Congressional Democrats think Americans can’t read…

think, remember, and/or pay attention:

As President Obama’s approval ratings sag and the mood of voters sours, some Democratic congressional candidates are distancing themselves from the White House, with the back-channel blessing of party officials.

The candidates are positioning themselves as independent voices no less frustrated with the Obama administration than people back home.

Let’s take a look at these ‘independents’ that the article mentions specifically: Rep. Dennis Cardoza & Rep. Jim Costa of California, and Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas. Plus, of course, Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland (and DCCC chair, for his sins); after all, he’s arguing for distancing, right? So let’s see how they actually distance themselves. Never mind what they say; how do they vote?

Legislator Stimulus Cap/Trade HC Bill
Dennis Cardoza Yes Yes Yes
Jim Costa Yes No Yes
Blanche Lincoln Yes No Vote Yet Yes
Chris Van Hollen Yes Yes Yes

Well.

It seems that Cardoza’s opinion that the Obama administration has ‘failed miserably’ in job creation doesn’t seem to have translated into any sort of opposition to either the job-killing bill that was cap-and-trade, or the health care rationing sideshow. Jim Costa’s declaration that the President isn’t ‘listening carefully’ to his constituents seems odd, seeing as he doesn’t seem to care that 69% of Californians don’t like the way his party handled the health care rationing bill debacle. Blanche Lincoln’s campaign claim that “Lincoln challenges Obama on liberal ‘extremes.’ ” is backed by… nothing. And Chris Van Hollen’s slightly nervous bravado about the need to sometimes oppose the President isn’t even a case of ‘Do as I say, not as I do:’ it’s ‘Say as I say, while you do as I do.’

This is entirely unsolicited advice, but I’ll give it anyway.  Independent voters aren’t the netroots: they will not respond well to the mushroom treatment. And there really is a limit to how long a party can get away with saying one thing, and doing another.  In fact, we actually passed that limit last spring…

The ever more educated and enlightened electorate ain’t gonna let you get away with the old three card monte trick anymore.

Same old Tricks

So glad you displayed their voting record. They continue to believe we are so stupid, another sleight of hand

please, go away

There are certain moments in political history when you remember exactly where you were.

NeoKong (Diary) Sunday, February 14th at 7:50PM EST (link)

I remember when Clinton took office. They were having all those gala balls and really rubbing it in so it was so sweet when the republicans took back both houses just a few years later. I remember Bernard Shaw and Judy Woodruff acting as if the the end of the world was near. I swear they wore black arm bands for months.
I remember exactly where I was when I heard that the SCOTUS ruled in favor of George Bush down in Florida and the bogus recount stopped.
I savored every delicious moment watching the media almost cry when Al Gore gave his concession speech. I screamed at the T.V “In your face boy!!! “
I remember John Edwards coming out to the rain soaked despondent Kerry supporters at 1:AM at Faneuil Hall telling them to “Keep hope alive” while Kerry was too much of a wussy to do it himself.
I groaned when Obama won because I already knew what a shameless double talking bait and switch con man he would be.
We all did.
We were right.
The Scott Brown thing…? That wasn’t really a moment as much as it was a week long joy fest that still makes me feel good.
But I have to say that the next big political jump for joy moment in my life will be when that dried up hag Nancy Pelosi has to hand back the gavel in front of the new Republican majority in the House while they erupt in giddy applause and then she has to go back and sit with the people who will blame her and despise her knowing that her power is gone and if she wants to fly home she had better call Delta.
I would spend $257.00 to to be there in person. That gavel will probably be covered in claw marks from the way she clung to that thing.
I hope the new speaker puts it in a glass trophy case with a little brass plate in front that says ” In this case lies the gavel that almost put America on a path to socialist ruin but thankfully was rescued by a vigilant American people. God Bless America”

That will be a good day.

Odd strategy

When you consider that Obama is still better-liked than Democrats in Congress. One would think it would be the other way around.

Many Americans Can Read, But Too Often They Do Not

Ausonius (Diary) Sunday, February 14th at 8:25PM EST (link)

Otherwise, how did BIG BRObama get elected? If most voters had read his books, full of anger against America on various levels, he would not have been elected.

American Thinker ran an article on this issue of a Democrat betting that people were not paying attention.

In the 1970′s a senator named Frank Church tried to trick Idaho into thinking he was pro-abortion and pro-life at the same time: with the help of the Idaho media, who refused to notice the contradiction, he did fool all of the people some of the time…but it did not last.

Disturbing or desparate?

That they even think such a strategy would work to save them. These issues are not like free trade agreements. There is nothing more personal than health care and employment.

I don't even have to check the voting record

varia (Diary) Sunday, February 14th at 9:11PM EST (link)

I already know for a FACT that my representative Linda Sanchez (D-CA 39) is in complete lockstep with Pelosi and gang…and my district is the LEAST Democratic of all the L..A. Districts…she is just WAY too liberal for us.

and she seems oddly uncomfortable in this clip…unless Colbert told her to be so for whatever reason.

down in southern Arkansas get this info……Mrs. Lincon will be sent down in flames so fast it would be funny!!

The world has changed and they don't have a clue. Remember? Hell yeah.

spainishirish (Diary) Sunday, February 14th at 11:14PM EST (link)

The Cap and Trade vote in the House had such potential for massive economic destruction that we can’t let that ever be forgotten. Pelosi’s idiots lined up like sheep when even a Democratic Senate wouldn’t jump over the cliff.

top tier

proudgop (Diary) Monday, February 15th at 12:24AM EST (link)

are there any top tier Republicans yet running against Cardoza and Costa?

Not Yet...

IJB Monday, February 15th at 12:46AM EST (link)

It looks like the people so far in those races are 2nd or 3rd tier people – Water District Board members, Tea Party activists, and such. But the filling deadline isn’t until mid-March, so there’s still another month for more prominent candidates to run.

I do notice that David Harmer, who ran in the CA-10 special, is now listed as one of the candidates in CA-11 though.

And ex-Rep. Richard Pombo has moved from CA-11 to the open CA-19, though I’d much rather see Jeff Denham or one of the other GOP candidates win that one.

Dems don't just think people can't read

RedBeard Monday, February 15th at 8:58AM EST (link)

They know for a fact that enough people can’t read, or won’t read, to allow them to be re-elected time after time.

They know for a fact that enough people couldn’t or wouldn’t read to allow Obama to win the election. With an educated electorate, he wouldn’t have gotten more than 35% of the vote.

Voter ignorance and stupidity are the things Democrats give thanks for every day of their political lives. To their careers, it’s like oxygen or water or bread is to a human being. That’s not saying that Dems are not human, although with the state of that party today, one sometimes wonders. Fast zombies, or slow zombies?

Standard-bearer for grouchy curmudgeonry since, oh, 1975 or so.
