Let me just push back on the Left’s attempt to co-opt…

…the anti-health care rationing movement, as per Mickey Kaus (who is not the one trying to do it).  Three things to remember:

  1. The Online Left is angry about this bill because the final version is likely to have no public option, Stupak-like language banning federal funding of abortion, and no clear path to single-payer health care.  Give them some path to two out of three and they’ll jump back on the bandwagon.  Give them one and they’ll do the same, only complaining.  Give them none and they’ll still support the Democrats in 2010.  And the Democrats know this, which is why they’re ignoring the Online Left.
  2. The Tea Party movement – and the GOP, thank you very much – is angry about this bill because it’s an intolerable imposition on the American people’s fundamental right to live their own lives without undue government interference.  Which is why only one Republican federal legislator has come out in support of the Democrats’ health care rationing scheme.
  3. The Online Left wants to see the Tea Party movement – and the GOP, thank you very much – collectively die in a fire.  They’ve been screeching about those evil, evil corporations for the last year, and fuming impotently because they can’t get any traction on it while a bunch of center-right activists put together an opposition movement that dwarfed theirs.  In other words: they very, very, very badly want to try to co-opt what we (generic) built to serve their own ends.

To put it more simply: these people are not our friends, they are not trustworthy – or particularly useful – allies, and they don’t really want what we want.  There’s no point to working with them.

PS: “But we need to stop this bill!”  Yes, we do.  We stop it by taking back Congress.

Working with them will only make a bad thing worse. You cannot work with these people half-way.

and one more point – I question how bad the left really wants the bill to die. We all know full well that this is very likely to lead to exactly the system they want, only it will happen gradually instead of right now. If you’re a leftist, here are two scenarios:
1. Defeat the bill completely, politically defeating Obama (since his entire presidency is riding on this), possibly losing congress in 2010 and the WH in 2012, thereby starting from square 1. or,
2. Pass this bill as is, destroy what remains of the private insurance industry over a few years, then step in and take it over completely. Obviously, there is still the risk of losing congress but much easier to counter when the legislation is in place.

Wow, thats a tough decision. Leftists lie about everything to get what they want and this is no different.

Obama Admin Lets Go 12 Gitmo Detainees To Their Home

The Obama administration has transferred 12 Guantanamo Bay detainees to their home countries in Yemen, Afghanistan and the Somaliland region, despite concerns that many former prisoners are returning to terrorism. What a great Christmas gift to the terrorist who want to get back in the field to Kill our Brave Men and Women. I can’t wait for 2010 and 2012. Check out this video and pass it on.

We are where we are because the GOP elitists have worked with these traitors from the start.

The party needs to take its McCainiac blindfold off and stop pretending these people are Americans. They are traitors to this country. A traitor will betray anyone and can never be considered a comrade-in-arms on ANY issue.

Coming from a state where Democrats have attempted to infiltrate and destroy every conservative movement, I can testify to their evil and duplicity.

Read “The Coming Insurrection” and “Prairie Fire.”
That will tell you what a Democrat is.
And if I hear any more garbage about how “there are good Democrats, too, you know,” after the whole nation has seen what they are and how they do things, fists will fly.

Moe,

Dan Perrin (Diary) Monday, December 21st at 11:58AM EST (link)

you are absolutely right that the entire opposition that has stopped, slowed, vexed, annoyed, and generally frustrated the ObamaCare timetable so far has been the Tea Partiers and the GOP.

The frustration you feel at the left getting so much play in the media lately, I completely understand.

Now, the left really does not have to do much, produce ten votes against in the House, that’s it, the existing NO votes and the Stupak group will do the rest.

I hope they will put some NO votes on the board.

If they don’t you are right — they may have readership, but they cannot execute, and they are setting a precedent that they can be rolled at will by their pals, the Dems.

Of course they can be rolled, and won't do anything

SteveM (Diary) Monday, December 21st at 12:10PM EST (link)

Look at Iraq and Afghanistan. The nutroots has already demonstrated the ability to flip over on their core “principles”. Pretty easy to do when you don’t have any to begin with.

The best bet to kill this would be Stupak’s coalition of pro-life Blue Dogs. Once the abortion restrictions are taken out in committee (and don’t kid yourself, they will be. And single payer will be put back in), the only hope is Stupak keeping his word.

