and Sheehan! And I thought the mix with the illegals was gonna be interesting. But since their’s is tomorrow I guess this is the next best thing.

And Cardoza Flips To a 'NO' !!!

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 1:29PM EST (link)

Doesnt like demon pass. Was a yes, will be a no if they vote demon pass.

Thank you, Mr. Cardoza. Sent a email saying he’s doing the right thing.

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/88027-rep-cardoza-says-hell-oppose-deem-and-pass

Deemon Pass has apparently been shelved which

eburke (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 2:42PM EST (link)

means Cordoza probably flips back to a yes. That should give you some idea of how close this is if they dumped Slaughter just to keep Cordoza’s vote.

Wonder how having to vote on the Senate Bill directly will affect any of the undecideds, or even some of the late ‘yes’s”.

More popcorn, please!

I wouldn’t pin hopes on him. The main point here is that the Democrats have set up an unconstitutional contest. I’m not saying we shouldn’t play in that contest, but the whole thing is a sham regardless of who wins the “Slaughter Rule” vote tomorrow.

The Idea is to Create Enough Chaos

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 1:43PM EST (link)

.. so there wont be a vote tommorow. People said Lynch would fold, he hasnt. They said DeFazio would fold, he hasnt. Heck, even Bobby Rush is out there with his hand still out.

Creat chaos, keep issues on the table, keep them neogitrating and let Sunday pass. Then the Dems will look inept and the leaders and the press liket liars and momentum will swing the other way, again. they leave for Easter Recess Friday. That’s all I’m looking at right now.

I’d rather hinge on that, then legal claims. I’ve been practicing law for two fortune one hundred companies for ten years too and I think the law is a ass. Even a conservative court decided Kelo. I wouldnt pin hopes on litigation.

Agreed - Don't Trust the Courts

thelonebostonconservative Saturday, March 20th at 2:16PM EST (link)

As a fellow lawyer, I don’t trust the courts to stop this. Even though it’s a violation of the constitution, the Court can save its behind by just dismissing it as a political question. I’m not sure the courts want to get wrapped up in any of this nonsense, because of the myriad of potential issues that will stem from it.

DeFazio has folded

A bunch of yes votes were just announced to coincide with Obama arriving at the Capitol – creating sense of momentum. Hoyer says they believe they have the votes.

Do not stop fighting hard!

Sheet Anchor (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 2:34PM EST (link)

Folks, we must keep the pressure on; do not let up for any reason! Here are the Representatives to keep calling, e-mailing, and faxing:

Undecided and voted no on House bill in November (4): Tanner (TN 8), Matheson (UT 2), Nye (VA 2), Baird (WA 3). Tanner and Baird are not running for reelection. Matheson’s brother was recently nominated for a federal judgeship; he appears to have fine credentials.

Undecided and voted yes on the House bill in November (8): Bean (IL 8), Foster (IL 14), Michaud (ME 2), Pomeroy (ND 1), Space (OH 18), Carney (PA 10), Kanjorski (PA 11), Ortiz (TX 27).

Stupak bloc (11): Berry (AR 1), Bishop (GA 2), Lipinski (IL 3), Costello (IL 12), Donnelly (IN 2), Stupak (MI 1), Driehaus (OH 1), Kaptur (OH 9), Dahlkemper (PA 3), Mollohan (WV 1), Rahall (WV 3).

Remember our compatriots on the flight over Pennsylvania on September 11th – they went down STANDING UP! We are Americans. We do not surrender! LET’S ROLL!

Vote of no confidence?

Scott Henson (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 2:42PM EST (link)

Isn’t the speaker of the house subject to votes of no confidence and be removed? With Stupak and many other house Dems tired of Pelosi, couldn’t the Republicans force a vote to replace her and then have the new speaker table the bill? I’m sure there is tonnes of built up animosity on the Dem side and I can see them wanting to replace her with a less radical Dem.

Scott Henson

People are more likely to vote N on a bill than vote to yank Pelosi as speaker

JSobieski (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 2:53PM EST (link)

Just like more Dems were willing to vote in favor of this week’s procedural vote than to vote in favor of substantive HCR

My rules of the road for primary season.
Rule #1: Vote for YOUR first choice in the primaries
Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.

STOP THE MADNESS!

