First GOP primary debate for SC-GOV scheduled 09/22.

This is of note for two reasons:

Republicans in Laurens and Newberry counties will host the state’s first gubernatorial debate for the 2010 GOP nomination. The debate will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Newberry Opera House.

Expected to attend are all the announced and likely Republican candidates to replace term-limited Gov. Mark Sanford. They are 3rd Congressional District Rep. Gresham Barrett, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, state Sen. Larry Grooms of Bonneau, state Rep. Nikki Haley of Columbia and S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster.

First, obviously, it’s of interest because it’ll include Rep. Nikki Haley, who was of course one of our best-received candidates at the RedState Gathering. Check out the video at the link – or check out the one below:

…and if you like that, here’s Nikki Haley’s donation page.

But the second reason why this is of interest is that the Newberry GOP is soliciting video questions for the debate.  While this is admittedly been known to produce somewhat… unusual questions in the past, it does say something about how improvements in video technology has been quietly changing the political landscape.  I mean, consider: how many breaking stories these days rely on somebody being in the right spot at the right time with a camcorder?

Another good one in our stable for 2010

From what I’m seeing, we have some good, strong conservatives running for office in 2010, whether it be for the House, the Senate, or governor’s offices.

Add Nikki Haley to the list that already includes Chuck DeVore, Michael Williams, Marco Rubio, Ryan Frazier, and Pat Toomey. Let’s hope this list continues to grow!

Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, lest we forget, hypocrite.....

Jeff Gordon, er, Andre Bauer need not apply. I say Jeff Gordon for two reasons… One, because he looks -kinda- like him and, two, he has been caught speeding several times since he has become Lt Gov.

Every time I see him on TV denouncing Sanford for ethics violations, it makes me want to scream at the TV. He is such a hypocrite. He has been videotaped trying to get out of a speeding – reckless, I may add – violation by using his ‘Lt Gov’ credentials. Not once, twice.

Having met Nikki

Loren Heal (Diary) Wednesday, September 16th at 10:16AM EST (link)

gives me the authority to say that she is marvelous. She’s a class act, smooth but not weaselly. I asked her direct questions about race, immigration, and religion, and her answers were clearly derived from personal conviction and experience rather than from campaign manager formulation. She’s real, in other words.

While I don’t know her stance on every issue, I’m pretty sure that for the issues facing South Carolina, you couldn’t find a better person for the job.