I am really

starting to become a cynic. Why is it that I keep seeing “in blue-dogs we trust” when the last blue dog sold his soul (and vote) for a couple of cheap biscuits!

What is the definition of insanity again?

Not to be snarky, I pray you know more about Stupak than I do, it’s just I am physically tired of this entire thing!

Moe,

I’ll take Reagan’s admonition, “Trust but verify”.

Sure all the groups you name are not to be trusted, sure they are the scum of the earth, sure they are no-goodnicks…but….whoops…never mind (hitting myself with a fish or something)…What was I thinking!

One small problem with your last comment,
“PS: “But we need to stop this bill!” Yes, we do. We stop it by taking back Congress.” That’s one year off at best, and Obamacare will be the law of the land…maybe….by then. I’m not sure what a new R majority congress would be able to do by that point, please explain what they could do.

They do this

The stealth way to kill bills is via the budgetary process. If something doesn’t get funded, it dies. We take back the House next year and all of this can go away.

Still on the books

SteveLA (Diary) Monday, December 21st at 12:19PM EST (link)

SteveM

I’m afraid that underfunding ObamaCare might work short term, but long term the junk is on the books and there are all sorts of games that could be played.

It’s better to kill ObamaCare now before it becomes law. I’m not sure how to do that, but others have suggested some very good foot dragging ideas.

Defunding any of the enforcement mechanisms effectively kills the program – it’s like putting it in suspended animation.

There’s no question that that is only a short-term solution – basically doing it is effectively nothing more than a ‘holding action’.

But it needs to be done because, no matter what, the GOP will not regain effective control over the Senate after 2010, even though they might regain effective control of the House.

But you do the ‘holding action’ until 2012 because, if all goes well, the GOP regains effective control of the Senate, and the Presidency, then, and then can repeal all portions of the program outright.

Look, if you’ve got a better way to kill this bill after the Dems pass it into law, I’m sure we’d all love to hear it…

Spot on

SteveM (Diary) Monday, December 21st at 12:07PM EST (link)

It’s not like the Nutroots is going to suddenly buck Obama on anything he wants. They do what they’re told, plain and simple. And when Obama tells them this is the best health care bill out there, they’ll fall into line.

I don’t think that the objection to conference is going to work. Even now, Snowe and Collins are likely in discussions with Dingy Harry to get what NE got. In other words, the price for them not causing trouble will be pork for Maine, which Reid will gladly oblige.

And finally, once this thing gets into committee, there will be no Stupak Amendments and there will be a public option.

is this in specific ref to Dan's plan?

denniswayne Monday, December 21st at 1:11PM EST (link)

I’m a bit confused by this post. Not that the meaning is not absolutely clear: progressives are dirt and not to be worked with in any way at any time, no matter what. The summary is a definitive “There’s no point in working with them.”

So is the “push back” and/or the conclusion statement, an indirect ref to Dan’s proposal (“Extraordinary Measures . . . “)? That is, Moe you’re recommending that Dan’s plan not be supported, correct? If so, that should be stated plainly.

Dan, your thoughts?

Actually, what I'm doing is taking a position.

Moe Lane (Diary) Monday, December 21st at 3:35PM EST (link)

If other people want to take another position, that is their privilege.

I understand that . . .

denniswayne Monday, December 21st at 4:06PM EST (link)

and respect your privilege to do so. I wasn’t sure whether you had an intention specifically in regard to Dan’s proposal. Now I can see that you did. Thanks for the clarification.

Netroots lol

whoframedrudy (Diary) Tuesday, December 22nd at 5:05AM EST (link)

The best way to understand the netroots is to that, for them, this is all just a big on-line game.

A month ago, the game was “Let’s Stop The Troop Increase!” Before that it was “We Want A Public Option!” Before that, “We Want Single Payor!” Or “Let’s Destroy Sarah Palin!” They don’t really care about Afghanistan, health care or the Constitution — they just need something to game about.

You can’t work with them, certainly not trust them, but maybe you can manipulate them. But forget about their ‘principles’ — hahahaha — remember for them it’s just something to do, something to get worked up about.

You’re gonna need more than one lesson. And you’re gonna get more than one lesson.