A reduction in the rate of spending increases is NOT a cut!
In-state tuition for illegals is NOT amnesty!
Requiring someone to pay their medical bills is NOT an individual mandate!
Reducing tax rates is NOT a tax increase!

If ObamaCare Goes Down, The GOP Might Want To Consider Introducing a 'No Confidence' Vote Anyway (nt)

Executive order to guarantee Hyde???

PaladinLostHour (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 3:51PM EST (link)

Please. Pelosi/Obama has now officially moved right past assuming the public are morons, to assuming their colleagues are idiots. Trying to buy off Stupak & Co, with an E.O. -because we know, BHO would never dream of reversing an Executive Order he fundamentally disagrees with, or for political expediency:

http://www.newsmax.com/InsideCover/obama-executive-orders/2008/11/08/id/326486

This is what happens when the American people throw an infantile fit of pique, and put into power an arrogant youth who believes speech is a tool to an end, not something useful for communicating truth.

(It’s astonishing to me that Obama and Pelosi can even be in the same city, let alone the same room, without their supermassive egos and boundless arrogance collapsing DC into a mini black hole)

T-partiers denied entry to congressional bldgs

tngal (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 4:06PM EST (link)

You know, this is just wrong. It’s my buiding and I want in now!

From the Washington Examiner

“…thousands of protesters descended on the lawn of Capitol building. But many more were also using the occasion to visit the their congressional representative …”

“However, Capitol Police recently stopped allowing any of the peaceful protesters to enter into congressional buildings. Crowds are now gathering in front of the House and Senate offices, demanding that they be let in to air their constituent concerns.”

Got back myself....

Stephen Halsey (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 7:57PM EST (link)

…..about 2 hours ago. Headed out of Richmond this morning with my 8 and 10 year old kids. It is my duty to expose them to this process and what we’re up against. And they get it. We talk about this every night at the dinner table.

Anyway it was an unbelievable sight headed towards the Capital from the Capital South Metro stop today cresting the hill south of the Capital seeing all of those patriots chanting in unison ‘kill the bill’. And as a parent it was cool seeing my kids with both arms in the air chanting it as well. I hope the Marxists inside our Capital were looking out the window today and understand the anger outside. They are playing with fire right now…….

Hit hard. Hit fast. Hit often.

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Saturday, March 20th at 8:04PM EST (link)

I cannot begin to express how much being an American meant to me today because I have been so disturbed with the direction of our Country and downright ANGRY at those who gave this idiot and all of those TRAITOROUS Congresspeople their vote. It should not have been enough that they were “war tired” or “tired” of Republicans they should have been AWAKE to the Communists/Marxists/Socialists in the midst of all of the LYING “bluedogs”.

My diary will of course bring together those thoughts and of the Americans who LOVE THEIR COUNTRY MORE THEN THEMSELVES who I chatted w/on Metro and in the crowds and how KNOWLEDGEABLE they are about our Constitution. That can be the ONLY benefit of the election in 2008, that WE all now know our Constitution better and more in depth then WE ever have!

BTW thanks to those who thanked me, it was truly my DUTY to do so by living in this area :)

I thought 20K was about right

Joe Cor (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:19AM EST (link)

That’s my guess at the crowd.

Something that may have affected not getting a larger crowd all together at the same time was the DC metro. What a metaphor for our future health care! Endless waiting, excruciatingly slow. I got on at the Shady Grove station at about 11:10. Saw lots of people headed to the rally there. Got on a train, waited for half an hour. Then got told the train was cancelled. Got on a second train. When it finally got moving, it crawled along. Finally got to the Central Station about 1:00. I’m not familiar with DC so had to wander a little, and didn’t get to the rally till maybe 20 minutes were left. I suspect as the intial rally ended a lot of people were still in transit.

I stayed till around five and was pretty worn out by then. Very disappointed Obama changed his car rout so that he wouldn’t have to see us. May have been my best opportunity ever to personally express my disapproval of him. I’ll never forget the arrogant smirks from the staffer/congresspeople who came out on the balcony during Obama’s pep talk. I almost cried for all the wonderful Americans there about to be herded into the Ombacare collective. What sprit and patriotism there was yesterday. I hope it is an indication of a better America for tomorrow.
