My first thought was ‘Death panels,’ too…

…as per the first comment in this Hot Air post about Kent Pankow.  But that’s absurd: we’ve been told by all sorts of people that such things could never, ever, ever happen under a government-run universal health care regime.

Suffering from brain cancer, Kent Pankow was literally forced to go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. for lifesaving surgery — at a cost to family and friends of $106,000 — after the health-care system in Alberta left him hanging in bureaucratic limbo for 16 crucial days, his tumour meanwhile migrating to an unreachable part of the brain, while it dithered over his case file, ultimately deciding he was not surgery worthy.

Now, with the Mayo Clinic having done what the Alberta Cancer Board wouldn’t authorize or even explain, but with the tumour unable to be totally removed, the province will now not fund the expensive drug, Avastin, that the Mayo prescribed to keep him alive and keep the remaining tumour from increasing in size — despite the costs of the drug being totally funded by the province for other forms of cancer.

Kent Pankow, as it turns out, has the right disease but he has it in the wrong place.

And why would it never happen?  Because the Master loves us and would never hurt us… look!  A squirrel!

I am from Canada

GJ Merits (Diary) Wednesday, March 10th at 9:28AM EST (link)

My father moved the entire family to the states when I was six, thank God. He saw what was coming. Within a week of turning 18 I was a U.S. citizen. Most people take for granted how wonderful this country is. I will never forget the number of people crying as we took our oath, nor the choked back tears of an immigrant who spoke to the group before we took our oath. People love this country and want to live and move here.

You want to really put this in perspective? Canada has 30 million people. We have 300 million people. You think rationing is bad there? Wait until ObamaCare hits here. If you have ANYTHING serious, you will be up a creek without a paddle.

Now those of us who read my posts about nullification will know why I am so gung-ho for this approach. Death panels are real and Obama and company are lying out of both sides of their mouth when they deny it. And the “progressives” in this country have no idea what they are cheering for. Brainless twits.

I hear stories like this from my relatives ALL the time. In one family alone the father was almost killed during routine gall-bladder surgery when they nicked an artery. The wife was given the wrong prescription at the pharmacist – a drug that would have killed or seriously injured her, and the sister of the father died during surgery because she had a liver condition that the surgeon would not continue treating during the perioperative period because it was not his specialty. And that’s one family member on my wife’s side – her uncle.

ObamaCare passes and we ARE screwed. I have 25 stents in three major heart arteries at the age of 42. I’ll be on the death list.

The Only Way

aposematic Wednesday, March 10th at 11:24AM EST (link)

I have lived 60+ years on this earth and I only know of one way to cut the costs of anything…stop spending money on it.

The only way to reduce the costs of Government imposed healthcare is to stop spending so much money through restricting services to the elderly and very young…death panels.

The result will be a lowering of the American lifespan resulting in the saving of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid by reducing the number of people requiring services…death panels.

Other than the problem of genocide…spending problem solved!

the world-wide disgust and horror that followed post-war revelations of what the Nazis did to “improve” the “Aryan race” through the Holocaust, but also through various mass experiments on the mentally retarded, handicapped, and very young children. Knowledge of those things threw the science of eugenics and its warped view of humanity into disrepute for two generations. But the concept has never been out of favor with progressives and the left. One can see the underlying purpose in the agendas of pro-choice groups, in the increasing acceptance of ethanasia, assisted suicide, and other end-of-life movements. The same concept of eugenics = population control and “improvement” underlies much of the support for single payer, government controlled “health care”. Many supporters will deny it, many don’t believe it, but what we’re coming to, if this passes, would make Josef Mengele smile.

Health care

teridavisnewman (Diary) Thursday, March 11th at 9:52AM EST (link)

Very few people have an understanding of how insurance companies work. Theoretically there are “uninsured” people in the USA, but in actuality, everyone’s health care is paid for or the hospitals would have to close their doors! The very poor have Medicaid which is the government health insurance and the illegal aliens use it by having an anchor baby who is a US citizen at birth. The baby is then used to qualify for welfare benefits and Medicaid and it is automatically granted to underage US citizens. The illegal aliens along with those who choose not to buy health insurance are covered by what is known as “cost shifting”.

Cost shifting is the process by which hospitals bill the insurance of covered people for the cost of their care AND THE CARE OF THE UNINSURED. Do you really think that two aspirin cost the hospital $30 to provide? Of course not!! The $30 pays for the aspirin and the care of the uninsured. The hospitals shift the cost of the care of the uninsured onto the bills of those of us who DO have insurance—if they didn’t do this, they would have to close their doors since they are legally required to provide care for any sick person or emergency. NO ONE in America is denied health care because of inability to pay because they either have Medicaid, health insurance or the cost of the care is shifted to the insured. It’s been going on forever and worst of all, the illegal aliens know that they cannot be denied care in an EMERGENCY ROOM so they use ERs as their primary physician which is horrendously expensive. Hospitals routinely deny that they are shifting the cost to the insured people, but they are. Just from a business standpoint, they MUST in order to remain open and provide care—and Medicaid is also billed through cost shifting.

To bring down costs, we need to change the incentives that govern spending:
* Right now, $5 out of every $6 of health-care spending is paid for by someone other than the person receiving care — insurance companies, employers, or the government.
* Individuals are insulated from the reality of what their decisions cost.
* This breeds overutilization of low-value health care and runaway spending.

To reduce the growth of costs, individuals must take greater responsibility for their health care, and health insurers and health care providers must face the competitive forces of the market. Three policy changes will go a long way to achieving these objectives:
* Eliminate the tax code’s bias that favors health insurance over out-of-pocket spending.
* Remove state-government barriers to purchasing and providing health services.
* Reform medical malpractice laws.

to one of the best hospitals in the world for life saving brain surgery that very same week, as friends of mine were able to do. What are the chances of this happening with gov’t healthcare? And, even in the good ole USA the surgery was performed at a hospital that treats patients regardless of their ability to pay – insurance or no insurance – St. Jude. So far, so good, by the way (prognosis very good!)!
