You know Moe, I have often wondered about these spikes. How is it that O’s numbers slowly fall and then suddenly rise!

How can that be? Is it that people are extremely fickle? I just don’t buy it. Most people, especially these days are on one side of the fence or the other. How easy is it to change ones mind if they don’t trust you?

Why GOP numbers are so low this month? Scandal after scandal, ramming bills, not listening to public opinion and Dem’s numbers go higher? Something is definitely not right here. I think that the false recovery we are experiencing lately is propping up their numbers… tho I don’t think it will last for long.

Where was all the good news for the Dems last month, to explain these numbers? It was a litany of bad and worse for them — yet their numbers go up?

Where was the bad news for Republicans? Scott Brown wins Teddy’s seat in liberal bastion Massachusetts — so the R numbers go down? This doesn’t compute.

If it weren’t Rasmussen, I’d want to ask some pointed questions about changes in the partisan breakdown…

This poll makes me shriek and pull my hair. Are people really this stupid? If so, there is no hope!

I can remember the Bush years[,] when all the polls stated that the American public [voters] were dead set against the war in Iraq and wanted no part of it. NOTHING has gone well for the Dems in the last month – and yet their numbers improve, not by 1s and 2s, but by 7, 9s, and 10?

– Rigged polling? seems unlikely

– MSM coverups? of course, but what’s new?

– People getting used to the “new normal” of total Democrat venality, corruption, and blatant unConstitutionality, and thus reverting to their customary party of choice? That’s my fear. What can we do about it? Don’t really know. Possibly we’ve passed the tipping point of a majority of voters being miseducated and indoctrinated by far-left public schools, in which case there really is no hope. I refuse to believe that, but then there must be some other explanation for this, and I can’t think of one.

the way the questions are worded and the order in which they are presented. also,, after getting the poll results, those results are “adjusted” to fit what the pollster conceives as the political composition of the voting public. Some polls are weighted to the left in that voting groups or blocks that support Democrats are given more weight than groups that tend to support Republicans. In any case, be sure to check out the pollster’s “track record’ for accuracy.

It’s not going to be a linear slide. The trend if you look at the last several iterations of this survey is still a decline for the Dems and should continue to be through November, although there might be some upward bounces along the way.

And if I were a Dem I would not want to be in the position that they are currently in come November.

I agree with the general principle that Bunning was trying to make: why should we borrow more money to pay for unemployment benefits when we have already unspent borrowed money from the so-called stimulus. Unfortunately the MSM and the Democrats were able to spin it as those mean cruel Republicans denying money from the unemployed during tough economic times. Even worse, Bunning caved. When you cave you loose both your point and your political capital. You don’t block a politically risky bill unless you have a good plan, support from your fellow party politicians, and are willing to stick it out to the end.

This was not the only event that contributed to some of the shift (see Achance above) but in my opinion we took a short-term hit because of it.

It’s really hard to see anything with these numbers just looking at this month and last month– the up-and-down variance is just too much. The underlying numbers are probably as good as we can expect, Rasmussen is one of the more solid pollsters out there. Maybe if I have the time to gather the numbers together and install some graphing software, I’ll put up some graphs of the last couple years’ worth of numbers, or as far back as Moe has been posting them.
