The GOP dominated in the morning though

RealQuiet (Diary) Thursday, February 25th at 4:42PM EST (link)

the Democrats had twice as much talking time. Good win by the GOP today. Looked very knowledgeable. All I got from the Democrats were sob stories and generalities. I thought the most memorable comment was a Democrat congressmen saying “What is it going to take for you to vote for OUR bill.” Summed it up quite nicely. Kyl, Ryan, Cantor, and yes, even McCain had some very good moments.

David Gergen, Gloria Borger and the Wolf

RealQuiet (Diary) Thursday, February 25th at 4:45PM EST (link)

at CNN even said that the GOP cleaned up in the morning session. The afternoon session was sort of boring. Nothing really stood out with the exception of Ryan. This is the worse possible thing to happen to the Democrats. The summit went the way of the GOP. GOP didn’t give in on anything, brought up great points, called Dems out on backroom deals, reconciliation, and stuck to starting over from Square One.

Hooray for the pod people!

I noticed it right away- Obama's physical cues could teach a class on interrogation.

archer52 Thursday, February 25th at 4:54PM EST (link)

I did this for a living. Obama’s mannerisms (which I would think he could have learned to control somewhat by now) are dead giveaways for what he was thinking at the time. Mostly he was bored, in denial and defensive.

To his credit he did control the time of the people he feared would hurt him most like a good lawyer does. He got Ryan and Cantor early. He would let them talk just long enough to be able to cut in, ramble for a while and when he gave the floor back to them there was no time left. Classic lawyerisms.

Both Ryan and Cantor were too nice. I would have put on sunglasses and a hat and leaned back like I was napping. When he inquired what I was doing I would say, “Resting until you decide to allow me to talk.”

One time in court I had a defense attorney wandering around verbally in a cross exam. He was here and there and back here again. Finally I asked him if he brought his hat with him. Of course he had to ask “what hat”. I said, “You know, the one with all the lures and flies on it, Your fishing hat. I figure if you are going fishing, you should be dressed properly.” He sat down with nothing more to say.

He's not truly trained in real debate, or real courtroom lawyering

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Thursday, February 25th at 5:31PM EST (link)

I think he’s had it easy in almost every respect possible. And while his name might have been on a couple of lawsuits, I would be surprised if he ever had to present a case in front of a judge and jury. He graduated straight to academia and neighborhood race-based rabble-rousing.

So in this scenario which presumably was modeled on one of these “community organizer” meet-and-discuss gatherings, he found that (a) he was the second-least competent person in the room, and (b) his guys came to strum the voilin strings of victim-hood, and the opposition came with machine guns, howitzers, and laser-guided ordnance to settle an argument.

Which even CNN admits they settled.

Obama did well as a lawyer, but showed he was not really interested in compromise

archer52 Thursday, February 25th at 9:25PM EST (link)

The problem Obama has he is he arrogant and it shows. As a matter of fact, he is about the most arrogant person I’ve seen in quite awhile. His opening head tilt/stare deal with Alexander (who did very well) was simply Mussolini-like.

However, he did manage to do some of the things he set out to do.

1. Manage the time and avoid confrontations that he would lose. He cut off both Cantor and Ryan (his known biggest threats) early into their time and rambled around with his own thoughts until the time was nearly expired then give it back to the Republican for another thirty seconds. It was a typical lawyer type maneuver but only works if the guy on the other end lets him get away with it. Obama used his “I’m the President” power to keep the other guy from complaining.

2. He and the Democrats kept saying “Boy it is amazing how much the Republicans seem to agree with most of this bill…”
I’m surprised it took so long before the Republicans reacted. I think they were a little afraid or put off. I would have openly and quickly set that whole silliness to a halt. But this is part of the overall plan of convincing the public that the rammed through bill was something both they really wanted (but didn’t know it) and the Republicans were the same.

Will it work? Who really knows. “ends justify the means”

Not Presidential at all, not magnanimous, not wise, not interested. Ordinary. Lackluster.

In fact, I believe his will go down in history as the “lackluster Presidency.”

“The press is so powerful in its image-making role that it can make a criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”– Malcolm X, Audubon Ballroom, December 13, 1964

Oh no! Obama's been using Brand X!

Get him some Joker products!

Don’t leave the party, hijack it back!

The only poll that counts is the one at the ballot box.

I don’t want to be Reagan. I want to be a Chance/Soros hybrid.

Obama is actually thinking...

“Rahm is dead. He is toast. He got me into this. What’s that Ryan guy saying about costs? I’ll get him too. I’ll get ‘em all…”

Erick, looks like he's thinking,

Note to self—have it recorded when this guy’s put against the wall.

has anyone ever known anyone who's survived stage 4 brain cancer?

DONTREADONME (Diary) Friday, February 26th at 1:07AM EST (link)

I am greatful that my good friend has insurance, she has rather excellent health insurance and she’s at the fantastic neurosurgical unit at Christiana Hospital in DE. They were able to remove 95% of the 4.5 cm tumor, but the prognosis for my 30 year old friend is at the most 2 years. I have not been told what type of cancer it is i.e. glioblastoma, astrocytoma, meninglioma ony the stage. Man, I’ve read the web and done my research and the stats do not look good, but I am looking for some anecdotal evidence of people beating this. Man, I feel awful, but could you imagine what 0bamacare would mean for my friend. God, I don’t want her to die, her husband is my great friend too. Well, sometimes life gets put into different perspective. Anyway, these last 4 days have been draining. BTW, she excerised a lot and ate very very healthy; goes to show that sometimes enjoy life.

Mike Pence: teh Awesome

Interviews like this are the exact reverse of

how they used to go when it was a Dem Congressman and Bush as President. Pence handled it masterfully. Andrea Mitchell, NBC News, didn’t know how to contradict him, having become so accustomed to agreeing that “the President is wrong, Congress is right.”

Pence ignored the attempts to sidetrack him.
