“Too big to fail.”

There’s not much I can add to this excellent article on why we’re funding too many analysts and not enough activists, except this: those of us who have stepped up to do online or grassroots activism for no pay and with no infrastructure can make up for a quite a bit by substituting enthusiasm for resources. Which is great… until enthusiasm wanes, or the outside world interferes, or someone can’t afford to spend the money or time any longer on what may not actually be a hobby, but has to be treated as one. And then that particular slot goes unfilled for a while; best hope that the volunteer wasn’t doing anything too important, right?

And I say that as one of the lucky ones: I don’t actually have to worry about site maintenance on either RedState.com or MoeLane.com (and you should hit Neil’s tip jar if you like the latter; he’s hosting that site for me). Imagine if more of us didn’t have to worry about that…

Absolutely right Moe. It was an excellent article.

And I’m glad to do what I can to support the activists like you and Neil, vs the analysts. Although you guys seem pretty analytical to me.
So RedState is lucky in both respects.

The piece is quite good...

…and as an independent conservative blogger I identify with it completely. But as I commented at TNR, this Beltway-intellectual-conservatives-vs-populists-in-flyover-territory business is of a piece with our frustrations with atrocities like the NRSC backing Charlie Crist and the NRCC taking up for Dede Scozzafava while excellent candidates like Mario Rubio and Doug Hoffman have to slog through the mud with little or no support.

It’s a misallocation of resources and it flies in the face of the stated philosophy of the GOP and the conservative movement. This cannot long continue without a correction.

So does this mean we don't have to read "A Message for Garcia?"

JUST kidding! I already read it. And that smiley face with the Hitler mustache (from Jonah’s “Liberal Facism “) is starring up at me from under the coffee table!

Yes, this was a great article and thoughfully written.

I can't help but to think of Martin Luther King

Not only did he provide the moral and intellectual justification for the civil rights movement through his speeches, he was willing to march and get fire-hosed and bitten by dogs to further the cause. Intellectuals on the right would no more march than they would decline a cocktail invitation to the home of any garden variety leftist who throws a good party.

I have to give the left this – action / marching gives you the credibility to speak, whereas on the right, writing and speaking come first, with the marches coming….errr…never.

Except we are finally marching

Hooah_Mac (Diary) Thursday, October 8th at 11:10PM EST (link)

(And I marched in support of our troops in 1991)

It is an exciting and terrifying time to be a true conservative. So much is ready to tip in our favor, but we need to ALL grab on and pull in the same direction. I see it happening, but I never underestimate the ability of the leaders of a certain political party to mess up at exactly the wrong time. Put me in the cautious optimism category right now.

-Priorities-
1. Mission 2. Soldiers 3. Everything Else

You are correct

There was a time when NONE of us marched. We were too busy tending to our lives. Now we know that in order to properly tend to our lives, we have to march.

The problem is that the intellects on our side regard activism as unseemly and coarse and regretful and beneath them. That has to change in order for us to bring the real change that this country needs.

And then some.

I particularly liked the ‘nobody ever stormed a beach with a factory’ part.

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?
