(H/T: AoSHQ) Not to mention Brazil’s public and increasingly outrageous assistance to Zelaya. So it’s going to have to stop:
Honduras is accusing Brazil’s government of instigating an insurrection within its borders, and gave the Brazilian Embassy 10 days to decide the status of ousted Honduran President Jose Manuel Zelaya, who has taken refuge there.
[snip]
The statement said Honduras would be forced to take measures against Brazil if Brazil did not define its position on Zelaya. It did not specify what those measures would be.
Well, according to Zelaya himself it’ll mean more hallucinogenic Jewish gas – no, really: that’s what he thinks – although it’d more likely that the Hondurans will just PNGing the entire Brazilian embassy and refusing to credential more until Zelaya is either in a Honduran jail, or is both de jure and de facto out of Honduran territory. Given the general lack of a popular uprising to ‘rescue’ the ousted former president from his durance vile, that would be a reasonably face-saving way to end the confrontation.
Mind you, the way that this administration seems determined to play Ugly American, we might not be so lucky.

Why has there been no popular uprising?
kowalski (Diary) Sunday, September 27th at 3:32PM EST (link)If you believed Zelaya and Chavez, the popular uprising upon his return should have been massive and indisputable, an upwelling of goodwill that should have swept him back to power. Instead he’s texting his buddies in Brazil to send a few thugs over to help. He’s sitting in the Brazilian embassy talking on a cellphone, but the people of Honduras aren’t taking his calls.
Now, we know that this time around it can’t be because our President is blocking the calls through the CIA — in fact he’s probably helping to put them through directly — so what explains the lack of popular uprising? Could it be that the people of Honduras really wanted to kick Zelaya out to begin with and are not thrilled about his return?
Doesn’t Brazil have enough trouble already? Why are they willing to help this loser by harboring him?

No uprising because they remember what it was like before.

Honduras may be small and poor, but freedom is one big priceless jewel in their crown. They remember what it was like before. Something we don’t.

We have no right to interfere and this is a shameful moment in our history thanks to HRC and Obama. See, shouldn’t let lefties be in charge.
Always a bad idea.
Any connection: We give Brazil some money

No one cares what illegal coup regime has to say
ryanvaquero Tuesday, September 29th at 7:49PM EST (link)No one in the world cares what the illegal, illegitimate, anti-democratic coup regime of Roberto Micheletti has to say. Brazil has already responded by saying that they won’t accept any ultimatums from an illegitimate group of thugs who have hijacked Honduran democracy.
As for the popular uprising, it IS happening. It has been happening every single day for 3 months now, an amazing accomplishment in a country where most people live in abject poverty. The coup regime is so afraid of the popular uprising that they instated a 24-hour curfew, they’ve shot and killed two peaceful protesters, they’ve arrested hundreds more and they’ve been told by the United Nations to respect the Brazilian Embassy — or else.
As for President Zelaya’s claims, the cherry-picking of facts here is what makes Zelaya’s claims sound crazy. What Zelaya DID say is that the weapons are being supplied by Yehuda Leitner — and if you know anything about Honduran politics, you know who this person is. He’s a known narcotrafficker and arms dealer who was involved in the Iran-contra scandal and operates out of Tegucigalpa. Considering that Leitner has a relationship with Billy Joya, who Micheletti proudly added to his group of usurpers, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that Leitner’s name has come up. Of course, in an attempt to smear Zelaya, the right-wing press just refers to Leitner as “the Jew” but that’s on them.
You can CLAIM to be in favor of democracy all you want but if you are on the side of the illegal, thuggish coup regime and their 100 – 200 supporters in the ENTIRE WORLD, it might be time to ask yourself why the whole world is wrong and you are the only right one.
