I also think he is using the same logic as those who want illegal immigrants to be covered by the health insurance bill. On one hand we are told they are needed because they are younger and healthier, so will pay into the fund, but not use the fund.

They also tell us we are going bankrupt with the epidemic of illegal immigrants using emergency rooms.

I have a better idea: if they want their state-run health let’s give the NE to Canada.

The issue here that’s being “filibustered” is health care reform, which if there were unanimity on the Dem side would be law already.

The flip side of your argument is the Dems, while in the minority, blocking judicial appointments on strictly ideological grounds. Let me guess; those were impassioned patriots, right?

First you gain some success and recognition by the intelligentsia and the “important” people in LA, New York, and perhaps Washington. Then you adopt their arrogance and think you’re somehow superior to the “ordinary people” from which you arose (i.e Lake Wobegon). Then you start adopting their worldview that the American public is ignorant and bigoted and that only the enlightened class can save them. (Though in Keillor’s case, I think he may have adopted the European worldliness first before he went with the American liberal elite.)

Before long, as the people continue to go their “ignorant” way and interfere with your efforts to deliver them, you then decide that they are the problem and they need to disappear in order for your utopia to happen. Which is where Keillor appears to be momentarily.

And soon this effort to make opponents “disappear” turns murderous, with reeducation camps and the whole Stalinist endless cycle of purges and constant new sets of counterevolutioniariesand become utter monstrosity.

While the enlightened intelligentsia first applaud before they quickly get consumed by the evil they have prepared the way for.
