One spin Democrats will use to distract from the shellacking they took in Virginia is that the party holding the White House has always lost the next VA governor race since 1977. While true, it fails to put the that pattern into context. It’s a desperate effort to say, “Just a flesh wound, nothing to see here.”

History shows us that these results do matter. They are not just local issues at play. The results of a Virginia Gov race do portend a major change at the Federal level. Using the same 1977 date, there have been 6 major Federal changes that followed the next 8 following Virginia Gov elections. 6 of 8. That’s 75%. Here’s the history:

1977. John Dalton (R) wins Gov race. Carter is wiped out by Reagan in 1980.

1981. Not predictive. Charles Robb (D) defeated Marshall Coleman (R). This does not predict anything as Reagan wins reelection in 1984, Dems keep house, and R’s keep Senate.

1985. Gerald Baliles (D) defeats Wyette Durrett (R). 1 year later Dems take control on US Senate.

1989. Doug Wilder (D) beats Marshall Coleman (R). 3 years later, George HW Bush loses to Clinton.

1993 George Allen (R) defeats Mary Sue Terry (D). 1 year later in 1994 Dems lose both House and Senate.

1997 Jim Gilmore (R) defeats Don Beyer (D). Dems fail to hold Presidency as Bush defeats Gore.

2001. Not predictive. Mark Warner (D) defeats Mark Early (R) yet Republicans maintain control of Congress for the entirety of Warner’s term and GW Bush won re-election.

2005. Tim Kaine (D) defeats Jerry Kilgore (R). A year later, Dems take the House, Senate

… for poor reason. But NYC is gone. After the economic collapse, so much of the taxpayer base left. The thing about Bloomberg, was that he actually thought about running for POTUS. He’s what you might call “quiet money”. I wouldnt doubt if his supporters traded favors to Corzine’s camp for reciprocation. He always injects himsefl to our deteiment. He should just stay in NYC and keep his mouth shut. But he’s an active advocate for a national liberal GOP.

But Bloomberg, who I actually worked for, tried to push his brand of politics in the country at large, an into Conn, and NJ.

I’m a New Englander, I’m not down with the let “let it burn” philosophy. Its my home. I’m a godd judge of real RINOS. Bloomberg can burn.
