The usual ‘more time with his family‘ bit, and nothing about a 17 point deficit in the polls. Then again, that’s not too surprising – although it’d be great if just once one of these guys said “I’m not going to throw away ten months of my life on an election that I’m just going to lose anyway?” Admittedly, if Snyder had the nerve to do that he might not have fled the upcoming race.
Moving along, Charlie Cook had this at Democratic Toss-Up, and emphasis on ‘had.’ If I had to guess, I’d expect at least ‘Leans Republican’ by the next update. The three Republicans that I know of so far for this race are Tim Griffin, Scott Wallace, and David Meeks. Check them out.

DerKrieger (Diary) Friday, January 15th at 8:08PM EST (link)He won’t even pretend to want to put up a fight. He ran unopposed in 2008 and now with the prospect of a little competition he packs up his toys and goes home.
I hated him when I lived in Little Rock and I still have nothing but contempt for him. If we’re lucky he’ll go back to Oregon where he belongs. Friggin Leftist JA.

Au Contraire, On Charlie Cook's Rating...
IJB Friday, January 15th at 8:24PM EST (link)The Dem spin on this seat is identical to the spin on Chris Dodd’s CT Senate seat – it’s basically, “Now that the incumbent has moved along, we have [x number] of ‘truly great’ local Dem officeholders who are much more likely to hold this seat!1!”
IOW, once one of those declares for this seat, expect Cook and his ilk to go back to rating this seat as “Leans Dem” based on the “popularity” of some other local Dem official.
That said, I am fully in Charles Krauthammer’s camp on this – ignore the near term polls on things like the CT Senate seat and AR-02: it strains credulity that some mythical “other Dem” is going to hold seats like this better than an incumbent, esp. in the current environment.
So, forget what pundits like Cook say – Moe is right: this seat will now truly be “Leans GOP”…
This was always the GOP's to win
DerKrieger (Diary) Friday, January 15th at 8:29PM EST (link)CT is Blue to the core so a credible substitute for Dodd can win. Snyder has represented a GOP district for years and it was only matter of time before he went down. No Dem will win AR-02.

As a Former(?) Local, You'd Know Better Than I Would
IJB Friday, January 15th at 8:34PM EST (link)I know Dems are talking about running the current Dem. Lt. Gov. for this House seat, which means he probably has decent name ID.
But, from what I can gather, he was earlier going to challenge Lincoln this year in the Senate Primary FROM HER *LEFT*! which strikes me as someone unlikely to beat Griffin (et al.) in a R+5 district.
Now hopefully we can start working on getting AR-01 and AR-04 as well…
Great News

Environment in Arkansas this cycle...
Mayhem (Diary) Friday, January 15th at 9:58PM EST (link)What are the odds of taking the other 2 Democrat seats in Arkansas this year? The Cook PVI for all 4 of the AR seats is positive for Republicans, yet the Democrats hold a 3-1 advantage. This is the year to sweep Arkansas (House and Senate seats), if there ever was one.
James Madison, Jim DeMint, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan… You get the picture.
My oh My how he's changed his tune

That was pretty close to what I thought as well. But then I just laughed
That reminds me, Shadegg in AZ-3 is retiring
Mark D Friday, January 15th at 11:04PM EST (link)I didn’t see much about it outside of AZ news sources today. His district is pretty solidly Republican. So, this shouldn’t affect the GOP too much.
But then again, Gabby Giffords represents AZ-8, and that’s a pretty Republican district too, although not nearly as heavy as Shadegg’s.
You know you’ve reached rock bottom when you’re told you have character flaws by a man who hanged his predecessor in a military coup.
